Fellow Gays and Lesbians, please tell me about Newport, Rhode Island. I want to visit and potentially move to Newport.
How is Newport better/worse than Providence? Boston?

The majority of the women there are named Bunny.

You can't afford it.

In Newport all seems to breathe freedom and peace, and to make one forget the world and all its sad turmoils.

Do they have the obnoxious Rhode Island accents?

Happen to go there last year for the first time. And happen to fuck an officer in the Navy there for some training or another.
It’s very much a navy town with some rich folks around for god knows what reason. Like any RI town, it looks rough as hell and has homeless people all too happy to yell random shit at you.
Yes, the mansion train will be fine and tourist friendly but the rest would make you wonder if the twine was really ever a bastion of some of the world’s most wealthy people. It’s like going to Dubai and it looking like Toledo. I suppose the town has charm, but you can find manicured lawn, with relevant wealth a few hours east in Cape Cod.

Native Rhode Islander here.
Yes, Newport is nice to visit in the warmer months. But keep in mind that the year-round population is only 25K. It's a really small city. In the winter, the average temps are in the 30s and it rains a lot (annual snowfall averages under 18"). More rain falls in Newport per year (47 inches) than in Seattle (39 inches).
It's on an island, so there are toll bridges if you want to do anything off Aquidneck Island. Providence is at the other end of the state (about an hour's drive).
I love Newport. But I could never live there.

R9 I like the rain and don't want a little snowfall

Wasn't this the Newport Symphony the actor David Ogden Stiers conducted for years and years after M*A*S*H?
Or was he in Providence?

Newport was.
Boston is, sort of.
Providence never was.

Newport is a great tour of the gilded age mansions.

Jamestown, across the bay, has more soul.

R16 Yes, I always think of The Age of Innocence; they summered all of August in Newport
