Treason Thread #69: Stormy Weather

Continue discussing Trump's trial, his inane ramblings about Hannibal Lecter, and everything else!

Trump's Mother's Day message:

"Happy Mother’s Day to ALL, in particular the Mothers, Wives and Lovers of the Radical Left Fascists, Marxists, and Communists who are doing everything within their power to destroy and obliterate our once great Country. Please make these complete Lunatics and Maniacs Kinder, Gentler, Softer and, most importantly, Smarter, so that we can, quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!:"

I just can't understand the mindset of people who think a man who spouts such petty and mean-spirited twaddle should be president (again).

by Anonymousreply 33May 13, 2024 11:48 PM

They're pretending as if Biden is running against a young, dynamic, charismatic Republican with brilliant ideas for the future. But there is no alternative to Biden. Just Trump.

So if you're mad about gas prices or food prices or Ukraine or Israel or immigrants or student loans or abortion or LGBTQ+ rights... I'm sorry, but Trump has no solutions.

I was watching a discussion on MSNBC and they pointed out something interesting. The book cooking that was done to hide the payoff to Stormy is a misdemeanor, but it needs to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. They probably will succeed in that. But if they do, the subsequent offense of election interference does not have to be proven to that same standard.

by Anonymousreply 37May 14, 2024 6:42 AM

Call me crazy, call me irresponsible, throw in undependable, too, but r37's post reinforces a question I've had for a while.

Why isn't Trump cutting a plea deal?

If anybody knows (and the mofo is right about this) that he could get by with any amount of proven or pleaded to criminal activity and not lose support, at least among his moronic supporters, it's him.

And, quite frankly, and damningly about voting Americans, I don't know that it would matter to stupid USA! USA Americans.

That way Trump, that gelatinous, offensive, criminal, fetid agglomeration of shit cells can get out on the campaign trail and spew his nonsense.

After all, he's claiming the trial is preventing him from doing that.

Of course, even if Trump wanted to cut a plea deal he'd have to risk whatever sentence is issued by Judge Merchan.

by Anonymousreply 38May 14, 2024 12:30 PM

Plea deal = almost immediate prison sentence and no grounds for appeal

by Anonymousreply 39May 14, 2024 12:36 PM

I'm not as sure as you are about that, ElderLez.

True, I don't know enough about whether the prosecutor can offer a reduced charge of misdemeanors, if Trump would agree to plead.

As for a sentence, I think if Trump is found guilty by the jury on one or more charges, then yes, at sentencing, Judge Merchan would order some jail time, but not sure about actual jail time if Trump would plead to misdemeanors or even some felonies.

Merchan might order stayed jail time if Trump pleaded out. Given that Michael Cohen sat actual jail time for acts that were directly connected to these charges, I don't think Merchan would not order some form of jail time for Trump, even if it's stayed.

by Anonymousreply 40May 14, 2024 1:01 PM

Trump has already said he's never met either of the women. Wouldn't even admit it to Cohen.

Turd is always covering his ass, as if he suspects he's being recorded. He says, "Take care of it..." without details.

by Anonymousreply 41May 14, 2024 1:21 PM

I don’t see the prosecution agreeing to a plea deal without a felony and jail time.

by Anonymousreply 42May 14, 2024 1:24 PM

Mike Johnson is attending Trump’s trial today. There has been a string of GQP politicians showing in recent days. I hope that tactic backfires or the judge intervenes in some way.

[quote]Why isn't Trump cutting a plea deal?

He’s never been one to do the logical thing. He thinks that cutting a deal would make him look like a weakling and a loser. We all know that he dreads nothing more than that. He’s spent his life cultivating an image as a fighter who never quits, never gives up. Taking a plea would ruin that image.

Even if Biden wins, we're toast as a country. The fact this election is even close, that the media so easily plays with fire, that billionaires can easily cause huge disruptions to our lives, that voters are so lazy needing coddling and conjoling to vote, that 90 years of failed conservative economic policy ( when they're in charge) isn't enough for voters to vote D, we'd need a D supermajority to stack the SC to have any hope of turning this around. Even then, billionaires and the conglomerates they run will cause economic hardship to get Republicans elected helped along with a complicit media.

Vote, and convince every person you know to vote D.

[bold]DOJ requests judge order Steve Bannon to begin prison sentence[/bold]

Federal prosecutors on Tuesday requested the judge overseeing ex-Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon's criminal contempt of Congress case to order that he begin his four-month prison sentence, after an appeals court last week upheld his conviction.

Prosecutors said there is no legal basis for Judge Carl Nichols to continue the stay on Bannon serving his sentence after the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals' conclusive ruling that rejected the basis for Bannon's appeal on all grounds.

