Are you into the Law of Attraction?

If so, what have you manifested (money, jobs, relationships etc.) and which techniques did you use?

What are your favorite LOA books?

I'm a Neville Goddard fan and I've also used some techniques from Florence Scovell Shinn, Joseph Murphy and Geneviève Behrand.

by Anonymousreply 71December 12, 2024 7:08 PM

I meditate every morning and state my affirmations. If that is manifestation, then yes. However, my affirmations are more in general. Affirmations (say 3 times each after 20 minute meditation:

Everything I do today will success and prosper, it feels amazing I am ready to receive all the good that life has to offer I am greeted with financial success everywhere I go I am at home in my body, I feel peace and joy Every day and in every way, I am getting better and better I welcome miracles into my life today and it feel amazing

I deserve fulfilling relationships, my heart is open My body knows how to heal itself and it is doing so now I am blessed, I have favor and abundance in my life I will live in the moment and be in peace I am a caring, kind, considerate person I will always see the best in every situation

Meditation and affirmations have definitely helped me. I am more calm, centered and have better clarity.

If what I have listed above can help someone, super!

LOA and visualizing has worked for me work wise. I have success if not wealth

Personally? No. I'm dying of loneliness

by Anonymousreply 3June 2, 2024 7:13 PM

But I'll keep trying

by Anonymousreply 4June 2, 2024 7:13 PM

I use a very practical and straight forward method. It focuses more on daydreaming than actual meditation, with which I feel self-conscious trying to do. It's not about clearing your mind and focusing on a specific thing. It is more about daydreaming and conjuring the emotions within yourself to generate that exact same emotion in the future, in the best way the universe sees fit. You are pre-acting instead of re-acting to situations.

The best way to describe the process is like when you play the mega millions loto ticket and your mind playful wonders to all of the things you would do if you actually won, how you'd live. It's not about winning the loto, it's about sewing that happy, hopeful feeling into your future, and down the line it will come to you in some way. So if you want money, (which is the easiest thing to attract), you day dream about how lucky you are and how easily money comes to you, and you don't have to work for it, etc... Surprisingly it has worked like 90% of the time. - I have, oddly enough, a lot deja vus and really weird coincidences in everyday life when I do it.

It's called Flow Dreaming. It is very practical, easy to do and good for people who have trouble staying still, concentrating on one thing. There are certain pre-recorded Flow Dreams I listen to - "Super Lucky" "The Yellow Brick Road of Yes". It actually really works for me.

Of course my lazy ass, I am not disciplined enough to actually grow something. I use it to get myself out of a jam.

“St. Anthony! St. Anthony! Please come down!

Something’s lost that must be found!”

by Anonymousreply 6June 2, 2024 7:38 PM

R6 I knew it as "I've lost, I've lost, I cannot find. St. Anthony please help me to look around for " whatever. It's actually helpful in that you're staying mindful while looking for something, when often people get lost in looking for something and seeing through what they're looking for because they're not fully present while looking.

Glasses being 'lost', and looking around while they're resting across the top of ones head is a perfect example of this.

Every day and in every way, I am getting better and better

This is one of the old school originals that I believe a hypnotist used in the late 1800's or early 1900's

Wasn't this a french dude or that dude from Maine (Quimby?)

I do try to always feel/say this one every night---

Always go tried and true-

by Anonymousreply 9June 2, 2024 8:16 PM

R9 It was invented in the 1920s by a French pharmacist named Émile Coué.

You're supposed to say it 20 times, 2X per day.

He wrote a great book called "My Method" which I highly recommend.

by Anonymousreply 10June 2, 2024 9:10 PM

OP!!! R10-- I owe you one.. I THINK it was Marissa Peer who brought him up, or maybe even Dr Joseph Murphy (who I fucking ADORE) One of those two mentioned him--

I will make sure I do this at night and first thing in the AM.

