George Clooney Will Star in Broadway Adaptation of 'Good Night, and Good Luck'
More A-list movie stars are headed to Broadway. Two-time Academy Award winner George Clooney will make his Broadway debut in spring 2025 in a stage adaptation of the 2005 film Good Night, and Good Luck. Clooney and Grant Heslov have adapted their screenplay for the stage, with David Cromer signing on to direct.
Clooney, who also starred in and directed the film, will lead the stage version as Edward R. Murrow, the role played by David Strathairn on screen. Additional casting, a theatre, and dates are to be announced, though representatives from the show said it will open at a Shubert theatre.

A work of historical drama, Good Night, and Good Luck centers on a clash between famed journalist Murrow and infamous U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy, of anti-communist HUAC fame. The title comes from Murrow's broadcast sign-off. Clooney starred on screen as Murrow's co-producer, Fred W. Friendly.
“Edward R. Murrow operated from a kind of moral clarity that feels vanishingly rare in today’s media landscape," says Cromer in a statement. "There was an immediacy in those early live television broadcasts that today can only be effectively captured on stage, in front of a live audience.
“I am honored, after all these years, to be coming back to the stage and especially, to Broadway, the art form and the venue that every actor aspires to,” adds Clooney.

Clooney is one of several high-profile movie stars set to make Broadway appearances in the upcoming 2024-2025 season, also including Robert Downey, Jr. in Lincoln Center Theater's MCNEAL, Jim Parsons and Katie Holmes in Our Town, David Hyde Pierce in Roundabout's The Pirates of Penzance, Mia Farrow (opposite Patti LuPone) in The Roommate, Daniel Dae Kim in Yellow Face, and Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal in Othello. Though not yet confirmed, recent reports have pointed to the possibility of also getting Sarah Snook in The Picture of Dorian Gray, which would altogether make for an especially star-packed season on the Main Stem.

He is not a very good actor. He is an even worse director. I have come to find him wildly insufferable.
