Clothes smelling musty after being washed and dried

I've cleaned my washing machine. What else could it be?

by Anonymousreply 50May 20, 2024 1:48 AM

You left it in the washer for a day.

by Anonymousreply 1May 19, 2024 1:54 AM

"cleaning" means you removed lint from the filter?

by Anonymousreply 2May 19, 2024 1:56 AM

You’re a whore, darlin’ — scrub all you want, but you’ll never get that white smell out, whore.

by Anonymousreply 3May 19, 2024 2:01 AM

There are special enzyme detergents that supposedly help with the funk that gym clothes can get. Look into that.

by Anonymousreply 4May 19, 2024 2:03 AM

Humidity level is too high in the house if your hanging anything to dry or you need to clean out the vent for your dryer.

by Anonymousreply 5May 19, 2024 2:03 AM

you’re

by Anonymousreply 6May 19, 2024 2:03 AM

Your B.O. is impossible to eradicate.

by Anonymousreply 7May 19, 2024 2:04 AM

Either use Arm and Hammer detergent and/or throw a few cups of baking soda in your main wash. It will help.

by Anonymousreply 8May 19, 2024 2:05 AM

Nacreous layers of permacum. Burn all your clothes and buy new ones.

by Anonymousreply 9May 19, 2024 2:07 AM

City water?

by Anonymousreply 10May 19, 2024 2:09 AM

Use white vinegar in your loads

by Anonymousreply 11May 19, 2024 2:10 AM

Either pre-soak them in baking soda + warm water overnight, or add vinegar as R11 says.

by Anonymousreply 12May 19, 2024 2:16 AM

Just don't use baking soda AND vinegar...they cancel each other out.

by Anonymousreply 13May 19, 2024 2:18 AM

How do you add vinegar in a front-loading machine? Do you put it where the bleach goes?

by Anonymousreply 14May 19, 2024 2:18 AM

Borax and vinegar.

by Anonymousreply 15May 19, 2024 2:20 AM

[quote] Either pre-soak them in baking soda + warm water overnight

Who presoaks a whole load of laundry overnight?

by Anonymousreply 16May 19, 2024 2:20 AM

A sprinkle a day helps keep odor away!

Have you had your sprinkle today?

It's a good idea to use a machine washer cleaner every few months. I try to use the Tide version every 3 months or so. The same goes for the dishwasher, bacteria can grow over time.

You stank, bitch.

by Anonymousreply 19May 19, 2024 2:29 AM

Use several Bounce sheets in the dryer and your clothes will smell fresh.

by Anonymousreply 20May 19, 2024 2:34 AM

Bounce is a guilty pleasure I afford myself upon occasion.

by Anonymousreply 21May 19, 2024 2:35 AM

I think I will have someone come out and clean my dryer vent, I read that could help. And greetings to those of you who have called me a skank and a whore. 🤣

by Anonymousreply 22May 19, 2024 2:39 AM

Old man smell is a real thing.

You actually need to use an enzyme detergent to remove it.

by Anonymousreply 23May 19, 2024 2:50 AM

[quote] Use white vinegar in your loads

I believe I remember someone mentioning something about - piss and vinegar - was their preferred choice.

by Anonymousreply 24May 19, 2024 3:13 AM

This is a publicity ploy for that new stuff I've seen a few commercials for featuring a woman lamenting about her shirt smells bad and she might need to throw it out...then the 90s Boy Band comes on and sings to her that she doesn't need to because of the Product that now can eliminate that "OLD" smell.

Isn't it?

by Anonymousreply 25May 19, 2024 3:15 AM

*HOW her shirt smells bad

by Anonymousreply 26May 19, 2024 3:19 AM

[quote] Old man smell is a real thing.

