I've watched the first episode.
It's all very lovely, and it's great to see depictions of a a healthy gay adult relationship in a mainstream programme that isn't chaste but is actually sexual and playful and loving. It's also very well acted, especially Fra Fee and Sion Daniel Young.
But I also found it a touch too sentimental at times, and I kind of resent that still the choice for gay men still seems to either be a life of drugs and group sex or respectable and responsible parenthood. Some of us are quite well-adjusted childless sluts.

I've just watched the second. And it goes completely off the rails.

r2 In a good or bad way?

I just watched the first episode. It was really good!

There seems to be a lot of Twitter love for it, but I found the second episode cloyingly sentimental and the third one a bit of a melodramatic mess. I don't think the final outcome is ever really in doubt, so what happens in the third and final episode feels like a bit of a detour from what the series purports to be about and is less interesting than the first two episodes. But it still seems to boil down to a pretty reductive question: do you want to be a sad, irresponsible gay who injects drugs and gets barebacked by strangers in hotel rooms, or do you want to be a good responsible and sober gay who raises a child?
Also, there's a sequence in the final episode that even Paul Thomas Anderson didn't quite manage to pull off.

What kind of name is Fra Free? Is that Welsh?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 6, 2024 2:59 PM |
Fra Free is Irish. And gay and out and TATTED and HOT!
His partner is the actor (and also hot) Declan Bennett.

How come it's not spelled 'faeries'?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 6, 2024 3:10 PM |
This sounds "preachy" and degrading to gay men, sounded good at first.

OK, that thid episode was shit. Another gay thrope. No thanks.

It's Fra FEE, and he was divine in The Ferryman in NYC a few years back.

r8 Oh, that's that guy from The Long Call, a show I loved. Starring another homo well known to DL, Ben Aldridge.
Damn, he and Fra make for a cute couple.

Have lived together in rural Oxfordshire since 2020, apparently. A pandemic romance.

Well they certainly used every cliche in the book. And the Mad World scene deserves a thousand Mary’s.
