But yeah, there are more Christians who want to ban pride flags, so it's not just the Muslims. And many say "well, at least Christians wouldn't throw you off a roof for being gay!" Yet I wouldn't be surprised if some fundies would do that if they thought they could get away with it.

I work with a couple of Muslims. I assume one is less fundamentalist than the other, as one doesn't wear a headscarf while the other does. They were both born and raised here (I live in the UK) and I know they have no open problem with gay people because they'll regularly inquire about my partner and I - eg on a Monday asking what we did at the weekend. If they weren't keen on my being gay, I think they'd just never ask about my personal life. I appreciate that's just an anecdote, but Islamophobia affects all Muslims, including those who aren't as the right wing would have us believe.

Yes there will always be more fundamentalist religious people, but I honestly think most just want to get on with their lives and aren't that bothered what consenting adults do, even if they don't necessarily 'approve'.

In the UK gay rights are a settled issue for the overwhelming majority of the public. At the moment British Muslims are obsessed with Jews and Zionists but the gays aren't forgotten.

Sex education in schools is an issue mainly because of the trans ideology being pushed onto kids and drag queen story hour stuff. I think some of the officials at the City of Hamtramck and other homophobes around Michigan are annoyed because on a state level Michigan's legislature expanded the Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act to give civil right protections to LGBT communities. The linked article below details the expansion. There had been attempts for years to expand the ELCRA to the LGBT communities for years, the attempts stalled in the legislature because the Republicans controlled the legislature for many years. When Democrats got control of the state house and state senate in 2023 they were able to get bills passed to expand ELCRA. There are several LGBT people serving as state legislators and that probably has to piss off the homophobes as well.

And it gets a lot of international traffic during major Islamic holidays. We basically have a mini-Mecca here in Michigan.