And is old woman smell a real thing, too, R23?

by Anonymousreply 27May 19, 2024 3:21 AM

Miz Super Stank still is in denial, huh?

by Anonymousreply 28May 19, 2024 3:21 AM

Try Odoban and/or something like Lysol Laundry Sanitizer.

by Anonymousreply 29May 19, 2024 3:40 AM

There it is...Lysol Laundry Sanitizer...the product I've seen and heard commercials for over the past few months.

by Anonymousreply 30May 19, 2024 3:41 AM

I mentioned it because I had the same issue when I was staying with someone who didn’t know you have to periodically clear out the vent on the outside of the house.

If you’re hanging up clothes to dry, set up a dehumidifier beside them, they’ll dry quickly and they won’t have a musty smell.

by Anonymousreply 31May 19, 2024 3:44 AM

What a great idea for my next fragrance:

Calvin Klein: Musty

by Anonymousreply 32May 19, 2024 3:59 AM

r32: The FUNK! That was MY idea!

by Anonymousreply 33May 19, 2024 4:02 AM

[quote]"old person smell" is real and is caused by a natural byproduct of aging called nonenal. Nonenal is a chemical compound that occurs when the skin's omega-7 unsaturated fatty acids break down through oxidation. This process begins around age 40, and levels of nonenal increase with age. Nonenal has a distinct smell that some compare to cucumbers, aged beer, and old books.

by Anonymousreply 34May 19, 2024 6:39 PM

Use dryer sheets.

by Anonymousreply 35May 19, 2024 7:50 PM

I have had this happen a couple times over the last few months. I refer to it as a “bad load”. After thinking about it all I can guess is that maybe I was forgetful and didn’t throw in the detergent pod so it ended up washing without soap. If not that I have no idea.

by Anonymousreply 36May 19, 2024 8:12 PM

My ex kind of smelled musty. He was only like 30.

by Anonymousreply 37May 19, 2024 8:21 PM

I regularly put Oxyclean in my washer, and run a pre wash with a regular cycle of Tide White and Calgon conditioner with an extra final rinse and spin.

Clean and fresh clothes.

by Anonymousreply 38May 19, 2024 8:28 PM

It is you, dear.

by Anonymousreply 39May 19, 2024 9:02 PM

It’s your snatch, Rose.

by Anonymousreply 40May 19, 2024 9:10 PM

“Have fish 🐠 last night, dear?” “I thought George gave up cigars…”

You have your own cunty guests living inside your nose. Maybe Febreze for a quick fix?

by Anonymousreply 41May 19, 2024 9:28 PM

[quote]There are special enzyme detergents that supposedly help with the funk that gym clothes can get

Oh you sweet optimistic child you!

Caftans and hoodies with spagetthi sauce and burger fat stains, cat hair ,weed ashes and rentboy fluids is more like it.

by Anonymousreply 42May 19, 2024 9:56 PM

If you have a front loader (I hate them) you have to leave the door open after you do a wash until the inside is dry. This eliminates the odor issue.

by Anonymousreply 43May 19, 2024 11:08 PM

Is your washer a side loader? My mom and brother both had that problem with their machine, no matter how clean.

My mom got a top loader and it’s much better.

by Anonymousreply 44May 19, 2024 11:13 PM

I second r15: Borax and white vinegar.

by Anonymousreply 45May 19, 2024 11:16 PM

1. Don't use Tide. It smells like feet if you leave it in the washer for more than 5 minutes sfter the cycle is over. 2.dont leave it in the washer overnight no matter what the soap. It will get musty but Tide is the absolute worst for that.

by Anonymousreply 46May 19, 2024 11:22 PM

What is a side loader?

by Anonymousreply 47May 20, 2024 12:31 AM

R47, it's a washing machine with its door on the side instead of on top.

by Anonymousreply 48May 20, 2024 12:34 AM

Side loader is the same as front loader. It means you toss the clothing in from the side or front of the washer as opposed to the top. I HATE side loaders. They always make people's clothing smell because no one leaves the door open after the wash to let it dry out.

by Anonymousreply 49May 20, 2024 1:14 AM

Okay thanks. I didn't realize that front loader and side loader could be used interchangeably.