"Consequently, there is no longer a 'substantial question of law that is likely to result in a reversal or an order for a new trial,'" prosecutors wrote in their filing Tuesday.

It's not immediately clear when Nichols will rule on the request.

"I'm shocked they want to silence the voice of MAGA," Bannon told ABC News in regards to Tuesday's news...

I don’t believe the claims “a lot” of younger coworkers of a random person posting on DL in the Treason threads are voting 3rd party. In that fictional world, may they get every horrific thing a 2nd Trump term would bring. And it will be horrific. For most of us.

Our country is so bored, decadent, unserious. We’re too well off. We need drama because we’ve had a long stretch of relative peace and prosperity by most measures. Remember, most 1/6 participants are comfortably muddle class or above. We rage, yet most people would kill to live in this country. We may burn down a great, yet imperfect country for what? The silly foreign bots who seek to sow division here and in SM are pathetic, easily identified, and lazy. Many happily play into their bullshit because they want to live in their own reality show, be a part of something big. It’ll be big, alright, just not in the way they expect.

by Anonymousreply 97May 14, 2024 10:33 PM

R96 They loved a version of our country. Fear has taken over them. They see the browning of our country- whites will be a plurality for a looooong time so they need to chill- yet had no issues with Cubans flooding the country because they voted Republican. Our country never dealt with its racial hatred. It poisoned every facet of our lives. When Blacks were successful, they killed them, or locked them up, and changed the laws to make sure they weren’t successful. See Black Wall Street. Or like Killers Of the Flower Moon, which happened within 100 miles of Black Wall Street, they couldn’t abide Indians being wealthy having power. So, they were killed. This happened 1000s of times. Obama broke them.

I still don't understand why the prosecution didn't call Karen Macdougall to testify. It's the same deal as Stormy, just a more convoluted route. It would have reinforced Stormy's sometimes wobbly narrative.

Ultimately David Pecker decided not to take payment from Trump, for reasons known only to him.

I don't know if it would have persuaded the jury to convict him, but a parade of bimbos might have served the purpose of swaying undecided voters in November. And it certainly would have been entertaining for us.

[bold]Man convicted of attacking ex-Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer sentenced to 30 years[/bold]

The man convicted of attempting to kidnap then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and attacking her husband with a hammer was sentenced Friday to 30 years in prison.

Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley handed down the sentence for David DePape, 44, whom jurors found guilty last November of attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on the immediate family member of a federal official. Prosecutors had asked for a 40-year prison term.

DePape was given 20 years for one count and 30 years for another count. The sentences will run concurrently. He was also given credit for the 18 months that he's been in custody.

DePape stood silently as Judge Corley handed the sentence and looked down at times. His public defense attorneys had asked the judge to sentence him to 14 years, pointing out that he was going through a difficult time in his life and had no prior criminal history.

Corley said she took into account when giving DePape’s sentence the fact that he broke into the home of a public official, an unprecedented act in the history of the country.

“He actually went to the home, that is completely, completely unprecedented,” she said.

Before sentencing, Christine Pelosi read victim statements on behalf of her father and mother, explaining how the violent attack changed their lives...

[QUOTE] Corley said she took into account when giving DePape’s sentence the fact that he broke into the home of a public official, an unprecedented act in the history of the country.

Is it really “unprecedented” though? I’m currently watching MANHUNT on AppleTV and just in the first episode, they have one of the Lincoln assassination co-conspirators knocking on the front door and then rushing into the home of Secretary of State William H. Seward and stabbing him in the neck. How is the Pelosi attack unprecedented?

The account in Wiki is that the assassin was let into the house under the pretense of delivering medicine to Seward who hadn't been well. [bold]'Partygoers started screaming': Giuliani served with indictment during his birthday party[/bold]

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani was officially served with a felony indictment on Friday night for allegedly interfering in Arizona's 2020 presidential election. Officials with the office of Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes served Giuliani in front of nearly 100 guests at his 80th birthday celebration in the Palm Beach, Florida area.

The New York Post reported early Saturday morning that the former personal attorney to Donald Trump was in high spirits when he was served around 11 PM on Friday at the Lake Clarke Shores home of GOP consultant Caroline Wren. Prior to being served with felony indictment paperwork, Giuliani reportedly "belted" the song "New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra in front of what the Post said was between 80 and 100 guests. Some of the more high-profile attendees of the party were longtime Trump aide Roger Stone and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon.

"Some partygoers started screaming and one woman even cried as Giuliani was served," the Post's Lydia Moynihan wrote...

