Does anyone here subscribe to YouTube TV?

$72 a month is OUTRAGEOUS. I mean...do you get movies, TV shows, music AND porn? What the fuck?

by Anonymousreply 63December 19, 2024 2:20 AM

It does seem very expensive. Even the base plan is $57.99 a month which doesn't include sports or add-on networks (like AMC, Max, MGM+, Starz, etc).

I'm in the UK and we don't get YouTube TV here, but we do have a service called Now, which is effectively all the Sky content, and includes many HBO shows, plus new movies. I get that for around £10 ($12.72 USD) a month.

by Anonymousreply 1May 23, 2024 11:28 AM

R1 See THAT'S reasonable. I would gladly add that to my already ridiculous list of streaming services.

But FUCK YTV

by Anonymousreply 2May 23, 2024 11:31 AM

I have it. Yes, I wish it was cheaper, but it’s still less than I was paying for cable with those Xfinity fuckers. Plus, I have more channels, unlimited DVR, etc. I also ditched Xfinity internet and switched to T-Mobile. For TV and internet, my Xfinity bill had crept up to $250. Fuck that. I’m now paying around $135 a month.

by Anonymousreply 3May 23, 2024 11:43 AM

Same as R3. I also looked at Hulu tv but it was around the same price.

by Anonymousreply 4May 23, 2024 12:13 PM

Well mine is 110 and includes the internet. I've gotten rid of everything else including local and network channels. I was paying close to $200 and I never watched them. I miss my French and Italian channels. But then I would have to get the entire package all over again and then add those two. So I watch whatever is available on you tube.

by Anonymousreply 5May 23, 2024 12:22 PM

Much like everyone else posting. I have it and like it, for the most part.

Much cheaper than what I was paying to Xfinity.

My major issue with it....and it sounds petty, but it drives me insane....is the alphabetize shows in your DVR by "The."

I actually wrote them a REAL letter to complain. I got a very nice letter back saying they would take my suggestion into consideration.

Maybe I'm nuts.

by Anonymousreply 6May 23, 2024 12:30 PM

^ Funny, I have the same petty annoyance. At work we have hundreds of corporate clients, and for some reason TPTB insist on listing them alphabetically using "The" too. So of course, co-workers are always wondering why they can't find so-and-so when in a hurry. SMDH

by Anonymousreply 7May 23, 2024 1:05 PM

I subscribe to YouTube premium- for at least four years now. It was $9.99 a month but now it’s $11.99-it’s expensive but I’m on YouTube every day so for me it’s worth not having to endure the commercials.

by Anonymousreply 8May 23, 2024 1:56 PM

Same, r8. In Australia it's more like $15 or $17 a month.

It seems like a lot to just get regular youtube without ads, but the ads are so annoying and often that it's worth it.

by Anonymousreply 9May 23, 2024 2:11 PM

I have YouTube premium as well- it includes YouTube Music so you can listen in your car, and when I can’t find anything to watch, it generates hundreds of short films suggested by my previous history, so it’s all good.

by Anonymousreply 10May 23, 2024 2:14 PM

I have YouTubeTV. I ditched cable and so far I like YTTV much better. While cable had more channels, I didn't use 90% of them. YTTV has TCM, four different local PBS channels, and all of the other major locals in my area. It has an unlimited cloud DVR, and you can watch your DVR content (or any YTTV stuff) on any device--unlike cable, which was restricted to the cable box I recorded it on. I looked at Hulu+ and decided on YTTV since I already get Hulu (regular) free with my Spotify subscription.

So far the only downside is that it won't record certain programs--and in one case it wouldn't even allow me to WATCH a program ("Little Shop of Horrors" on TCM). I guess it has to do with rights.

by Anonymousreply 11May 23, 2024 2:16 PM

I occasionally will look at YouTubeTV, Hulu Live TV, etc. channel lineups - 99% of the channels I have no interest in - same reason why I cut cable TV years ago. They can give me 500 channels, but if I only occasionally watch 3 channels there is no value. It is further complicated in my house as my partner is Latino and needs some Spanish-language options and they can be limited or for additional $$$ add-on packages. We have Univision as a streaming option since that seems to be a must have for him.

by Anonymousreply 12May 23, 2024 2:31 PM

{quote]My major issue with it....and it sounds petty, but it drives me insane....is the alphabetize shows in your DVR by "The."