I firmly believe that life is all about the subconcious mind, and alot of who we are- good and bad- was established there before the age of 9 years old...

by Anonymousreply 11June 2, 2024 9:32 PM

I had a useless therapist roll her eyes at me as I was talking and ask me if I have read "The Secret"

by Anonymousreply 12June 2, 2024 9:55 PM

I tend to think people who follow the law of attraction are nutty.

by Anonymousreply 13June 2, 2024 10:09 PM

My pleasure R11. Joseph Murphy mentions Coué in his book "The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind."

by Anonymousreply 14June 2, 2024 10:11 PM

It’s always worked for me when I concentrate on it. And it’s quite clear when something positive happens that it’s a result of it. There is no trying to fit a square peg in a round hole just to confirm it works. The results are very specific to what I’ve focused on, that no doubt remains that it wasn’t LOA.

by Anonymousreply 19June 3, 2024 2:51 AM

R13. I debated a friend once over who was more well known: Louise Hay or Louise Tate.

"Larry says always keep an extra bottle of Scotch nearby in case Darren's mother-in-law turns the client into a goat!"

I wanted to believe it. I have seen positive results from believing it.

But explain wars, death, illness...etc.

by Anonymousreply 20June 3, 2024 7:16 AM

R20, law of attraction isn't about turning the world into a Happy Place. It's just basically energy is attracted to like energy.

by Anonymousreply 21June 3, 2024 10:02 AM

For those who require scientific proof, I would recommend you start with these three books.

The Field by Lynn McTaggart

The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot

The Cosmic Hologram by Dr. Jude Currivan

They are not specifically about the Law of Attraction but about the nature of reality. Once you realize that everything in our reality is created by fields of information interacting with each other, you can understand how things manifest from focused and directed thoughts and intentions.

by Anonymousreply 22June 3, 2024 11:43 AM

No. It's not only a scam, it's vile. It's a lot more offensive to me than praying. No matter which traditional faith, all but Hinduism concede that sometimes shit just happens and no one understands why. (And even in Hinduism, the idea of karma is somehow more complex than its pop culture version). The "Law of Attraction" bullshit is devised and propagated by rich people. "See? It works for me!" What's with the slaves in some cobalt mine or some poor kid starving in Yemen? I bet they just didn't "manifest" hard enough. I worked for a woman who was (at that time) believing in this. I tried to make an appointment with a contractor and the person in question was on a holiday for a couple of days. She blamed me (and it was not a joke) for something wrong with my aura, thus attracting this. The person who fixed me up with the job (whose job I took) had discussions with her because she blamed him for his hay fever.

tl;dr: The Law of Attraction is an anti-empathy ersatz religion for the rich that feeds hybris and delusion. The universe doesn't care shit if you manifest your lost necklace. Others care if you're not self-absorbed, so maybe stick with beliefs that guide you toward becoming a better person.

by Anonymousreply 23June 3, 2024 12:03 PM

I'm manifesting some tumors up your ass

by Anonymousreply 24June 3, 2024 1:18 PM

R23 The modern version of the Law of Attraction started by Rhonda Byrne with The Secret is a remake of the New Thought Movement which originated in the US in the 19th century. It was a mix of Christian Science, New Age, psychology, positive thinking and affirmative prayer. It was less materialistic than the modern day LOA version so you might enjoy it more.

The Secret is a good place to start but it should lead you to more complex books about the power of intention and manifestation because it's all real and it works whether you believe in it or not. I think it was Canadian physicist William Tiller who said that there's so much evidence for the power of intention that there should be college degrees in that field of study.

^^I'm OP^^

by Anonymousreply 26June 3, 2024 2:13 PM

I agree 100% with r23.

by Anonymousreply 27June 3, 2024 2:20 PM

I guess kids who get cancer or are molested or trafficked just didn't say the right affirmations.

by Anonymousreply 28June 3, 2024 2:24 PM

"I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me."

by Anonymousreply 29June 3, 2024 3:45 PM

I'm in the middle most days.

There's no argument for the caner and coal mine kids.

That said, people do like to be around more positive people.

Who wants to hang with Debbie Downer, talking about feline AIDS.

by Anonymousreply 30June 3, 2024 4:30 PM

Wow, and I thought astrology believers were demented. I have heard of "The Secret," but I had no idea the idea is so incredibly stupid.

by Anonymousreply 31June 3, 2024 4:32 PM

R31, you are incredibly stupid to have lived in America for the many years I am sure you have and to have never heard of the Secret. Whether you believe it or not, I would not admit that out loud in any forum.

