Carrie HUMILIATED by Big

And Charlotte loses it.

She deserved it, for that dead macaw in the first instance.

by Anonymousreply 1June 10, 2024 1:47 AM

She looked 70 in that scene.

by Anonymousreply 2June 10, 2024 2:04 AM

I broke down and bawled my eyes out during that scene, friends rib me to this day.

The DRESS was humiliating.

by Anonymousreply 5June 10, 2024 2:27 AM

Whoever did her makeup there hated her.

by Anonymousreply 6June 10, 2024 2:29 AM

The dress was gorgeous. The hair and makeup, not.

by Anonymousreply 7June 10, 2024 2:40 AM

This thread is weird timing as I'm rewatching satc laying in bed lately.

by Anonymousreply 8June 10, 2024 2:41 AM

I love the OTT drumbeat dramatic music, like this is some kind of global crisis.

And the metaphor of the bouquet braking apart, like their relationship, like Carrie’s heart. I’m shaking and sobbing at the profundity of it all.

This is part of the Criterion Collection, right???

by Anonymousreply 9June 10, 2024 3:08 AM

American collection of La Cinémathèque française.

by Anonymousreply 10June 10, 2024 3:14 AM

I prefer the alternative scene where a bus comes around the corner (one of the ones with Carrie in a tutu) and runs her over. Big, Miranda, and Charlotte have a good laugh and go for brunch.

by Anonymousreply 11June 10, 2024 3:40 AM

That’s still hilarious

by Anonymousreply 12June 10, 2024 3:45 AM

Charlotte’s mincing little steps in the tight bridesmaid’s dress got a laugh in the theater when I saw this.

by Anonymousreply 13June 10, 2024 3:49 AM

What happened before? He ditched her at the wedding?

by Anonymousreply 14June 10, 2024 3:51 AM

R14 Big was super late to his wedding because he had assumed it was at Belmont Park

by Anonymousreply 15June 10, 2024 8:41 AM

You can lead a horse to the chapel wearing its finest bridles and such, but you can’t make its fiancé marry it.

by Anonymousreply 16June 10, 2024 8:47 AM

Kristin Davis’ acting was funny.

I know I'm not supposed to....but I LOVE this movie.

by Anonymousreply 19June 10, 2024 12:05 PM

I hated this movie. At least the second one was amusing in a trainwreck sort of way ("Lawrence of my Labia"), while this one was just plain bad.

by Anonymousreply 20June 10, 2024 12:52 PM

Why did the makeup people make SJP look like an evil crone witch in that wedding getup?

by Anonymousreply 21June 10, 2024 12:54 PM

It was just a rehash of plots from the series (a bit like the AbFab movie.) Labia was truly awful but at least they put some imagination into creating something that awful. More to hate.

by Anonymousreply 22June 10, 2024 12:56 PM

SJP needs hair on her face to soften it. She looked her best with the curly mane or even when it was shorter like at her book launch. The scraped back look was very bad.

Miranda always had awful hair until she grew it longer and lightened the red.

by Anonymousreply 23June 10, 2024 2:55 PM

He said he was sorry.

by Anonymousreply 24June 10, 2024 3:05 PM

I have a friend whenever the situation requires a dramatic refusal of an offer, however inconsequential, he enjoys going, with eyes flailing and downturned lips trembling: ‘No. No!’

by Anonymousreply 25June 10, 2024 3:45 PM

[quote] SJP needs hair on her face to soften it

Perhaps a discrete goatee.

by Anonymousreply 26June 10, 2024 3:55 PM

I just learned recently that Kristin Davis and Chris Noth dated for a period of time during the show's run.

Unpopular opinion but the first SATC movie is a solid RomCon, one i can watch at least once or twice a year on it's own. It has solid pacing, solid fashion, a solid narrative, and is well shot. I really really liked the fashion from this time as well, because I was in my senior year of high school when this came out, so it brings back fond memories.

I don't watch the old show, can't get into the remake, and detest SATC2. But SATC 1 is like Crazy Rich Asians, an easy RomCom pick when I'm in the mood for such escapism.

by Anonymousreply 41June 10, 2024 6:51 PM

Unpopular, or just wrong? ;)

I kid. You were young.

by Anonymousreply 42June 10, 2024 8:04 PM

Don't be a neighsayer R42. 😀

by Anonymousreply 43June 10, 2024 8:28 PM

R30: “ He should have said, "You HAVE to forgive me!”

