My rule for hotness is a guy must have to have at least 2 out of 3 out of face, body, personality.
Alas, poor Ben only fits one of the criteria (for me).
I say 'poor Ben' - I doubt he's losing any sleep over my lack of ardour!

I like his personality. Like Carlitos, he smiles a lot. He looks like he's genuinely happy to be out there.

The poster on the other thread asked what I bet on: I bet on some tennis matches, especially grand slams like RG. You need a lot of tennis knowledge, but it's fairly easy to make some money if you know your stuff. I don't bet a lot of money, and I don't always win. I just think it's fun.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 1, 2024 5:43 PM |
I forgot to say that you have a lot of options: you can bet on the winner of RG, the winner of matches, how many sets each player will win etc.

John McEnroe keeps going on and on about these players doing multiple 5-setters. He was always such a lazy motherfucker when he played. Guys are FIT in 2024, Mac. Playing five sets is nothing to them.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | June 1, 2024 10:18 PM |
McEnroe couldn't even touch his toes during his peak. He admits this in his autobiography (which, if you haven't read, one of the big takeaways is that since the day they met, he's had a perpetual hard-on for Bjorn Borg.)

Just a week ago I didn’t think Djokovic had a shot at defending his title, but now he seems to be playing himself into shape, becoming a legitimate contender. This reminds me of how Serena would sometimes show up at a GS looking terrible, struggle in the first week, and then win the tournament. These all-time greats are definitely a different breed.

Alcaraz won! Felix was injured though.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | June 2, 2024 3:37 PM |
R80 You didn't miss much: Felix had some kind of problem restricting his movement from early in the second set, and from thereon in it was a cakewalk for Carlitos.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | June 2, 2024 3:38 PM |
I'm still picking Ruud. Great results on clay this year, twice a finalist. I think he can break thru.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | June 2, 2024 3:38 PM |
Ons team or Tauons team?
by Anonymous | reply 84 | June 2, 2024 3:42 PM |
After watching last night's match against Etcheverry I would tend to agree. Once he got into his strife he blasted past Tomy, who was playing very well.
No-one's looked unbeatable so far: Zverev was wobbling massively against Griekspoor, idem Novaxx against Musetti; Stefanos looks good but beatable, and Carlitos hasn't really been tested as yet.

by Anonymous | reply 91 | June 2, 2024 6:47 PM |
FAA was probably never going beat Alcaraz, but I read something about him getting injured early in the second set and essentially limped to the finish - thus the beatdown score rather than losing with a more competitive score.

by Anonymous | reply 96 | June 2, 2024 7:54 PM |

If Moutet now bagels Sinner, it's all on you R88
by Anonymous | reply 97 | June 2, 2024 7:55 PM |
Well for those of us who can't watch, what's going on? Is this French guy winning or is Sinner choking?
by Anonymous | reply 98 | June 2, 2024 8:11 PM |
Moutet wins first set.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | June 2, 2024 8:14 PM |
R98 a bit of both - Moutet's just throwing all kinds of improvised shit into the mix and confusing Sinner. At the back end of the set, Sinner started to get his serve back and get things back under control.
If this was best of three I think Moutet could have a chance, but not over 5. Anyway, it looks like I should be entertaining, at least.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | June 2, 2024 8:17 PM |
"Well for those of us who can't watch, what's going on? Is this French guy winning or is Sinner choking? "
Moutet is playing better than he ever has. He's small and super mobile, so getting every ball back that he can - which is a lot. He's a lefty which is always a different look. He's playing super high energy and fearless, and throwing everything at Sinner - hard winners, high loopers, slices, drop shots, under hand serves. He's just playing well and taking away Sinner's rhythm and also planting a tiny seed of doubt. It's like he did a couple lines of coke before coming out.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | June 2, 2024 8:28 PM |
Fingers crossed for Jannik to get through along with Carlitos and Ruud to the semis. Here's to the quick demise of Novaxx, Ratface, Screaming Brat, Foutet and Maria Callas.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | June 2, 2024 8:41 PM |
Jannik will most likely get through. All due credit to Moutet, but it's very difficult to maintain what he did in the first set for a full best of five match against a Sinner-caliber opponent. Plus even if Moutet did keep playing at a very high level, Sinner's "shock" will dissipate and he can make adjustments.