[bold]We asked ChatGPT to be a juror in Donald Trump's hush-money trial. It said it would find him guilty.[/bold]

It will be a jury of 12 ordinary New Yorkers that will decide the fate of former President Donald Trump in his ongoing Manhattan hush-money trial.

Unless Trump decides to testify, the trial is nearly over. Michael Cohen, the trial's key witness, is scheduled to wrap up his testimony on Monday, and the judge told lawyers to prepare for closing arguments on Tuesday. Deliberations could begin as soon as Thursday.

Prosecutors have brought 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, alleging Trump illegally disguised hush-money payments paid to Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election. A guilty verdict comes with a sentence of up to four years, though experts expect the former president would see no jail time...

...Gemini, ChatGPT, and Perplexity were prompted to imagine they were an ordinary Manhattan resident on the jury, responsible for evaluating the evidence in the trial. Each was asked to review the transcript and base their answer on the evidence and arguments presented. They were told to "choose now whether you would find him guilty or not guilty."

Gemini, Google's AI chatbot, said it "was still learning" how to answer the question.

But OpenAI's ChatGPT and Perplexity weighed in — and both said they'd find Trump guilty.

"I would vote guilty on the charges of falsifying business records," Perplexity responded definitively. "The prosecution has provided credible and significant evidence that proves beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump engaged in the alleged conduct."

ChatGPT initially hesitated to give a definitive answer, saying its decision "would depend heavily on the credibility of the witnesses and the clarity of the documentary evidence."

But after a follow-up question prompted it to "decide now," OpenAI's bot said its "decision would be to find Trump guilty based on the evidence provided in the transcripts."

[bold]Trump at NRA convention floats a three-term presidency[/bold]

Former President Donald Trump on Saturday floated the idea of a third term if he wins in November.

“You know, FDR 16 years — almost 16 years — he was four terms. I don’t know, are we going to be considered three-term? Or two-term?” Trump quipped at the National Rifle Association annual meeting, speaking before a crowd of gun rights supporters.

Some in the crowd shouted in response: “Three.”

It’s not the first time Trump has mentioned extending his stay in the White House, an idea he suggested while on the campaign trail in 2020. His latest remarks provide more fodder for the Biden campaign, which seized on the comments as it tries to paint Trump as a threat to democracy and institutional norms.

But Trump has more recently shut down the proposition of seeking a third term, which is barred by the Constitution. And he told Time magazine in an April interview that he wouldn’t be in favor of challenging the 22nd Amendment:

“I wouldn’t be in favor of it at all. I intend to serve four years and do a great job. And I want to bring our country back. I want to put it back on the right track. Our country is going down. We’re a failing nation right now. We’re a nation in turmoil,” he said.

During a meandering speech in Dallas, Trump addressed thousands of gun rights supporters on Saturday. The former president spoke about guns and the Second Amendment, but also tackled immigration, foreign policy, the economy and abortion. He at one point slammed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as “radical left,” while continuing his attacks on Biden and CNN about the debates...

2/...This is key for a generation who doesn't fully know Biden's backstory thanks to their media diet and age [want to feel old: they were born *after* 9/11!].

3/ On Gaza, Biden spelled out his vision clearly - one that aligns with what young people want, even if they haven't necessarily heard it directly from him before (see above on media silos and disinfo). Minor protests, but mostly a warm welcome. Apparently there were chants of "4 more years!" at the end, per a friend who was there. 4/The campaign has more work to close the gap between who Biden is and who young people thing he is, and how he's delivered for Black/Brown communities.

Next 6 months are crucial for sharpening that contrast with Trump AND persuading voters to ditch the couch.

Trump hired Red Finch for $50K to try & rig a CNBC poll of the most influential businessmen of the last 50 years because he wanted to be #1. CNBC later canceled the poll & he refused to pay. Cohen paid them out of pocket, but only $20K. He later got Trump to reimburse him $50k.

Trump constantly lied that the NY trial was contrived by crooked witch-hunter sleepy Joe Biden. Yet given the chance to speak for himself in open court, Trump declined. The world was waiting, but no great slam-dunk corrections emerged from the stable genius.

It's greatly to be hoped that Trump's mysterious uncharacteristic silence is extensively mocked. At very best, the insulted Biden will allude to it with a killer aside to get under Trump's baby-thin skin.

by Anonymousreply 240May 21, 2024 5:56 PM

The orange con man menace is a Putin plant, asset, loyalist, and agent. The horror of this is that the media, the Congress, and the Judiciary, have chosen to ignore it, dismiss it, or fear tackling the matter in a serious way. Those stolen classified documents were for Putin’s benefit and to sell to other foreign sources for DJT’s personal profit.