R31 reminds of my favorite line for a Woody Allen movie, Celebrity, where the airhead actress, who just started taking up screenwriting, asks "Ever heard of Chekhov? I write just like him."

by Anonymousreply 32June 3, 2024 5:16 PM

In my opinion, Prayer IS a form of manifestation. It's not a super power. But every time I have done it, it works for me. I just become very lucky even in the smallest things. You know when you feel you are pursuing something and you're just constantly hitting a brick wall - as they say a "Shovel around every corner." When I am in the zone, things just happen, open up, they become easy - parking spots in front, money in my pockets I forgot I had, someone treats me to a dinner I wasn't expecting, I get free stuff offered to me. It's just odd. We are not talking about millions of dollars, but life just seems to flow in a very pleasant unexpected way. That doesn't mean it is all like that, life does happen. But if I can flow through more efficiently, happily, why not?

Manifestation won't cure cancer, but it will definitely put the right people in your path to work their hardest to help you get better or have a more peaceful journey out.

I run my own small business. Sometimes I am hitting walls of no sales for weeks at a time, every little thing is difficult - shipping problems, complaints, items not available. When I have the energy to focus on my business through manifesting, imaging what it would be like to be constantly busy, I'll have people reach out from nowhere all of a sudden requesting stuff. It happens all the time like that, so I know there is something to it.

R32, I have heard of the Secret, as I clearly stated in my post, you illiterate fuck. I just never paid attention to what it's about, correctly assuming it's a bunch of goofy Frau shit.

by Anonymousreply 36June 3, 2024 7:04 PM

Hail Mary, full of grace,

Help me find a parking space.

by Anonymousreply 37June 3, 2024 7:10 PM

R36 has never heard of quantum physics.

A bunch of goofy frau shit?

Niels Bohr, Alain Aspect and Erwin Schrodinger weren't fraus if I remember correctly.

Even the 2000+ year old Bhagavad Gita talks about parallel universes, holographic projection and how our entire reality is one big illusion.

More frau shit I suppose.

by Anonymousreply 38June 3, 2024 9:22 PM

Poppycock.

by Anonymousreply 39June 3, 2024 9:31 PM

I keep a well-worn and loved paperback copy of "The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn" on my nightstand.

2024 marks the 100 year anniversary of the little pamphlet "The Daily Word." It was that monthly booklet of daily readings which led me back in the day to first attend the Sunday Unity services held at Lincoln Center.

"Let there be Peace on Earth, and let It begin with me. So be it."

by Anonymousreply 40June 3, 2024 9:48 PM

R40 Which techniques from Florence have you used successfully?

My mother once won $8,000 at a casino using Florence's money visualization technique.

by Anonymousreply 41June 4, 2024 12:16 PM

I explored this about 11 years ago and walked away, rejecting it.

One of the principles is to never say nothing bad or negative about anyone or anything - because doing so “puts the bad energy out there”.

But the problem with that is that it trains people to be in denial about the things they are struggling with. It also trains people to be passive and ‘happy’ when someone isn’t treating them well.

Not for me.

by Anonymousreply 42June 4, 2024 2:52 PM

It's pseudo-science that's nice food for thought, but I wouldn't risk anything. Kinda like astrology.

by Anonymousreply 43June 4, 2024 3:02 PM

R42 You're not in denial, you just imagine a better reality for yourself while getting the help you need. Being positive isn't being in denial. If someone has a health problem, they can accept it, get help but also visualize being healthy. I don't see anything wrong with that.

by Anonymousreply 44June 4, 2024 3:02 PM

It's not denial r42. People would be amazed how often they chose a negativity over positivity when, in a given situation, both are true. We can be very self-deprecating to be funny, or non assuming. We can immediately go to something going wrong with plans in our mind. We immediately see what someone ISN'T giving us, instead of what we are getting from life. As The Pet Shop Boys said - "Happiness is an Option."

by Anonymousreply 45June 4, 2024 6:56 PM

R44 - It's counter to my belief system. I think it trains people to swallow their emotions, and replace them with 'acceptable' and imagined feelings in their place. The problem with that is that the initial emotion doesn't really go away .. it is internalized until it comes out the wrong way, at a later time. You know, like throwing a stapler across the room over the smallest issue, right when you thought everything was going so well.

