The long-gestating prequel series to Dune is coming out soon and looks amazing!!! We will be watching.

Weird comment r1. Dune isn’t a children’s film nor one for the lowest common denominator like Marvel films.

R2 is sarcasm deficient.

This was ordered to series back in June 2019. I was so excited about it, had no idea it would take five more years to see it on the screen.
Chris Mason looks cute.

R4 covid delayed it for almost two years and then the strikes last year delayed it further.

It wasn't just Covid and the strikes, it wen't through something like four different showrunners all on its own. It's one of those troubled productions, saddled with a source material that isn't well regarded among the fans in the first place. So adjust your expectations accordingly.

Emily Watson is such an underrated actress. I will be watching.

The production also lost Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma and had to recast.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 15, 2024 7:19 PM |
Oh yeah, I forgot about Indira. I hated that when the recasting news broke. Oh, well.

At least Charlamet isn't in it.

Okay, I'm totally new to this universe. I'm not a genre person, but I do like darker sci-fi.
I never saw the ORIGINAL Dune film, let alone the newer ones with Timothy and Zendaya.
Is this a standalone story, or do I need to have seen the films first?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 18, 2024 4:49 AM |
r14 Completely standalone, set 10,000 years before the Dune movies. Everything you need to know about this universe will be explained in the series.

Good news: it doesn't suck! Apparently, they only adapted elements from Brian Herbert's shitty book, but it's otherwise an original story.
Starts this Sunday.

Looks fantastic.

I thought the premiere was entertaining enough, although I'm seeing more negative reactions from people elsewhere. I have to say though, it's the production values I'll be returning for, not necessarily the writing. The characters beyond the two sisters in charge aren't that compelling either.

I'm excited to see this. The Bene Gesseret are an interesting bunch. Looking forward to understanding their back story

Never been a fan of brutalism, but it looks so fucking good on this show. I guess I'm fine with it as long as the concrete looks nice and polished, instead of splotchy with algae and grime.
Couple of really cute guys in this show, too. And of course that delightful little robo-salamander, a remnant of the A.I. past. Crazy how long they managed to keep that prohibition on thinking machines; our world would never in a million years be able to show that kind of restraint, and we're only one planet.

I can’t believe any liked these movies. So soulless.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 18, 2024 3:21 PM |
Yeah, I didn't like the two new movies either, but this show (so far) has more humanity in it. It helps that the various planets don't look like desolate places with just one palace on it, like in the movies.

First episode is free on YouTube.
Can't believe we're halfway done already. Eight years of development hell for... six episodes. But the ratings are great, so it wasn't all for naught.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 4, 2024 2:34 PM |
The two episodes I've seen are sort of disappointing. It's slow and sort of boring
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 4, 2024 7:50 PM |
Yeah, it's not all that engaging. And the dreaded flashback episode in particular was a slog.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 4, 2024 8:01 PM |
The Bene Gesseret are so intriguing that I expected more.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 4, 2024 8:04 PM |
The Bene Gesserit are like (culinary) spice, they only work in small doses!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 4, 2024 8:07 PM |
Loved the finale, even though the rest of the season was just okay. Thank god the blue eyes turned out to be the thinking machines (A.I.) and not, you know, Chalamet.
Can you believe Mark Strong might be the next Dumbledore? They're gonna need to hide that bod!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | December 23, 2024 1:40 PM |
Too bad he is in this. And he is with a beard Kardashian. Pass, he is corny.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 23, 2024 5:53 PM |
Chalamet is not in this, you might have misread my post. I was saying thank god the ultimate threat in this show didn't end up being Paul Atreides as some people speculated. It's now looking like that'll be someone from the Bene Tleilax, the secretive genetic engineering society.
