I have sailed on it a few times when visiting New Orleans. That is always fun.

St. Louis borders the Mississippi river for 19 miles from north to south. Other than 1/4 of the mile for the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial/Gateway Arch, there isn't a damn thing in the other 18.75 miles worth looking at, unless abandoned warehouses and factories, junk and salvage yards and weed filled empty lots are your thing.

St. Louis turned its back on its riverfront decades ago and has done nothing to change or improve it.

When I was a kid, we went on a car ferry across the river somewhere, the fucker was so wide there, it was like crossing a large lake, it doesn't feel like your on a river at all. There's no discernable flow. The deepest part is 200 feet deep.

There's a YouTube channel that I stumbled upon a few years ago, with a series videos chronicling a trip down the Mississippi River from Minnesota to New Orleans in a houseboat. I found it really interesting! I had no idea how scenic the landscape was around the upper portions of it (especially in Minnesota). The image I'd had in my mind whenever someone said the name was of the southern Mississippi -- from south of St. Louis maybe? But the upper part is beautiful.

The latter. A friend wanted to give his mom a cruise. She didn't want him to spend money on her but he insisted so she picked the Mississippi. Not only was it boring and cold but the weather sucked.

I've always thought it was a very uninteresting, muddy river with no real points of interest. Seriously. It would be boring as fuck - and any tour boats would be pumping up any old historical tale along the river just to stop the crushing boredom.

New Orleans is the highlight. That's all you need.
