Earwax removal appears to remove portions of someone’s brain

How does someone not know they have all this inside them?

I ended up with a peanut sized impacted ball of wax douched out of my ear. I have a little ear pick tool that I regularly use, but got monster waxy buildup just beyond its reach.

by Anonymousreply 1June 3, 2024 1:30 PM

Those earigator vids are nasty, but satisfying.

by Anonymousreply 2June 3, 2024 1:47 PM

Where do you have this done?

by Anonymousreply 3June 3, 2024 1:58 PM

That happened to my cousin. She was like six years old. Adults have no excuse at all.

by Anonymousreply 4June 3, 2024 2:19 PM

Otoscopes are dirt cheap.

by Anonymousreply 5June 3, 2024 2:20 PM

My brother went deaf in one ear, went to the DR, they did this and he walked out hearing.

by Anonymousreply 6June 3, 2024 2:21 PM

This works...

What is this? A spin off of Dr. Pimple Popper?

by Anonymousreply 8June 3, 2024 10:42 PM

Can I do this at home with my WaterPik? Or do I have to get it professionally done by a nurse or doctor?

by Anonymousreply 9June 3, 2024 10:48 PM

I only recently learned that I have an unusually long ear canal.

by Anonymousreply 10June 3, 2024 10:49 PM

Pics please.

by Anonymousreply 11June 3, 2024 10:51 PM

That just means you have less brain, r10.

by Anonymousreply 12June 3, 2024 10:54 PM

I need to have this done. Instead I will do it myself using hydrogen peroxide to loosen the wax.

by Anonymousreply 13June 4, 2024 1:33 AM

Those aren't even as remotely horrifying as it gets - check out youtube for stuff that will make you vomit a little inside your mouth.

You can do it yourself or go to a doctor. I did it myself with a kit and it got the wax out but I felt like I had water trapped in my ear for a couple years after. Never after the doctor did it.

by Anonymousreply 17June 4, 2024 1:56 AM

I get a hard-on every time I see that Wush commercial.

by Anonymousreply 18June 4, 2024 2:04 AM

This explains the MAGA movement. Less brain equals less critical thinking.

by Anonymousreply 19June 4, 2024 2:21 AM

I had more than this when I had "swimmer's ear" back in the 80s

by Anonymousreply 20June 4, 2024 3:10 AM

I had an ENT Specialist remove it a few weeks ago, but I still have a hollow sound in my left ear. I'll probably need to follow up to get a hearing aid.

by Anonymousreply 21June 4, 2024 3:18 AM

R3 The nurse practitioner at my hospital. Doc examine prior. I had to work on melting the ball down with generic ear drops (peroxide and probably water) days before the irrigation. The tool just looked like a little nozzle they screwed onto a simple squirt bottle. Some ear drops have that tooltip but it's on a small syringe. The nurse went through one and a half large squirt bottles dislodging that thing. (My ear canal is small and extra twisty only on that side.)

Someone on DL posted that they watched blackhead popping and ear wax removal on youtube. When I put that into the youtube search field, it came up with really scary clips of people with blackheads in their ear canals having them popped. It was mesmerising but disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 23June 4, 2024 1:47 PM

The worst ones are when they pull a cockroach out. There was a clinic in India that used to post them to youtube.

by Anonymousreply 24June 4, 2024 1:49 PM

Has anyone ever tried ear candles? That melts the wax a bit and then sucks it out. Then you can cut open the “candle” paper and see how dirty your ear was.

It’s an odd, but fun, theme for a party. Especially for competitive people.

by Anonymousreply 25June 4, 2024 2:28 PM

Microsuction is the preferred method of ear wax removal these days. They put a needle into your ear and it sucks the wax out. it is less damaging to the ears than the traditional syringing method.

by Anonymousreply 26June 4, 2024 2:51 PM

I had it done once due to an intense ear ache and the amount of shit that came out was disgusting!

I could suddenly hear ten times better in that ear than the other which was strange, so even if only one ear is the problem have the doctor clean out both.

by Anonymousreply 27June 4, 2024 4:45 PM

I once had a huge amount of wax impairing my hearing so badly that after it was suctioned out, I could hear the tissues rustling in my pocket as I walked. It eventually went away as my ears adjusted but it was amazing.

We used to do the ear candling regularly, but there are all these warnings against it now.

Thinking about going back to it anyway.

by Anonymousreply 30June 12, 2024 5:05 AM

Thought the ear candling was proven to be an easily disproved scam.

by Anonymousreply 31June 12, 2024 5:10 AM

My doctor always checks my ears and tells me they're clean.

by Anonymousreply 32June 12, 2024 5:14 AM

WHAT? WHAT?

by Anonymousreply 33June 12, 2024 1:44 PM

I made a butter cow out of my salvaged ear wax.

I tried candles but they were too smokey.

by Anonymousreply 34June 12, 2024 2:18 PM

It was, R31. It’s ineffective and does nothing.

by Anonymousreply 35June 12, 2024 2:41 PM

My cat would go crazy sniffing my earwax.

For the past 8 years now I’ve been semi-routinely dropping peroxide in my ears and letting it bubble around. Doing it a few times a year keeps the ear canals cleared out and trouble free. One grows to appreciate the tickling sensation on the ear drum. It’s eargasmic!

by Anonymousreply 39July 13, 2024 4:27 PM

A zillion years ago when I was attending UC Berkeley, my long distance boyfriend was visiting me, and lost hearing in one ear. Took him to the student clinic, where they flushed the ear out- they made me hold the pan to catch the wax. He had so much dark purple wax, I swear it was at least a middle finger's length. I was laughing my ass off because I couldn't believe how much came out. They told him to rinse out his ear in the shower the next day with a bulb, and MORE came out.

R40, was he suffering from an infected ear? Btw, what is a bulb?

by Anonymousreply 43July 16, 2024 1:02 PM

r43, no it wasn't infected at all, just compacted with ear wax.

by Anonymousreply 46July 18, 2024 6:39 AM

I try to wipe (not jam into) my ears after a shower softens the wax with a Qtip. I think it’s worked.

by Anonymousreply 47July 18, 2024 9:19 AM

Obviously the guy did know he had all that in his ear, ergo his reason for seeking medical help.

I, unlike some others, have an amazing grasp of the obvious.

by Anonymousreply 48July 18, 2024 10:23 AM

Y'all NASTY...

by Anonymousreply 49July 18, 2024 12:17 PM

I would love to have massive nuggets of wax removed from my ears. It seems like it would be really satisfying.

by Anonymousreply 50July 21, 2024 3:09 PM

I agree, R50. Like taking a giant dump.

by Anonymousreply 51July 21, 2024 11:51 PM

My stupid friend Julie's (such a bitch) stupid church asks for the irrigated ear wax to be donated so they can use it for candles. They save a lot of money but she said you can't smell the incense it's so thick and the mosaics are all tarred over.

I hate her.

by Anonymousreply 52July 22, 2024 12:22 AM

My neighbor’s daughter suddenly went deaf in one ear. She took her to the ER. It was caused by earwax and it turned out she had some weird inner ear shape that caused it to build up abnormally. When they removed it her hearing was fine.

by Anonymousreply 53July 22, 2024 1:39 AM