Sinner has grown on me. He's respectful, personable, humble, and has a dry and playful sense of humor when interviewed. I'd rather have that than a "hottie" whose personality makes you want to punch him in the face.

I think he is a regular 20something who very quietly maintains a harem but has a PR army behind him pushing his wholesome image.
Case in point: the ATP instagram account asked some of the guys what they were passionate about. Most answered video games, sports teams, sleeping, etc. Sinner's answer: my family. Come on. He's being fed lines but wait until the mask slips.

Tall and thin, an already "mature" face. He's not my type, but I think R131 is right; he'll age well. Though, if he loses his hair, it could get dicey. I don't think he has the face for very short hair or bald.

Regardless of how you feel about Sinner's looks, only a few scenarios will keep him from being the new #1: A) Sinner loses to Dimitrov and Djokovic makes it to the finals. B) Sinner loses in the semis and Djokovic takes the title. C) Sinner loses to Djokovic in the final.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | June 3, 2024 2:45 AM |

R133 He also plays really boring tennis. Alcaraz plays the most exciting tennis imo. Too bad it's so error-prone. He tends to make a lot of unforced errors. Sinner plays cleaner tennis, and has a better serve, so he usually wins. However, I'd rather watch Alcaraz's aggressive, fun, error-prone tennis than Sinner's boring "perfect" tennis. Sorry, it's just my opinion. Another reason I dislike Sinner is because he has ZERO personality. He rarely ever smiles. Ever. Alcaraz smiles all the time. He even cries sometimes when he loses. He shows his emotions. It's very refreshing and I think that's why fans connect with him. He has that x factor, a bubbly personality and he plays aggressive, fun tennis. Sinner might perform better, and end up with more slams (he probably will tbh), but I don't think he'll ever be as popular or have as many fans as Alcaraz. He lacks the x factor. People will respect Sinner and his accomplishments, but that's it.

I looked up the head to head: 11 matches, 3 Sabs, 8 Iga. I take the pretty Polish girl. (well they're both pretty but I love Iga, though I appear to be the only one here who does)
Aryna 26 years old and 6ft. Iga is 23 and 5'9" - hmm. I didn't know Aryna was that old.

I do find it amusing that RG makes no apologies for their flagrant prioritizing of the men over the women in their scheduling. Whether the women are on first, third, or omitted from the night session, it sends The Tennis Podcast into fits of high dudgeon.

Amelie Mauresmo really is nothing but a figurehead. I bet she has absolutely no decision-making power in her role as tournament director. I’m not sure that James Blake, Tommy Haas or Feliciano Lopez do much more, but Amelie should be embarrassed as a woman “running” a grand slam tournament.

DEMON!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 162 | June 3, 2024 3:19 PM |
R161 I can't speak to her level of oversight but as tournament director, she is privy to both hard and anecdotal data about what is driving box office, viewership, and overall engagement on the ground. She knows that women's tennis is at a low point in popularity and star power, but it's not her primary job to turn that around - that's on the WTA. She'd be doing a poor job if she wasn't optimizing the schedule to showcase the matches people actually want to see. There are definitely structural changes that can be made at the margins to equalize the playing field more so these discrepancies aren't as blatant. But the hard truth is that, at least at this moment, casual fans prefer watching the men. The stadium optics alone make that abundantly clear.