Miranda says it to Carrie later in the movie.

Eventually, maybe we will all have to say it Carrie.

by Anonymousreply 48June 10, 2024 9:35 PM

R41 I agree, although it was probably overlong it was a decent romcom. If Carrie wasn't so unreasonable she could have turned the car around and married him, he was going back to marry her after all.

SJP is supposedly tiny but her hands and feet are disproportionately large. In the show she said she wears a 7.5. That's big for a woman her height. My sister is short and wears 5.5-6 shoes. I'm a foot person so her feet always stuck out noticeably to me.

by Anonymousreply 50June 11, 2024 1:08 AM

SJP is supposedly tiny but her hooves are disproportionately large. In the show she said she wears a 7.5 racing plate. That's big for a filly her height. My mare is short and wears 5.5-6 plain shoes. I'm a blacksmith so her hooves always stuck out noticeably to me.

by Anonymousreply 51June 11, 2024 9:00 AM

What a gas, you are, R51! A regular laugh riot! Will you be here all night?

by Anonymousreply 52June 11, 2024 9:04 AM

She’s 5’3”. 7.5 shoe size isn’t huge. The pointy toed shoes make your feet look longer and larger.

by Anonymousreply 53June 11, 2024 9:04 AM

Geez she looks like Miss Havisham in that clip

by Anonymousreply 54June 11, 2024 9:19 AM

She never listened to Big or address his fears before the wedding so she brought it on herself

by Anonymousreply 55June 11, 2024 12:55 PM

R53, I'm talking about her bare feet. Huge canoes for her height.

When Charlotte screams NO at Big as her eyes whiz around in two different directions never fails to make me laugh out loud. It’s like she finds out he murdered someone on the way to his wedding.

SJP, as always, looks hideous from start to finish in this movie, and her bony veiny feet and arms should remain covered at all times. Same with her face.

by Anonymousreply 58June 12, 2024 1:11 AM

Don't forget Kristin's bizarre facial spasm when she shits herself. She really was awful the whole movie long.

by Anonymousreply 59June 12, 2024 8:25 AM

R45/R46/R47’s posts are pointless. And retarded. Don’t forget retarded.

by Anonymousreply 60June 12, 2024 12:12 PM

The most maddening thing in the movie was she took him back because he emailed her History's Greatest Love Letters. Just had his secretary cut and paste them into emails.

by Anonymousreply 61June 12, 2024 1:21 PM

She took him back because she missed him and he was rich. She was always obsessed with Big. Carrie was just as much a social climber as Charlotte. She was never going to settle for some nice shlub with an ordinary job who was nice to her.

by Anonymousreply 62June 12, 2024 4:26 PM

r61 how is that mad? Big was the love of her life and was crazy rich. The woman casually BUYS a NY palace at the end of S2 of ASJLT with Big's money. She was in her 40s. Any person would have accepted and he was sorry. Cold feet happens but he apologized at the church, but she freaked out instead of being an adult, having a conversation with him, then getting married that day.

So, yes, she needed to forgive him to at least have a retirement plan. Her book money wouldn't last forever.

by Anonymousreply 63June 14, 2024 11:41 PM

Was Charlotte a climber though? I always thought she was the real deal what with working in a gallery and going to Smith and riding and pearls etc. Again, the SATC mythology has forced the audience into believing that Charlotte is best buddies with a dirtbag like Carrie.

by Anonymousreply 64June 15, 2024 6:20 AM

I think Charlotte was a climber in that she would never consider a less-than-rich man like Miranda and Samantha. She also cared about making it in NY society, elevating herself by marriage. She clearly had a privileged background but aspired to higher things she didn't already have through family connections.

The show softened her by marrying Harry, as he wasn't conventionally attractive and a bit of a slob. If he was a car salesman instead of a filthy rich attorney she wouldn't have looked twice at him as he couldn't give her prestige.

Carrie wasn't so much a climber as she might enjoy attention and celebrity but wasn't so concerned with fitting in with NY high society, although she certainly welcomed it in the end.
