NYT - Glen Powell

God he gets exhausting quickly when he boasts about how great he is at playing the Hollywood game. Also, he absolutely took Ozempic.

by Anonymousreply 90June 15, 2024 4:34 AM

Exhausting doesn't even begin to cover it.

[quote]Is Absolutely Willing to Play the Hollywood Game

So, he's announcing he's willing to suck cock for roles? Seems like that should have been happening a lot sooner.

by Anonymousreply 1June 10, 2024 10:52 PM

Cliffs Notes, please.

by Anonymousreply 2June 10, 2024 10:53 PM

He thinks he's the Queen of Hollywood. I don't find him attractive at all, with his beady eyes and non-existent lips.

by Anonymousreply 3June 10, 2024 10:58 PM

Never, ever trust lipless peeps.

[QUOTE] and non-existent ass.

And non-existent sex appeal.

by Anonymousreply 6June 10, 2024 11:23 PM

I have two words which perfectly describe Glen Powell at this stage of his career:

Armie Hammer.

You have a handsome white guy, stupid name, limited range but can be perfectly charming on screen. But he cannot bottle up the YOU MUST LOVE ME monster which threatens to consume everything around him. (In Armie's case, this figurative monster become a literal one.)

"In 1996, Lauren and Leslie Powell struggled to sell Girl Scout cookies in Austin, Texas, amid tough competition. Their 8-year-old brother, Glen, devised a clever marketing strategy, offering a “free gift with every purchase.” The gift was Glen himself, who would entertain customers with Elvis songs, helping the girls meet their quota." - chatgpt summary begins and ended there. I didn't want to read anymore.

It is not about wanting to play a favorite hero or making art or entertaining people anymore. It is about OBEDIANCE.

I remember this because I commented about it on here - when the Top Gun Maverick reviews came out - Powell posted a very odd photo on Instagram. It was him, shirtless, staring straight into the camera like it owed him money. Now, Powell was not the star or second billed. He did not earn those reviews because he wasn't in the movie that much. But he demanded your attention. Not asks, demands.

Underneath the permanent five o clock shadow, the dimples, the chest hair and six pack stomach...

...is Helen Lawson.

I like him. He seems refreshingly male without being obnoxious. His live scenes with women are believable. He’s funny and easy on the eyes.

by Anonymousreply 11June 11, 2024 12:29 AM

He’s fucking ugly.

by Anonymousreply 12June 11, 2024 12:29 AM

I first noticed him on Scream Queens as Emma Robert’s boyfriend and had a big crush on him - total douchebro character but so damn hot. Nick Jonas played his best friend who had a crush on him. I wonder if they hooked up in real life?

by Anonymousreply 13June 11, 2024 12:31 AM

I would hate fuck him. Hard.

by Anonymousreply 14June 11, 2024 12:37 AM

He’s incredibly handsome- he’s ripped. He’s talented. First was aware of him as John Glen in Hidden Figures. He’s terrific in Hit Man. Definitely a talented guy. So of course all the angry unhappy trolls on DL will do their best (worst).

As I often say- read almost any thread on DL and you’ll understand the MAGA phenom. There are a lot of very unhappy dystopian people in the world- perhaps much more than I was ever aware. The venom spewed at successful and talented people on DL while not necessarily right wing is in the same spirit of free floating anger and misinformation so common in the Right.

[QUOTE] He’s incredibly handsome- he’s ripped. He’s talented. First was aware of him as John Glen in Hidden Figures. He’s terrific in Hit Man. Definitely a talented guy.