Reading up, it looks like NoVaxx will need at least 2-3 months recovery time - even if he has surgery - for a meniscus tear. Bye-bye Wimbledon and the Olympics.
by Anonymous | reply 246 | June 4, 2024 4:53 PM |
The last RG men's finals without either Nadal or Djokovic go all the way back to 2004 (Gaudio d. Coria) and 2009 (Federer d. Soderling).
by Anonymous | reply 247 | June 4, 2024 4:54 PM |
I wonder whether Djokovic will regret playing on in the Cerundolo match, if it's made the tear much worse than it would have been.
I don't know what the long term effects are, but it might be possible that it permanently inhibits his ability to play his aggressive game style - with the aggressive slides etc?
by Anonymous | reply 248 | June 4, 2024 5:08 PM |
R244 I would love that too, but I sadly don't see him beating Sinner or Alcaraz.
by Anonymous | reply 249 | June 4, 2024 5:27 PM |
R249. Agree. Ruud does not seem to have it. I guess whoever wins the Sinner/Alcaraz quarter will be the heavy favorite.
by Anonymous | reply 250 | June 4, 2024 5:31 PM |
R246 Not necessarily. Taylor Fritz had the same exact injury at Roland Garros, had surgery, and played Wimbledon. Apparently it's a pretty easy surgery/injury to recover. It all depends on the extent of the tear.

[quote] I used to subscribe to the TC app, but then I realized it excludes everything on broadcast TC.
It's ridiculous that tennis fans in the US have to juggle so many apps to keep up with the sport. I'm in and out of Sling (for the Tennis Channel), TC Channel Plus, and ESPN+ depending on the tournament, and Peacock half-assedly tries to get it on the action sometimes, too.
by Anonymous | reply 305 | June 5, 2024 8:13 PM |
The French Open is particularly bad. The other Slams, ESPN+ will get it done for the most part.
For the French Open, you need Tennis Channel via your cable subscription or FuboTV or Sling (no longer on Youtube TV) or Tennis Channel Plus (which only has a $100+ yearly option) and Peacock. Some of it is broadcast on regular NBC, but they'll stop coverage at the end of the predetermined window and you might have to finish a match on Peacock. If you want coverage of every court - you need to have TC+.

Didn't now ADM was Uruguayan and Spanish and holds dual Aussie and Spanish citizenship.
by Anonymous | reply 309 | June 5, 2024 9:51 PM |
Now you do.

Zverev seems to be especially careful about his temper and temperament while the assault trial is being held behind closed doors.

Meanwhile, Mauresmo again consigned the women’s matches to the early part of the day (and attendance for the first match is always terrible because RG sells tickets that come with lunch, so everyone eats first).
And both women’s matches, especially the second one, where much more compelling than the men’s match in the evening slit.
by Anonymous | reply 322 | June 5, 2024 11:16 PM |
R320, he has improved a lot in the last year.
by Anonymous | reply 323 | June 5, 2024 11:25 PM |
What is the expected timing of the conclusion of the A. Zverev trial? It would be a weird coincidence if he wins his first major title while a court finds him guilty.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | June 6, 2024 12:04 AM |
I think the Zverev trial/hearing was supposed to be spread over many weeks. Don’t think a verdict is imminent. Maybe late June/early July is I recall correctly.

PAOLINI because she's 28; SWIATEK cause I got a crush.
RUUD because of his adorable aw-shucksness; SINNER because I just can't get into Alcaraz - coarse features - and is Accutane not used anymore? Sinner edges him, but the looks are in the other semi.

Now on to the match of the day- Jasmine vs. Mira.
by Anonymous | reply 344 | June 6, 2024 4:22 PM |
Unfortunately, the results of Coco vs Iga match was not unexpected.
Coco was right on that out call, though. It was called out BEFORE she hit the ball. She is allowed to hit the ball at that point.
by Anonymous | reply 345 | June 6, 2024 4:39 PM |
Mirra looks like she's overwhelmed by the occasion. Jasmine very solid.

My only hope is for a glitch in The IGA-bot's middleware during the match which causes it to bludgeon itself to pieces with its racquet following a double fault.

Haha. It does.