Yes, I get that some people dwell on the negative, and they could use a healthy dose of positive thinking. Our culture today promotes a lot of negativity, cynicism, and neediness. I'm not suggesting that things are fine the way they are. I'm just saying (after reading the book, watching the movie, and giving it a try) that it felt inauthentic - for me.

by Anonymousreply 46June 4, 2024 7:58 PM

OP, are you just here to spread your philosophy? Are you even a true DLer?

by Anonymousreply 47June 4, 2024 8:07 PM

That particular approach was wrong, R46, because it's not about swallowing emotions, or trying to replace them. It's important to be in the full experience of all human emotions, all of them are valid. But if you listen to anyone who has reached a certain age, you will often hear them say they wish they hadn't taken such and such so seriously. I think especially in our culture, we breeze over the actual good things, take them for granted and really focus on what the problem is right in front of us. And in doing that, the problem usually gets blown way out of proportion to the actual issue. Now I am not talking about cancer or not being able to feed your children, or dying in war. But to be honest, MOST of us aren't facing those crises right now. Yet we are still "bogged down" in feeling powerless, or helpless, of ineffectual, cynical. For me, the LOA works best when I teach myself to give as much attention to the good things, water them, however small and take problems in their proper perspective. As the saying goes, "The Wolf You Feed..." Tiny little changes in paying closer attention to the right wolf to feed has a major impact - you ATTRACT more good things. On a very basic level, your own personal energy shifts, and people gravitate towards that, people who want to be in your orbit.

But people will say that is rubbish, because they are afraid to actually believe in something again. They are done trying and getting hurt, feeling like a failure. So it's easier to poke fun as so many have done already on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 48June 4, 2024 9:46 PM

For one, there are 8 billion people in the world. Everyone on this board right now is living better than 85% of them. You are living better than almost 7 Billion people alive right now. We've all hit the lottery in life. That alone is huge. Be fucking thankful for that.

by Anonymousreply 49June 4, 2024 9:50 PM

Only idiots believe this nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 50June 4, 2024 11:03 PM

R46, The Law of Attraction is much more than the teachings of The Secret or Abraham Hicks. That's the LOA for the masses.

by Anonymousreply 51June 5, 2024 11:37 AM

In my experience, people who believe in stuff like this simply change their expectations when they don’t get a desired result. “I realized I didn’t want to have a baby after all.”

by Anonymousreply 52June 5, 2024 2:51 PM

Yes, someone I know is into this. She also calls the psychic hotline!

I agree, only dumb fucks are into this

by Anonymousreply 57December 8, 2024 11:12 PM

R52, BINGO!

I listened to Jennifer Aniston tell me to act like I already have what I want.

I was up for a dream job earlier this year. I envisioned myself doing it, driving in to the work place. Doing the job. Socializing with coworkers.

The guy who could have hired me gave me every reason to believe it was going to happen.

It did not.

A friend suggested, instead, I cast a wide net and let things go and not have expectations. Much better advice.

by Anonymousreply 58December 8, 2024 11:18 PM

So many people are depressed pigs, who want to live in slop, and they hate when anyone else gets outside the barnyard. Why do these posters care so much to come in here and be naysayers? Because they’re miserable and can’t stand anyone else being happy or successful. They are emotional vampires who want everyone else to be miserable with them.

by Anonymousreply 59December 8, 2024 11:18 PM

It’s worked for me. If it’s not working for you, then maybe you have not perfected your thinking.

by Anonymousreply 60December 8, 2024 11:20 PM

Well said R49

by Anonymousreply 61December 8, 2024 11:34 PM

one friend used to laugh and said this shit doesn't work, a friend of hers tried it, now she's following her friend and doing this shit...

by Anonymousreply 62December 8, 2024 11:41 PM

R59 I’m manifesting a hemorrhoid into your ass right now

by Anonymousreply 63December 8, 2024 11:44 PM

R63 ditto

by Anonymousreply 64December 9, 2024 12:53 AM

I'm gonna manifest a winning lotto ticket!!!

by Anonymousreply 65December 9, 2024 2:50 AM

There's going to be some heavy karma to pay.
