How long will the right remain ascendant?

Obviously, the right wing is having a moment right now. They are enjoying the fruits of their long, hard efforts to take over our courts and capitalize on our un-democratic approach to federalism.

But it wasn’t always this way. Not even 10 years ago, it seemed like the left was ascendant with no end in sight.

Obviously, we overplayed our hands. And eventually, the right will overplay theirs as well. But how long is it gonna be?

It won't matter.

Because if Trump becomes President, he will become our dictator.

He and his cronies will suspend future elections, and they will declare martial law.

Our Democracy will be no more.

Have you not been paying attention?

Oh lord. Stop. Power changes hands all the time. Stop your fucking whining.

That was before Trump.

You'll see.

And I'll revisit this thread to prove to you how wrong you were.

Trump and republicans know they no longer have the numbers. They're peddling hard to figure out a way to keep power and they know voting won't work for them. They're going to find a way.

by Anonymousreply 4May 28, 2024 12:18 AM

I'm not sure they're ascendant now. The White House and the Senate are both held by Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 5May 28, 2024 12:21 AM

Uh, only one branch of three is currently controlled by the right. Congress is mixed. And the White House is under Dem control.

by Anonymousreply 6May 28, 2024 12:25 AM

Yeah. Republicans really aren't doing that great when you look at the races they've lost. And then to push through the Abortion ban thinking the country is swinging wide right. Wrong. The country is swinging more to the middle. Congress is a joke and they're so close to losing even that and they very well might. Trump fatigue is real. People are beginning to realize he's not really gonna put more money in their pockets.

Ascendant off a cliff

by Anonymousreply 8May 28, 2024 12:35 AM

The Supreme Court knowingly stole the 2000 election for GWB. They knew he didnt win. They’ll hand it over to Trump as soon as they get the chance. .

by Anonymousreply 9May 28, 2024 12:36 AM

I will say this once again, and loudly so even the back of the room can hear it. This isn't the "right ascending." This isn't basic politics or a normal swing of the politcal pendulum. This is a coordinated 50-year plan for theocracy - Dominionists.

They have been fruitful with their birthrate, built law schools supporting their position, appointed judges, and recruited lawmakers and now the Supreme Court to implement the plan. They know Trump is an idiot but he's a useful idiot and he'll let them get their way. Then likely dispose of him when they can.

From John Birch to homeschooling to Liberty University Law School to the Duggars to Mike Johnson - it was a coordinated, multifaceted plan devised and executed with religious fervor that can now be implemented due to activist theocratic Supreme Court judges and lawmakers.

We're doomed. We really are.

R10 Can I have your stuff?

Consider the arc of the right wing in the early 20th century, which ebbed and flowed, reaching a horrifying crescendo in the 1930s through the 1950s. In particular, in Europe, it didn't stop until it had completely destroyed its host societies (think the Axis nations), having had to be put down by violent means. It's possible the same may happen to us.

We won't be able to make a guess as to how this will go until this coming November. If Trump gets back into the White House, it will be the political equivalent of the groundhog seeing its shadow, and there'll probably be another couple of decades of fascism, culminating in atrocities.

by Anonymousreply 12May 28, 2024 12:55 AM

if the Democrats take the Senate and House then if Trump wins he will not be able to do any damage. He will spend 4 years being a lame-duck president.

[quote]Obviously, we overplayed our hands.

Obviously, that makes no sense.

Shitty racist morons are everywhere and the brain dead voters refused to come out for Hillary because of Bernie/Misogyny/Right Wing conspiracies and now Roe is gone!

See how fast-working ignorance and stupidity work when people stay home on election day!