All true. He’s a good actor, just not top A-list material. His eyes are too close together. He’s another Rami Malek. It’s better when the camera isn’t on him for too long. And if people don’t like looking at you for too long, you can’t be a leading actor.

by Anonymousreply 16June 11, 2024 2:32 AM

I haven't even seen a Glen Powell movie and I'm already over him.

by Anonymousreply 20June 11, 2024 3:13 AM

They're pushing him HARD.

by Anonymousreply 21June 11, 2024 3:16 AM

I think he'll reach a certain level, then fade - like Seann William Scott, Scott Foley, or Michael Vartan.

by Anonymousreply 22June 11, 2024 3:52 AM

R21: Even Chalamet wasn’t pushed this HARD.

by Anonymousreply 23June 11, 2024 3:55 AM

r23 it's like Powell came out of nowhere and now he's the new star we're all just going to love. At nearly 40. Who even heard of this guy less than two years ago?

by Anonymousreply 24June 11, 2024 4:01 AM

He is very pretty in that pic in OP's article, he's giving a rather endearing come hither and fuck me raw look to the camera. And I would

Someone in the NYT comments outed his family as super rich. They are 7th generation Texans and own a ranch. I’d like to see him on the Finding your roots show.

by Anonymousreply 26June 11, 2024 8:13 AM

“YOU MUST LOVE ME!!”

by Anonymousreply 27June 11, 2024 8:13 AM

Something's off, it's always the I've got a secret game some people in Hollywood play. Wouldn't surprise me if something comes up about him soon.

by Anonymousreply 28June 11, 2024 9:39 AM

He has no ass and he’s creepy.

by Anonymousreply 29June 11, 2024 9:48 AM

His popularity definitely seems a bit forced. A bit like Timothee Chalamet was a few years ago.

He's a classic example of a guy who has a perfect body and is then seen as hot, even though his face isn't particularly handsome. I know a guy in real life like that... amazing body but if you just look at his face, he's not good looking. Fair play to making the best of what he has, though.

by Anonymousreply 30June 11, 2024 10:10 AM

The guy has a huge amount of charisma, he's worked consistently in supporting roles and has now reached leading man status.

That's all

by Anonymousreply 31June 11, 2024 10:25 AM

I actually like his face. He's got a great smile and is indeed a masculine throwback without needing to be hyper-macho. But the thing that I can't get past is the corgi-like proportions. His torso is really long and his legs are kind of stubby and short. His arms are on the short side too. Once spotted, you can't unsee it.

He thinks he's gonna be big a star- in the Tom Cruise vein- but he won't. Big stars are extinct. Chris Hemsworth can't even open a movie that isn't a Thor flick. And I agree with other posters who say he's needy. Audiences don't want to be burdened with that. Once they start to get a whiff of that desperation, he won't be flavor of the month anymore...

by Anonymousreply 32June 11, 2024 11:03 AM

I don't like him at that angle in OP's pic, he looks like a deformed spaz.

by Anonymousreply 33June 11, 2024 11:07 AM

I like that he’s playing the Hollywood game. He’s very calculating and it’s refreshing.

However, is it translating into actual popularity? Or is it smoke and mirrors?

The fact that his social media following is so low kind of reflects it’s a PR push.

As I said in another thread, he has less of a social media following than some soft core porn stars on OnlyFans. Hollywood is loving him right now but does the public?

by Anonymousreply 34June 11, 2024 12:05 PM

Here is how bad Glen Powell is

He is doing a sitcom

He does not need to do a sitcom

He wants to.

The sitcom, “Chad Powers” which he is cowriting and coproducing, is not even his idea. It’s based on an Eli Manning sketch.

The humor of the sketch revolved around the cognitive dissonance of seeing 40 year old Manning pretend to be a college age football player walk-on “Chad Powers.”

Glen Powell, who actually is almost 40, will be playing a college football player in the series. Manning was playing himself playing Chad Powers; Powell is playing a college football quarterback who will be playing Chad Powers.

Glen Powell is not even a big man. Part of the reason he was even cast in Top Gun Maverick is because he wouldn’t tower over Tom Cruise.

Yet he has cast himself as a college football quarterback.

Why even bother with this? He wants to do movies right?

The answer is simple:

Ted Lasso.

He is ripping off Ted Lasso because he sees himself just like Jason Sudeikis did in that insufferable series:

Completely adorable.