The Ratfaced Cunt is so pathetic, he even 'cheated' the coin toss before his match against Demon. FFS.
by Anonymous | reply 355 | June 6, 2024 8:28 PM |
I’m not a particular Iga fan either but you’ve got to respect the fact that her game, particularly on clay, is absolutely amazing. Look how young she is and how successful she’s been. She’s apparently a very quiet and introverted person off the court. I just think people don’t like her because she’s so focused and so good and not particularly attractive.
by Anonymous | reply 356 | June 6, 2024 11:10 PM |
A friend of mine thinks she's 'on the spectrum'. I dunno. She's quiet and she has great talent so I like her.
by Anonymous | reply 357 | June 6, 2024 11:12 PM |
She seems perfectly normal and pleasant off court and in interviews. She's just one of those just business type players on court, like Graf. She doesn't strike me as being on the spectrum.
by Anonymous | reply 358 | June 7, 2024 12:20 AM |
Someone would have to propose to her on court for us to know that.
by Anonymous | reply 360 | June 7, 2024 12:28 AM |
Alcaraz (Garfia) team or Il Gingio team?
Wuud team or A. Zverev team?
by Anonymous | reply 361 | June 7, 2024 1:26 AM |
R357, FFS diagnosing a person they don't know based on watching them play tennis...okay, then...
by Anonymous | reply 362 | June 7, 2024 1:29 AM |
Sveeoncheck is a great champ. People seem to only dislike her because she never loses her composure on the court like a Serena or McEnroe or pretend off court to have some sort of mental illness like Osaka. I’m rooting for Paoloni though because I’d love to see an underdog story in the ladies side.
Hoping for a Gingio / Ruud final. Zverev is a garbage human, and I don’t know what it is about Garfia that chaps my hide, but I’ve never been able to get into his corner.
by Anonymous | reply 363 | June 7, 2024 3:56 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 367 | June 7, 2024 7:42 AM |
Zverev settled. I think he's guilty. Several women have come forward, not just one. I don't think they would lie. Maybe one would lie, but two? Nah. Not likely. I also saw the way he was treating the female umpire in that one match. He talked down to her, disrespecting her, was borderline verbally abusing her. He even grabbed her arm or something. It just looks like he doesn't respect women at all. He seems like a misogynistic asshole. So yeah, I think he did it. I think he's guilty.
by Anonymous | reply 368 | June 7, 2024 1:06 PM |
The only good thing about him winning major tournaments will be more scrutiny and pressure on the various organizations who have turned a blind eye thus far. Luckily for them he usually loses in the semis but winning a grand slam will bring all sorts of bad headlines.

Tennis Talk/Cam Williams said Alcaraz should never have let Sinner win that 3rd set while having hand cramps. Weird mental stuff going on with our little Carlitos? Sinner's mental game is pretty strong (the best in the game?)
by Anonymous | reply 374 | June 7, 2024 4:09 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 375 | June 7, 2024 4:10 PM |
Sinner has overwhelmed Alacaraz at times with his power, which is tough to do.

Paolini has also reached the finals in doubles, with Errani.
by Anonymous | reply 377 | June 7, 2024 4:13 PM |
It’s doubles match!
by Anonymous | reply 379 | June 7, 2024 4:30 PM |
Although he comes off as grounded, amiable, and mature beyond his years, I think Sinner is low-key diabolical and a stealth decadent. In another time, he'd be one of Luchino Visconti's kept boys.
by Anonymous | reply 380 | June 7, 2024 4:40 PM |

What does "the dub" mean? (I thought it meant sinning a 3 set-max match in two ??
by Anonymous | reply 385 | June 7, 2024 5:51 PM |
* winning (not sinning)
by Anonymous | reply 386 | June 7, 2024 5:51 PM |

I like the way you think, r380. I can see Sinner in an old Visconti flick, probably sitting on a throne as he eyes one of his (male) courtiers and demands they come to his chamber that night.

Nauseating.
Zverev should have been banned for good after Acapulco. And settling that assault case reeks of guilt.

I wonder if the TNT / Max deal takes away just the NBC / Peacock coverage, or also the Tennis Channel coverage? Because that's a huge loss for TC. It's the only Slam they do full, live coverage of. ESPN has the other three. Can anyone tell, from the articles?