This may sound petty, but it's "they" not "the."

Doesn't anyone proofread anymore?

by Anonymousreply 13May 23, 2024 2:36 PM

It is not YouTube's fault it is greedy networks who all think their channels are worth gold. Like Viacom. You have to get all the Viacom channels in a package like MTV, mtv2 etc...so it drives up the cost.

by Anonymousreply 14May 23, 2024 2:43 PM

[quote]I'm in the UK and we don't get YouTube TV here

Not available outside the U.S., YouTube says. I just checked the other day out of curiosity to see what it was about, but for$60-72/month, I hope it offers a lot.

In Spain, YouTube Premium (incl. YouTube Music, my preferred music source) is €10/month ($10.82 USD). Now if only they would do something about the lousy search and save process, and allow some choice of autoplay options.

I subscribe to YouTube Premium €10 + Netflix €9 + Max €4 + Filmin €4 + 120 channels & Amazon Prime for €70 (but the last is part of a bundled service that includes 5GB internet/unlimited service for 2 mobiles) = €97/mo. but with a lot of non-TV costs. Much cheaper individually and combined that what I paid in the U.S.

by Anonymousreply 15May 23, 2024 4:00 PM

Get an antenna and subscribe monthly to streaming services.

by Anonymousreply 16May 23, 2024 4:41 PM

Exactly, r12.

by Anonymousreply 17May 23, 2024 4:42 PM

[quote]Doesn't anyone proofread anymore?

R13 Well, you clearly don't, because you missed that you'd messed up your quote!

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

by Anonymousreply 18May 23, 2024 5:05 PM

This is scary. I’m paying Xfinity a lot less than other people here. So much less that it just has to be a promo rate that’s going to explode without notice someday. Oh, well. Shit like that has taught me to look at all my bank activity every day, so I’ll be ready to ditch ‘em when the time comes. (I used to think opting for paperless automatic bill payment had left me free to not think about bills; I was so wrong.)

by Anonymousreply 19May 23, 2024 5:17 PM

Anything having to do with Google is outlandish. I run from that enterprise like the wind, every time I find out they're involved with anything I do online.

by Anonymousreply 20May 23, 2024 5:19 PM

[quote] Doesn't anyone proofread anymore?

Glass houses, dearie. You mistyped the quote settings.

by Anonymousreply 21May 23, 2024 11:07 PM

[quote]Anything having to do with Google is outlandish. I run from that enterprise like the wind, every time I find out they're involved with anything I do online.

YouTubeTV is priced competitively with other comprehensive streaming services, like Hulu+.

by Anonymousreply 22May 24, 2024 12:06 AM

r19 Same here. I pay Xfinity only $25/month (tax included) for high speed internet in Massachusetts (Taxachusetts!) I believe this is a promo rate that will double after two year.

But stilI pay Verizon 4x that when I am home in NY for “faster” fiber service which is indistinguishable from the normal cable service I get in Massachusetts.

by Anonymousreply 23May 24, 2024 12:23 AM

Oh, R23, what a nightmare all this is. It’s like the death of a thousand disappointments.

Something presented to you as “free” to watch, by a service for which you are paying a monthly subscription = that offering will have ads. Lots of ads.