R34 also makes a very good point

Jacob Elordi - 13.9 million

Sydney Sweeney - 20.3 million

Glen Powell - 1.6 million

by Anonymousreply 36June 11, 2024 12:14 PM

Even Barry Keoghan has 2.4 million

by Anonymousreply 37June 11, 2024 12:16 PM

I don’t think Instagram followers are very reliable. The vast majority of celebs let their PR reps handle their accounts and the number of followers can be bought or manipulated. I don’t trust the number of social media followers but he is absolutely being forced and pushed. All we can do is not see his movies because his PR will claim any little success a film had was because of him.

by Anonymousreply 38June 11, 2024 1:33 PM

[quote]The vast majority of celebs let their PR reps handle their accounts and the number of followers can be bought or manipulated.

Then why hasn’t he bought them

God people are stupid

by Anonymousreply 39June 11, 2024 1:43 PM

His PR team deserves some kind of award for making him go from obscure actor to household name in only a year or so.

by Anonymousreply 40June 11, 2024 3:14 PM

[quote]His PR team deserves some kind of award for making him go from obscure actor to household name in only a year or so.

I don't want to Mary! you but Mary? Seriously?

Glen Powell was not obscure a year ago - he'd had some supporting roles in big projects - and he's not a household name now - he's doing very well for himself after a huge box office hit.

by Anonymousreply 41June 11, 2024 3:24 PM

I don’t really care about him either way but his star desperation is a bit annoying. He’s not ugly or a bad actor, fine with me.

by Anonymousreply 42June 11, 2024 3:42 PM

How do you know he did ozempic?

by Anonymousreply 43June 11, 2024 4:27 PM

Who gives a fuck if anyone did ozempic? The ozempic troll just needs to fucking die already.

by Anonymousreply 44June 11, 2024 4:31 PM

I'd like to administer Ozempic straight into his perfect little tooshie. 😊

by Anonymousreply 45June 11, 2024 4:44 PM

The number of Instagram followers doesn’t reveal much. Followers can be bought and the comments can be manipulated. His 1.6 million Instagram followers ultimately doesn’t mean anything. I do think he isn’t as popular as the media would like you to believe. I hate that in today’s Hollywood actors are quickly given status they haven’t earned. He had one hit rom-com, big deal?

by Anonymousreply 46June 11, 2024 4:54 PM

Chalamet, Butler, Elordi... sure. But an actor his age who's just blowing up having 1.6 million followers is baloney. Bought accounts.

by Anonymousreply 47June 11, 2024 5:00 PM

[quote] into his perfect little tooshie.

It’s far from perfect.

by Anonymousreply 48June 11, 2024 5:03 PM

I think if Twisters is a hit he will be the next Bradley Cooper.

by Anonymousreply 49June 11, 2024 5:05 PM

YIKES he now reminds me of Bradley Cooper, was once kind of hot and now has morphed into ugly

by Anonymousreply 50June 11, 2024 5:06 PM

There’s an arrogance about him, as if he thinks he’s a real catch.

by Anonymousreply 51June 11, 2024 5:08 PM

Have we seen his dick? No? Then wake me up when we do.

by Anonymousreply 52June 11, 2024 5:09 PM

1.6 million followers isn’t a lot for an actor. If they’re being bought and paid for by PR, he should have like 10+ million.

But the lack of followers is telling.

Who’s popular today without it reflecting on social media?

by Anonymousreply 53June 11, 2024 5:11 PM

The trick is to maintain an illusion of popularity until the population at large realises his stardom is inevitable and we just sort of give in.

by Anonymousreply 54June 11, 2024 5:15 PM

Unless you closely follow Hollywood, the average person isn’t aware of Powell and the other “stars” that are foisted on the public. Even with social media. That’s how bland and forgettable the current crop of talent is in Hollywood. Cruise, Julia, Jennifer, Brad, Angelina, Clooney, Pitt, DiCaprio- all of them just had that special it factor that made memorable and household names.

