Derek Jacobi
Despite growing up working class parents in Essex, he reached the upper echelons of acting when he defined Hamlet for a generation.
Off stage, he is a reliable character actor on film- Othello, The Last Day of the Jackal, The Medusa Touch, The Human Factor, The Secret Life of NIMH, Little Dorrit, Henry V, Dead Again, The Fool, Hamlet, Up at the Villa, Gladiator, Gosford Park, Charles Dickens' England, The Kings Speech, My Week with Marilyn, Tolkien, and many more.
But, he is best known for his tour de force performance in the internationally acclaimed I, Claudius.
Derek Jacobi is one of Britain's greatest actors and deserves more appreciation/recognition.
