Amazing that they saved it. But it's a white elephant without a purpose and kind of nowhere in the current Detroit.
What will be in the tower?

Offices for what, though?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 4, 2024 8:10 PM |
The plan is to convert it into a male brothel.

I'm sorry to be a pessimist but I already have a several hideous images about how this is going to shake out as a "space". It will start with some shitty chain coffee shop in one of those cavernous rooms. Then there will be events, decorated under-scale, trying to make up with shitty event lighting design, not to mention the horrible acoustics.

Isn't Ford Motors involved with this development, both as tenant and developet?

Look at all the green space on that map. Those were derelict houses pulled down, right?

Detroit really has made strides in recent years. It has a long way to go, but I think it has a good future.

In other words, there’s no intention of restoring rail service to this beautiful building?
The current Amtrak station in Detroit is quite sad looking.

I have plans with friends to do a tour there in a few weeks.

They did a amazing job with the restoration. I saw what they went through with Grand Central Station in NY so I can very much appreciate saving a historic building.

I believe Ford Motor will occupy the space to use as a technology campus

Do any DLers live in the Motor City? Do you plan to see this? I went there once, I just remember an elderly man in a folding chair watching the parking lot when I went to Menjo’s. It was quaint. This had to have been like 10 years ago.

It’s ironic.

GM is moving out of Ren Cen and into the Hudson's Tower currently under construction. I think Ford will move from Dearborn to this. And next year the new Gordie Howe bridge will open, the largest point of entry ever between the US and Canada.

Billions into Detroit, but not a dime from Mitt Romney nor from any Republican, let's be frank.

More RAIL
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 9, 2024 3:01 AM |
NO, the station is not going to be used for rail
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 9, 2024 3:17 AM |
Why did they bother.who’s going to see it who matters. It will be trashed in a few years
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 9, 2024 5:59 AM |
Lovely restoration. A shame it will be more of a museum than a true public place. I hope they find a good use for it.

Melissa Dittmer, Head of Place
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 9, 2024 6:26 AM |
I would imagine she did. Gotta love that garbage sack she made into a dress too.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 9, 2024 3:17 PM |
And I"m not being ironic. This world can surely use mroe individualists.

How soon until it gets recalled?

Velma from Scooby Doo was in charge of the restoration apparently.
She did a lovely job though,

If Velma and Tina from Bob's Burgers had a baby.

Don't forget the Motor City.

More footage of the station in decay from the 2002 film NAQOYQATSI

Detroit is gross.

I must have been insane
I lied and said Mama died on a weekend trip to Spain
She never got out of the house
Never even boarded a train

I applaud this restoration. Detroit has gone through so much from the 1960s, with the riots and the white flight, and the significant loss of the industrial jobs, it is taking decades to recover, but it is happening.

Will I be able to watch the Hudson's Thanksgiving Day Parade from there?
