Biden likely off the November ballot in Ohio

Ohio House leaders said Tuesday there will probably not be a legislative solution to getting President Joe Biden on the November ballot in Ohio.

Current law says Ohio officials must certify the ballot on Aug. 7, 90 days before the election, but Biden won't be nominated until the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 19.

They're playing brinkmanship, this will be their payback if Trump is found guilty in the Stormy case.

by Anonymousreply 1May 22, 2024 6:08 PM

This is a Supreme Court decision waiting to happen.

by Anonymousreply 2May 22, 2024 6:10 PM

Screw tbe convention.Do a zoom nomination meeting. All the rest, the platforms and wheeling and feeling is bullshit. That’s ego stuff for the participants.

by Anonymousreply 3May 22, 2024 6:16 PM

He'll be on the ballot. Everyone knows this.

by Anonymousreply 4May 22, 2024 6:19 PM

Irrelevant for Biden, but bad for Sherrod Brown.

by Anonymousreply 5May 22, 2024 6:19 PM

LoL, OP, the Dispatch?

by Anonymousreply 6May 22, 2024 6:20 PM

Might this lead to Trump winning the popular vote, while losing the Electoral College, exploding the heads of MAGAts?

by Anonymousreply 7May 22, 2024 6:21 PM

[quote] LoL, OP, the Dispatch?

Why the Dispatch scorn? The Dispatch was founded by Never Trumpers, Jonah Goldberg & Stephen Hayes, both of whom left cushy jobs as contributors to Fox News.

by Anonymousreply 8May 22, 2024 6:23 PM

[quote] Irrelevant for Biden, but bad for Sherrod Brown.

Would it be so bad for Brown to not have Biden at the top of the ticket? And if Republicans have no real incentive to vote if Trump had no major party challenger on the ballot?

by Anonymousreply 9May 22, 2024 6:26 PM

[quote]LoL, OP, the Dispatch?

Who the fuck cares?

Is the story true or not?

by Anonymousreply 10May 22, 2024 6:27 PM

Why is it bad for Brown, since Biden will be on the ballot. Brown has taken off the gloves pretty early. Ohio Dems usually don't attack the opponent. but Brown is slicing first.

Biden will win the popular vote and Trump will win the electoral college again. Mark my words.

by Anonymousreply 12May 22, 2024 6:40 PM

I hear Joe Biden is going to kick Ohio out of the Union and claim presidential immunity

Why not? 🤷‍♂️

by Anonymousreply 13May 22, 2024 6:40 PM

There probably are administrative work arounds----this has been known for quite awhile. OP is either dumb or troll. Probably from Columbus.

by Anonymousreply 14May 22, 2024 6:43 PM

Ah, the COLUMBUS Dispatch. Never mind.

by Anonymousreply 15May 22, 2024 6:45 PM

I think Op is a mistake by the lake

by Anonymousreply 16May 22, 2024 6:59 PM

It just makes the OH GOP look even more petty. Not a vote getter.

by Anonymousreply 17May 22, 2024 7:18 PM

All this stuff is bullshit. No one believes anything anymore. There are no rules. Laws don't apply for Presidents or his minions. At this point, most people I know don't watch or read the news anymore. What's the point?

by Anonymousreply 18May 22, 2024 7:21 PM

Still a battleground state, and the Rethugs are very worried.

I wish, R19. If it were, Biden would be pouring money there, along with the other rustbelt states. And longtime incumbent Sherrod Brown wouldn't be in such a tough reelection campaign against a nonentity, a would-be Trump clone.

[quote]“Ohio is running out of time to get Joe Biden, the sitting president of the United States on the ballot this fall. Failing to do so is simply not acceptable. This is ridiculous. This is an absurd situation,” DeWine said. “The purpose of the session will be for the General Assembly to pass legislation ensuring that both major party presidential candidates will be on the Ohio ballot in November, as well as legislation that would prohibit campaign spending by foreign nationals,” he explained.

No one is above the law. You follow the rules or you get burned. He won't be the first to be left off a ballot because of not following the rules.

by Anonymousreply 26May 24, 2024 2:23 AM

This is just a half assed petty attempt at retaliation against Biden because Colorado, Maine and Illinois tried to have Trump disqualified and removed from their respective ballots.

by Anonymousreply 27May 24, 2024 2:35 AM

Explanation. Republicans will not block Biden being on ballot, but want concessions in return for their action.

The 90 day rule in Ohio became law in 2010, so 13-14 years before the actions in those states.

by Anonymousreply 29May 24, 2024 7:12 AM

They passed an exemption fro Romney in 2012 and for Biden in 2020, but now suddenly nothing can be done. Riiight.

It is a moot point, as noted above. Even Mike DeWine is embarrassed, and that’s no easy task.

by Anonymousreply 32May 28, 2024 9:10 PM

How the fuck can a sitting President not be on the ballot.

by Anonymousreply 33May 28, 2024 9:28 PM

When he is nominated too late. That’s all. It’s been fixed. The end.

by Anonymousreply 34May 28, 2024 9:38 PM

Biden will be on the ballot just like Trump is on the ballot in Colorado.

by Anonymousreply 35May 28, 2024 9:44 PM

Different issue—same result. ^

by Anonymousreply 36May 28, 2024 9:59 PM

[quote] How the fuck can a sitting President not be on the ballot.

Because the party scheduled the national convention without checking first to see what all the state deadlines are for ratifying their nominee for president. Now they’re finally going to do something to formally nominate Biden ahead of the August 7th Ohio deadline, as required by law. It would not have been the first time that a candidate has been kept off a ballot for not following the rules and adhering to the deadlines, although presumably a first for a presidential nominee not to be on a state ballot because of a party missing a filing deadline.

by Anonymousreply 37May 28, 2024 10:02 PM

The last 8 years have truly been a fucking nightmare. Biden isn't perfect but the sooner we can either get rid of Trump or keep him away for another 4 years the better.

by Anonymousreply 38May 28, 2024 10:12 PM

No big deal. This half-dead, meandering, old, has-been will lose this election whether he's on or off a ballot simply because he couldn't swallow some pride and step aside to let another young, electable, qualified democrat lead the party to victory.

by Anonymousreply 39May 28, 2024 10:19 PM

Imagine the upside down and partisan country we are living in. Trump who actually attempted a coup and tried to subvert our democratic process is allowed to be a candidate, but a sitting president with no illegal activity or indictments is being prevented from being on the ballot.

by Anonymousreply 40May 28, 2024 10:52 PM

R40, he’s not being prevented from being on the ballot. On the contrary, the Ohio Secretary of State has been pleading with the Democrats to certify by the deadline the names of their president and vice-president candidates, as both parties are required to by law in order to be on the ballot.

by Anonymousreply 41May 28, 2024 11:50 PM

And who migjt that candidste be, R39.

The Pukes would love Gavin Newsom to run. The current terrible fiscal condition of California would make him the laughing stock of the Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 42May 29, 2024 12:10 AM

The Trumptards are busy widdle beavers today..

by Anonymousreply 43May 29, 2024 12:12 AM

PLEASE shit in my mouth.

by Anonymousreply 44May 29, 2024 12:19 AM

R37 buried the lede—rogue Republican majority refuses basic fix to accommodate convention schedule.

by Anonymousreply 45May 29, 2024 1:19 AM

R41 not even close…

It is customary for the incumbent party to have its convention later, and further to accommodate the tv schedule for the Olympics.

by Anonymousreply 46May 29, 2024 1:23 AM

If this actually happened, couldn't everyone voting for Biden just write him in?