Promo rate = We’ll give you a low-cost taste in the expectation that you’ll be hooked and not notice when it expires because of the convenience of paperless billing

Customer service phone number = a bot that simply cannot be told that you’re not calling about a service interruption in your neighborhood, which you know nothing about and which, if true, is not interrupting your service anyway and is not, therefore, the reason you called

by Anonymousreply 24May 24, 2024 12:39 AM

I spend a lot of time on You Tube and they have a lot of free movies. But I'm still with Xfinity. Our HOA got a deal on high speed internet, so I pay separately for the TV stuff. But what pisses me off is that I also get HBO through Xfinity, I pay for Amazon Prime (with ads) I pay for Netflix and Hulu. Once in a while i'll get a special promo for Starz or Showtime or Paramount + with Showtime, but the subscription I keep and enjoy most is the $4.99 PBS TV through Prime. Lots of great stuff on PBS. But If I tally up all the money I spend on various streaming services, annually it gets scary. I rarely rent movies. And too often I find myself scrolling through all the various selections and can't find anything to watch. I have to figure something out because this is not sustainable.

by Anonymousreply 25May 24, 2024 1:05 AM

I use Sling for $55/month w/50 hours of DVR. I get MSNBC and TCM, the only cable networks I still watch. Bonus, I also get Al Jazeera, BBC news & Sky News, which I watch to see what the MSM is leaving out.

by Anonymousreply 26May 24, 2024 1:16 AM

YouTube Premium for no commercials — okay.

YouTubeTV — you pay a lot more, but no without commercials— nuts.

by Anonymousreply 27May 24, 2024 2:12 AM

[quote] Get an antenna and subscribe monthly to streaming services.

That's exactly what I did. I have a house out in the middle of nowhere I spend 6 months a year at and the rest of the year I live in the city. When I bought the place in the country I was paying $135.00/mo for cable and they were charging me $50.00/mo to maintain my account when I had it turned off for the months I wasn't there. I thought that was outlandish so I eventually canceled cable altogether, bought a powerful antenna (installed it myself on a 50' pole) and was able to use all the former cable connection cables under the house to connect it to. I signed up for Sling TV (now only $40.00/mo). I don't watch a ton of TV and I get every channel I used to enjoy on cable, plus all the local channels from 3 different cities (28 channels at this point) that Sling doesn't carry.

I couldn't be happier.

by Anonymousreply 28May 24, 2024 11:49 AM

R26 - My parents have Sling but they don't get TCM (which my dad is always bitching about). Is it really in your lineup?

by Anonymousreply 29May 24, 2024 12:38 PM

R27- For the $11.99 I pay for YouTube premium it should include all kinds of free movies and TV shows but it does not. It’s really not a good value $11.99 is just to not have to endure seeing commercials for the videos but since I look at YouTube all day every day for me it’s worth it.

by Anonymousreply 30May 24, 2024 2:00 PM

I just signed up for the free trial of YouTube TV. I'm really surprised at just how many commercials there are in each show - a lot!

by Anonymousreply 31May 25, 2024 1:09 AM

R29, yes, if you add the ‘blue’ package. I save a ton of money by not having the sports channels. It means I have to miss tennis, but these darlings are now realistically too young for this 50+ something to lust after.

by Anonymousreply 32May 25, 2024 1:50 AM

R32, I don’t watch tennis (although I always love the pics OPs post here on the tennis threads), but I disagree with your assertion that you’re too old to list after the players!

by Anonymousreply 33May 25, 2024 2:03 AM

r31 If you DVR things, you can FF through the commercials.

by Anonymousreply 34May 25, 2024 3:59 AM

72,00 is a steal, I'm paying 360 with Infinity.

I have it on iPhone and iPad Pro-love it because I’m always on the go.

by Anonymousreply 37November 1, 2024 4:53 PM

Every now and then, when I’ve been sufficiently frustrated by the collective failure of Peacock, Paramount+, and NFL.com to let me watch a Chiefs game, I consider YouTube. Fortunately, at least so far, I’ve been able to remember that since none of them has lived up to their promises there’s little chance that if I pay many times more than I did for any of the others that YouTube would.

by Anonymousreply 38November 1, 2024 5:11 PM

Torrent to the ☁️

10 dollars a month

by Anonymousreply 39November 1, 2024 5:47 PM

I have YouTube premium, which is around $15.00 per month. No commercials. Yes, there's a lot of tracking going on because you're signed in to Google. Anyway, I'm not good at trying to install ad blockers, etc., so this is good for me.

