Seriously. She's not that old. Other entertainers her age are still going strong - Cher, Bette Midler, Diana Ross. Ever since she left NY for Hollywood she has only been seen in a wheelchair. What is it? Dementia? Cancer? Parkinsons? It seems like the end it near.
WEHT to Liza Minnelli?

She’s been “ailing” for at least twenty years. But it’s never been said why. Maybe even longer but I was surprised when she did some very physical comedy on “Arrested Development.” I had thought she wasn’t well even the.

Someone must have heard something from all those WEHO gays who push her wheelchair when she ventures out.

She's smoking six packs a day somewhere.

The gays should hide her cigarettes.

Liza is a national treasure, but unfortunately she has some mobility issues.
So grateful for all the entertainment and joy she provided throughout the years. Liza was brilliant. Nobody was better on stage.

Too many deugs in the ‘70s — Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty are ga-ga at the go-go too.

The Dance! Aged her. Gwen was a wreck, too

And drugs.

Tell me about it. I was molested, and I'm still doing dinner theater.

She's fine. Sends her love.

That's right R8, though Gwen was somehow able to get through it better than most and walked without assistance to pretty much the end. Many, many Fosse dancers have had hip and knee replacements and have mobility issues. People sometimes forget that there was a time when Liza was a Fosse muse. She danced for him a lot: Cabaret, Liza with a Z, Chicago. Almost right up there with Gwen. Her dancing was as much a part of her work as her singing, for a long time, longer than her mother who didn't out-and-out dance all that much after she left MGM beyond the few steps in A Star is Born. Add that to Liza's apparently severe scoliosis (Charles Busch commented on it in a Liza 75 piece for Tim Teeman) and her body has seen a lot of pain. One would imagine now she has the choice to take pain meds and be slightly blurry and wobbly, or not take them and fully feel excruciating pain.
And also re: Liza, as Sally Bowles sang, "That's what comes from too much pills and liquor."
In the video, Liza talks about her alcoholism and prescription drug use (Valium especially), but as mentioned in the comments, her cocaine use which she doesn't really talk about, is pretty much an open secret.
And one will always wonder how she found that one mosquito in Florida carrying viral encephalitis...she never got back 100% after that. Was it a bad overdose?
Her last performance in a book musical (Victor/Victoria) is now nearly 25 years ago. It's partly on YouTube and it's rough, though she makes it through the choreography ok. She got better for Minnelli on Minnelli, Liza's Back at the Beacon, and the Palace show, though her singing had a warped-record feel to it in those shows. She won't be doing concerts again. I doubt she'll even do "An Evening With" type clips and chat show.
Does anyone know where her very last full concert was? From working with a full orchestra at Carnegie Hall and Radio City, she'd lowered some keys and would work with a casino-sized band, and then finally a very small group of 5 or 6.
She'll never do a memoir because she won't fully disclose the muck that people want to read. She is slowly and methodically disposing of her stuff while she's alive, and at least that way she has some say. The NYC apartment is gone, the auction of her personal effects which didn't net anywhere near the money the Debbie Reynolds auction did, the selling of the Warhols, which were valued at $40M for all 22 of them. Just one, of her mom, sold for $7M.
She paid her mother's debts after she died, and it's not too much of a jump to assume she's also provided for Lorna and Joe to some degree.
You never hear her say a truly bad word about anyone.

She could not go on dancing.

She's being held captive by Michael Feinstein.

Can’t Joyce DeWitt be groomed to take Liza’s place at appearances, when Liza’s feeling down?
I’m sure many of us would be fine with that.

She's 78 years old. This bitch hasn't done anything since 1972, except those Studio 54 days -- which closed 44 years ago. And for nearly all of those 44 years she's been said to be in frail health. What do you expect? She's been coasting on fumes and walkers and wheelchairs for half a century.

She's busy trying to turn off a lamp.