by Anonymousreply 55June 11, 2024 5:16 PM

R54: He had a supporting role in Top Gun and one hit rom-com and all of sudden he’s Jesus. The industry is now telling us to accept him as Jesus or else. I think Hollywood quickly anoints actors with status they haven’t earned yet because the industry is at its knees. They’ll keep repeating Powell can open a movie over and over in the hopes that some people will actually start believing it.

by Anonymousreply 56June 11, 2024 5:19 PM

He’s pulling all of the Chris Evans roles, since Evans appears to have moved on. Sadly he’s no Chris Evans.

by Anonymousreply 57June 11, 2024 5:25 PM

R55 They didn’t have to compete with 24 hour entertainment outlets.

by Anonymousreply 58June 11, 2024 5:26 PM

With all due respect to this striving little guy’s apparent diligence and the pride he takes in having figured out just exactly how to become The Next Big Thing, I like the man of few words type WAY better.

Tommy Lee Jones

Must be a slow news week at the NYTImes Online as there have been at least four if not five stories about Powell or Hit Man or Linklater or Adria Arjona in the last few days. Did I enjoy the movie? Sure, but it falls apart once you start thinking about it. (It really should have been a four- or five-episode limited series to fill in the plot holes). Did I enjoy Powell? Sure, but there are plenty of actors who could have played the role. I have no interest in Twisters, though. Kudos to Hit Man for being an original script and not a rebooted, warmed-over known property.

When films are released media organisations tend to promote them with reviews, profiles and interviews etc

by Anonymousreply 67June 11, 2024 7:17 PM

Armie Hammer got fucked. Both Ronan Farrow and Gloria Allred ditched his accusers after stories stopped adding up. I think he was a cheater and treated women like shit but no more than the average straight douche bag.

All of the DMs and text messages were most likely photoshopped by that mentally ill chick he was banging.

That’s what he gets for banging crazy girls but he lost his entire career and reputation over it.

Hammer has a seriously fucked up fetish but that's it. Perhaps his one mistake is that he shouldn't have hit up random girls on social media but these women were willing participants.

by Anonymousreply 72June 11, 2024 8:02 PM

In the 1960s he would have been Peter Duel famous. Or maybe Michael Parks famous. But that's about it.

Hey R30, let’s see your face- he’s handsome and then some.

by Anonymousreply 74June 11, 2024 8:49 PM

It’s also kind of strange that the DL trolls don’t seem to know that promoting films is as old as cinema. It’s not some calculated move on his part to be loved. It’s about business.

by Anonymousreply 75June 11, 2024 8:52 PM

R71: Daisy Edgar Jones is the lead in it and there's also an IP argument to be made. You know all the articles after opening weekend will ignore all that and claim Glen Powell made the movie. Yeah unless he's hit with a credible Me too scandal or a string of future flops, he'll be put on the A list and it will be very hard to take him off the list. Even if Twisters falls below expectations the media will still somehow try to spin it as positive.

Watched HIT MAN the other day. Powell is more effective in the scenes where he's Ron, but he's not remotely believable in the scenes where he's Gary.

But there's something self-conscious about much of his acting, at least in this film.

by Anonymousreply 85June 14, 2024 6:50 PM

Hit Man was just another piece of disposable streaming drivel. You watch it once and you’ll never care to see it again.

by Anonymousreply 86June 14, 2024 7:13 PM

I did not care about Hit Man (the ending seemed rushed and a little WTF) but I laughed quite a bit with "Anyone but You."

by Anonymousreply 87June 14, 2024 7:39 PM

He has aged a lot since Top Gun Maverick

by Anonymousreply 88June 15, 2024 2:08 AM

Is he the most sought-after bachelor in Hollywood right now? Who would even come close? The PR people of all sorts of single celebs must be working overtime to try and connect with Glen's team and get him to consider their thirsty ingenue as his beard. They have to work fast as his stardom increases with each passing day – especially once Twisters comes out – which means lower-level sluts leave the consideration and new ones (some of them cusping A-listers) enter the game.

by Anonymousreply 89June 15, 2024 4:24 AM