See? We all have questions in life.
But more seriously, the articles aren't clear. I'm finding a Reddit thread that suggests TNT takes the whole thing. I guess that's true. Big loss for TC.
by Anonymous | reply 421 | June 8, 2024 1:48 AM |
This article says TC has had a sublicensing deal with NBC, and it's not clear yet whether it will remain in place.
by Anonymous | reply 422 | June 8, 2024 1:51 AM |
It would have taken R421 all of 20 seconds to find the answer. But he was on Reddit.

WB controls all tv rights now, in both Europe and the US—via Eurosport and Turner.

What a crock it will be if after we've celebrated Djokovic's departure, the second most hated player takes the title. Gaslighting from the sardonic tennis gods.
by Anonymous | reply 479 | June 9, 2024 4:58 PM |
OMG 2 sets to 1. At least he's making it a horse race. If it had been straight sets, the ordinary viewers who don't know Zverev from a zebra would be switching off and calling tennis a snooze.
by Anonymous | reply 480 | June 9, 2024 5:02 PM |
They've been playing for three hours, someone will get tired.
by Anonymous | reply 481 | June 9, 2024 5:04 PM |
I'd take a snooze over a travesty any time.
by Anonymous | reply 482 | June 9, 2024 5:07 PM |
Man bun bounces the ball a lot before serving, Djokovic does that, too. It would get on my nerves but the opponent probably just blocks that sound out.
by Anonymous | reply 483 | June 9, 2024 5:10 PM |
R482 But tennis has been tanking in popularity so they need excitement no matter how psychopathic the players. I mean, they loved that jerk McEnroe.
Anyway, I was watching Gil Gross or somebody who said the networks don't like showing tennis because it's too hard to predict how long the matches will be so scheduling is a nightmare.
by Anonymous | reply 484 | June 9, 2024 5:12 PM |
Oh dear, trainer working on Alcaraz. Medical time out! Groin pull.
by Anonymous | reply 485 | June 9, 2024 5:19 PM |
If I was that trainer, I would not resist, and my head would be down on that crotch before you could say "VAMOS!!!!"
by Anonymous | reply 486 | June 9, 2024 5:21 PM |
Back playing already! Maybe not serious. He just ran for a drop shot.
by Anonymous | reply 487 | June 9, 2024 5:24 PM |
His hefty cock is straining the inside of his leg.
by Anonymous | reply 488 | June 9, 2024 5:25 PM |
Does Zverev have any prominent moles?
by Anonymous | reply 489 | June 9, 2024 5:26 PM |
On his soul, R489. On his soul.
by Anonymous | reply 490 | June 9, 2024 5:28 PM |
Zverev's entire existence is a mole on humanity.
by Anonymous | reply 491 | June 9, 2024 5:29 PM |
Buckle up, bitches. Final set incoming!
by Anonymous | reply 494 | June 9, 2024 5:41 PM |
The wheels have come off Zeverev’s game.
by Anonymous | reply 495 | June 9, 2024 5:51 PM |
I know they all look at their camps, but I always think it's a bad sign when they look desperately at their box after **every** missed shot, as Zverev is doing now. Feels like Carlos has got this.
by Anonymous | reply 497 | June 9, 2024 5:54 PM |
so freaking awkward when John McEnroe kissed Mary Carillo in the middle of the set break, and not really explaining what the heck was happening, that NBC was ending its coverage. Why is he so clumsy and awkward on TV? He's been doing it forever. Really horrendous.
by Anonymous | reply 498 | June 9, 2024 5:58 PM |
R458, at least he praised Carlitos' body early in the match. True to form.
by Anonymous | reply 499 | June 9, 2024 5:59 PM |

So he just has to win the Aussie in January to have one of each!
by Anonymous | reply 507 | June 9, 2024 6:33 PM |
Zverev's look on his face when sitting down while Carlos was celebrating with his team looked like he seriously knew this was karma.