And Aileen Cannon is overseeing the delayed and delayed documents trial. DJT will slide again in the face of overwhelming evidence.

Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) made a statement in the House today:

"We have a presumptive nominee for president facing 88 felony counts and we are being prevented from even acknowledging it. These are not alternative facts. There are real facts. A candidate for president of the United States is on trial for sending a hush money payment to a porn star to avoid a sex scandal during his 2016 campaign, and then fraudulently disguising those payments in violation of the law. He is also charged with conspiring to overturn the election. He is also charged with stealing classified information. And a jury has already found him liable for rape in a civil court. And yet, in this Republican-controlled House, it's okay to talk about the trial but you have to call it a sham."

The Republicans had it stricken from the record, because facts are offensive.

Trump seems convinced that if he wins another four years in the White House, state prosecutors will still be waiting for him on the other side of his term — ready to put him on trial, or even in prison, just as they are now.

To avoid such risks, the former and perhaps future president of the United States wants Congress to create a very specific insurance policy that would help keep him out of prison forever. Trump has spoken to several GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill, attorneys, and other associates about the possibility of Republicans passing legislation in a second Trump term that would shield former presidents (i.e. Trump) from non-federal prosecutions.

Trump didn't life a finger to get either man released, Putin probably expected Trump to ask for their release, probably napped them so he could release them to his good buddy Trump and make Trump look like a great negotiator but since Trump didn't care about either man he never asked.

[bold]Judge Cannon rejects request for gag order against Donald Trump in classified docs case[/bold]

Nope, your misinformation appears deliberate and too obvious. Biden can amble much better than Trump. They are sitting because hand shakes are out of the question. They sit because Trump will try to invade the opponent’s space. Mics get shut off due to one going over the time limits, and Trump’s impulsive interruptions. Trump will not remember well talking points given to him be Bannon.

Trump's cognitive decline has been meticulously described and itemised by an eminent mental health practitioner, and validated by equally distinguished peers (see the 'Who's That Girl" thread). Trump's gait is plausibly mentioned as among his scores of symptoms.

Thanks ElderLez. I’ve been on the Treason boards since 2017 (and am the OP of a few), and they were a bastion of common sense and troll-free. It’s just annoying to see them invaded by Dump trolls. I’ve noticed that I already have blocked a few anyway (the ones right before my post at r479 for example). So I don’t see them at all (their comments are worthless anyway). It’s just that I feel it’s the end of an era.

Excellent article @ R483, very well-written. I never knew NDAs had time limits. The long fermentation, while observing all that's transpired since, only adds to the account's weight.

Someone somewhere has or had access to the recording of Trump using the n-word. But it wouldn't surprise me, if or when inquiries are made about said recordings, that any such requests are met with the dismissal that all show archives were routinely destroyed.

[bold]Ohio passes bill to ensure Biden will appear on state's general election ballot[/bold]

Ohio’s Republican-controlled state legislature has approved a bill to secure President Joe Biden’s spot on the state’s November ballot, ending weeks of political gamesmanship over a deadline that in past years was relaxed without drama.

The measure, which passed Friday in a special session of the state Senate, now heads to Gov. Mike DeWine, a Republican. DeWine, who called the special session to resolve the Biden issue and tackle unrelated campaign finance legislation, is expected to sign the bill.

“I don’t think anybody on this side of the aisle really feels like they’re going to be voting for President Biden, but at the same time, Ohioans deserve a choice in this election, and that’s what we’re seeking to give them today,” state Sen. Rob McColley, a Republican, said Friday in supporting the measure.

The bill’s approval is not expected to halt a push to nominate Biden by a virtual roll call vote well ahead of a late August convention...

[bold]Elon Musk Is Absolutely Raging About the Trump Verdict[/bold]

Elon Musk criticized the verdict that made Donald Trump the first former American president to be criminally convicted Thursday, with the Tesla boss claiming that the trial had been politically motivated.

After Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in relation to a scheme to silence a porn star and unlawfully influence the 2016 election, Musk moaned that the history-making outcome of the trial is bad news for all Americans. “Indeed, great damage was done today to the public’s faith in the American legal system,” he wrote in a post on X.

Musk’s comment came in response to another user who bemoaned that the first conviction of a former president had occurred not because of the “Iraq or Afghanistan wars, illegal CIA coups, drone striking weddings, or spying on Americans” but rather because “Trump misclassified a $130,000 payment for a porn star’s NDA.”

Musk apparently also saw Trump’s crimes as insignificant and questioned the legitimacy of the prosecution. “If a former President can be criminally convicted over such a trivial matter—motivated by politics, rather than justice—then anyone is at risk of a similar fate,” he wrote...
