Crystal City Documentary - Meth Use in the NYC Gay Community

I haven't seen anything about this on The DL. It is very interesting and powerful documentary about meth in our community and the story of a few men who have lived through the hell of meth addiction. I've never done it and have never been in the drug scene so it was quite and eye opener.

A whole new meaning to “Above the Clouds”

by Anonymousreply 2June 7, 2024 2:04 AM

LGBTQ?

Was meth ever a thing with lesbians - like gay men?

by Anonymousreply 3June 7, 2024 2:36 AM

Is this 2003?

by Anonymousreply 4June 7, 2024 2:38 AM

Op never got out much. It’s always been there, in your face. You were too shallow to see what was happening around you.

by Anonymousreply 5June 7, 2024 2:41 AM

It's been a gay male thing for at least the last 25 years in it's present forms/applications.

As crack is to ghetto denizens, meth is to gay ones.

by Anonymousreply 6June 7, 2024 2:41 AM

It's mainly the monkey-see monkey-do gays without much of a clue about how to live without following the shallow crowd.

I have seen come car wrecks and to a person they were the shallow gays.

by Anonymousreply 7June 7, 2024 3:16 AM

You could not be more mistaken R7.

We've always been more into herbal teas, pizza, and canes.

[quote]Was meth ever a thing with lesbians - like gay men?

No, because lesbians quickly tire of sex, they're fine with simply abusing alcohol.

by Anonymousreply 10June 7, 2024 3:33 AM

I dated a girl then found out she was on meth. Thankfully I didn't move her in after the 1st date.

by Anonymousreply 11June 7, 2024 3:58 AM

It's the only thing that makes Michfest bearable.

by Anonymousreply 12June 7, 2024 4:30 AM

Not just the gay community. Trump might be on it too

I'm looking for Tina...

It's horrendous in LA especially West Hollywood. Fresh to the scene gays get sucked into the vorTex of meth or heroin no in-between. It's most sad when it's the young fresh-faced boys getting involved because you can see the degradation of their skin and attitudes so quick. Once promising now another statistic.

by Anonymousreply 15June 7, 2024 5:16 AM

Chris Burrous says that rumors of meth use in LA is a damn lie.

by Anonymousreply 16June 7, 2024 5:47 AM

It's been AT LEAST 25 years yes, I was one of those who took care of my friends while they tripped and or were speeding their tits off, good thing I was only very DRUNK, I did not partake and never have. Those were scary days.

by Anonymousreply 17June 7, 2024 5:48 AM

r14, she's getting the ax.

by Anonymousreply 18June 7, 2024 4:03 PM

I think an important lesson is that we are awful to each other and that there is really no community.

I always felt that a gay bar is the loneliest place on earth. Straight bars people actually talk to each other.

by Anonymousreply 19June 8, 2024 9:51 PM

I can't think of a drug with a dirtier, trashier reputation. Worse than huffing a paper bag filled with patio sealant.

From the Gutter to the Penthouse. All walks of life.

[quote]Was meth ever a thing with lesbians - like gay men?

Never. Lesbians prefer Miller Lite and Marlboro Ultra Lights.

by Anonymousreply 22August 14, 2024 1:59 AM

PnP.

People use it & fuck for days, so of course it was very popular with men and even women who were into that.

by Anonymousreply 23August 14, 2024 2:16 AM

R3 no apparently meth makes for a dry tongue.

by Anonymousreply 24August 14, 2024 2:44 AM

I watched that film b4, I'm soooo glad I was an 80's meth whore (crank& speed pills). The things I did while on meth& drinking in NYC, Philly, Chicago, Wash DC, and the Jersey shore. I never understood the gays that used needles to shoot meth & heroin, I don't think so!!

That crystal meth would have sent me over the edge.

by Anonymousreply 25August 14, 2024 2:46 AM

How long have you been sober R25?

by Anonymousreply 26August 14, 2024 2:15 PM

This poison's destroying a whole new generation of gays in every major city but especially in LA, NYC and Chicago. You can see the decline in the faces of the young gays who get involved in the circuit scene, lost and haggard.

by Anonymousreply 27August 14, 2024 2:22 PM

I’ve known plenty of good people get trapped in addiction. They were not shallow or superficial. They enjoyed themselves until they became dependent, and it can happen to anyone.

by Anonymousreply 28August 14, 2024 2:24 PM

I know more people addicted to opioids than meth, opioids cross all social barriers.

by Anonymousreply 29August 14, 2024 3:56 PM

Meth is so insidious, you start with the best sex of your life and you end with losing your integrity, utter physical and financial self-destruction, illegal porn, crime, etc.

by Anonymousreply 30August 14, 2024 3:59 PM

To R26...I never had a drinking problem or a Meth problem. Honestly, I was drinking& drugging after work because that is what the "Stockbroker lifestyle" was in the late 1980's. It made me feel invincible& untouchable to harm; all that "bad foster care stuff" that happened to me, I forgot all about it.

A friend of mine came from NYC to Chicago and was a member of both of their “marquis” gay choruses. Great job at JPM Chase in HR. Became board chair at CGMC. But his behavior grew so odd. Paranoid, would disappear for a few days and reappear looking like hell. Would begin these serious and seemingly happy relationships that would inexplicably crash and burn. A very controlling dry drunk behavior that ended his success on the board. Turns out; secret meth addiction. Went back to NYC and his career stalled and still cycling thru bfs who break all contact with him after a few months. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 32August 14, 2024 4:26 PM

No sympathy, zero....

by Anonymousreply 33August 14, 2024 9:55 PM

I know plenty of gays who quit meth cold turkey. It can be and is fine, all the time.

by Anonymousreply 34August 19, 2024 1:32 AM

🛑*done, not fine

by Anonymousreply 35August 19, 2024 1:43 AM

So many guys in NYC on the apps start the convo with "Party?" I'm like wtf? I don't get it. It's really pervasive. If I tried that shit once I know I would be dead.