3X Grand Slam Champion @ just 21, now.
A Slam on grass, clay and hard court.
Carlitos is well on his way to becoming one of the the greats.

by Anonymous | reply 512 | June 9, 2024 6:37 PM |
I doubt that Novaxx's record is of any interest to Carlos. He's just not the type of person to be motivated by that. He wants to enjoy playing and entertain.
He clearly loves to win, but he doesn't have that obsessive drive.
by Anonymous | reply 513 | June 9, 2024 6:40 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 514 | June 9, 2024 6:43 PM |
Zverev always looks like he’s about to cry, but I think his eyebrows contribute to that affect.
by Anonymous | reply 515 | June 9, 2024 6:43 PM |
And with his 3rd GS title, Alcaraz knocks Djokovic down to #3 in the rankings. Very possibly NoVaxx won't make it to the ATP Finals this year.

Nice of NBC to give us Zverev's speech. Oh wait...
by Anonymous | reply 517 | June 9, 2024 6:51 PM |

He's also the youngest to get 3 majors on different surfaces. I think Rafa was next youngest.

Despite winning, Djokovic knew he was yesterday's news when he won against cramping Carlos in that FO semi-final. Everybody knew Carlos would ghave won save for his amateur error of dehydration. Djoko has been moping ever since, regardless of ensuing victories.

Zvereva actually went on to beat Graf during her career. A small consolation to being drubbed 0 and 0 in 40 minutes in front of a worldwide audience, but still.

R546 The ATP lucked out with Alcaraz. Not only does he play really fun tennis, he also has a really sweet personality. You can just tell he's a kind person. I love how he always smiles. He has the x-factor. I don't hate Sinner, I even think Sinner has more potential than Alcaraz in the long run. But Sinner does not have the sweet, bubbly personality Alcaraz has, and personally I'm not a fan of his tennis. I think Alcaraz's tennis is a lot more fun to watch. Anyways, I agree. Tennis is in good hands with Alcaraz.
by Anonymous | reply 555 | June 10, 2024 6:02 AM |
I liked the final, it wasn't a slam dunk. Zevereva did well, kept it interesting but I assumed Alcaraz would win since he's just that good.

Agreed with 555. Carlos loves to play and it shows. His shots are, most of the time, amazing, a pleasure to watch and he enjoys himself so much out there that it is a true pleasure to watch. Jannik is great but boring.

The TNT news about covering Roland Garros is now official. I'm a little sad for Tennis Channel - they won't have live coverage of any Slams, right? But Max will have live streaming of all matches! That is pretty great.
"All live matches available on Max – nearly 900 matches across all competitions – including simulcasts of matches airing on TNT, TBS and truTV"

I would love it if Max took over Wimbledon, Aussie, US Open as well. It would be very economical for me, especially if the camera lingers on hot guys during changeovers. That would be divine. As it is now, I buy ESPN Plus for one month during the slams. I'm considering the ATP tennis streaming service.

by Anonymous | reply 583 | June 13, 2024 1:18 AM |
How can Boss Daddy Fritz NOT be playing. I don't think Stuttgart is actually called the Boss Open but Boss is a major sponsor and those huge "BOSS" signs are around the court.
by Anonymous | reply 584 | June 13, 2024 1:24 AM |
R581, FYI, ATP channel doesn't show Slams. You very well might know that, but just in case. I've purchased ATP Channel on occasion and have been happy. This year they had a Sunshine Double special where it was only $7.50 for a month - half price. Now regular price may be $16 or $17 per month.
I'm SO looking forward to ESPN+ for Wimbledon.

ESPN+ (it was ESPN3 back then) amazingly used to be free for the slams maybe 10 years ago - and it was free for several years. Everything but the center courts were free to watch. And there were no commercials either - the feed was live and uninterrupted which lead to some great video of shirtless players during changeovers. All the outer courts had a devoted channel and were shown throughout the day.
They probably thought who'd want to watch a match on court 15 at Wimbledon featuring players ranked outside the top 50 or some doubles matches. Why bother chargin for something no one would watch? It turned out lots of people were interested and ESPN saw that there was money to be squeezed out of people.
Of course all good things come to an end. Now everything requires subscriptions on top of subscriptions, some courts are not shown at all, and they jam tons of commericals into the coverage now.