by Anonymousreply 40November 1, 2024 5:49 PM

I switched from Dish to YTTV and am thrilled. Dish was closing in on $200 a month. $75 is a bargain.

by Anonymousreply 41November 1, 2024 5:49 PM

I dropped the cable equivalent a year ago and haven’t missed it all. I had used several over the years, and the last one was Sling, for the price. It’s crazy to pay for so many channels that you never watch. I just use Netflix and swap in and out other streamers for a time when they have a special price.

by Anonymousreply 42November 1, 2024 6:07 PM

We just signed up for YT TV. Not sure I love it. Oddly enough the DVR program synopsis feature SUCKS. Might drop it after the election. Love not being tethered to cable tv any longer.

by Anonymousreply 43November 1, 2024 6:24 PM

I have it and the only thing I watch are home improvement shows.

by Anonymousreply 44November 12, 2024 7:49 PM

Op I pay $120 a month for DIRECTV Streaming. I get all of my Fanduel sports channels.

by Anonymousreply 45November 12, 2024 8:07 PM

R49 YT premium and YT TV are NOT equal

by Anonymousreply 46November 12, 2024 8:08 PM

I have Spectrum (free with my HOA). However, thinking about picking up Netflex (I have stock in the company).

But going back to OP's question. yesterday I saw an ad for $16.99 which would include Hulu, Disney and MAX. You might want to check that out.

by Anonymousreply 47November 12, 2024 8:15 PM

And I also have stocks in Hulu, Disney and MAX.

by Anonymousreply 48November 13, 2024 1:42 AM

Watching TV is so stressful now. I have all these different streaming apps, but almost invariably if there is a movie I want to watch, even an old one, I will have to rent or buy it. Or at best, watch it with commercials.

Most of the time I hear about a worthwhile show or movie to watch on DL. I don’t know how to find that kind of info out these days. Far too many apps.

by Anonymousreply 49November 13, 2024 2:51 AM

R4 I love Hulu Live. All of my favorites, local channels, plus sports and movies.

by Anonymousreply 50November 13, 2024 3:27 AM

For R23: Xfinity normally charges $99.99 for internet service. Be forewarned.

You show me a cable company, I’ll show you a bloodsucker.

by Anonymousreply 51November 13, 2024 4:21 AM

YouTubeTV is going up to $82.99/mo. in January.

by Anonymousreply 52December 12, 2024 5:43 PM

[quote] I love Hulu Live. All of my favorites, local channels, plus sports and movies.

R50, does Hulu live let you rearrange your channel lineup? YouTube TV allows that feature. I'm thinking of switching to Hulu, as YouTube is increasing its price by $10 next month, plus the DVR is too cumbersome than it needs to be.

TIA

by Anonymousreply 53December 12, 2024 6:12 PM

I have not watched TV in years. I just go to the movies where all the fun is at.

I just got rid of my cable box. I never turn that thing on except to watch the Oscars once a year. I have my streamer at home, so I'm good. Don't want vapid crap on my screen anyway.

by Anonymousreply 54December 12, 2024 6:30 PM

Hulu is going to be live-streaming the Oscars for the first time next year.

by Anonymousreply 55December 12, 2024 7:03 PM

Sounds good to me, r55

by Anonymousreply 56December 12, 2024 8:15 PM

So they still have adult theaters in your city?

by Anonymousreply 57December 12, 2024 8:16 PM

OP - I do not subscribe to YouTube tv , however I do pay $11.99 a month for YouTube premium.

by Anonymousreply 58December 12, 2024 8:32 PM

I watch whatever I want free. I don’t know why I’d pay for premium. I watch old movies and tv shows, pet videos, and car crashes.

by Anonymousreply 59December 12, 2024 9:22 PM

I like watching the fart videos on youtube tv.
