John Dye of "Touched by an Angel"
An unhappy homosexualist, yes? Raised in a religious Mississippi family, never married, died in San Francisco of what his family said was heart failure and the coroner said was "acute methamphetamine intoxication."
Anyone here ever touched by John Dye?

I totally think he was gay. The whole casting of that show was so incredibly gay. I mean they freaking had Jasmine Guy as the bad angel. A whole episode with Delta Burke Faye dunaway Nell Carter and others I can't remember at the moment. They kept bringing wynomnna the back I'm freaking Barbara mandrell. Police Rashad playing a falling down drunk.

That said comes on start TV at 5:00 a.m. where I live for 2 hours. I like catching it while I'm reading in the morning on the weekends and sometimes before work. Not only are the plot so insane and surprisingly not very preachy it's just dumb fun. I also enjoy seeing Salt Lake City in the '90s cuz I grew up in and around the valley so it's kind of cool seeing things I remember.

I think the most batshit insane episodes would have to be either the one where Elliot gold plays a postman who answers children's letters of God by telling them there is no God. Until he gets a letter from a girl who's begging God to let her go to heaven with her daddy when dies. Or the retired episode where the dad from Life goes on is terrified of his wife having a retarded baby and how liberally they throw that word around including weird quirky shows up and bill says what did God send me a retarded angel. Or maybe that episode where that skinny guy from evening shade place an insurance salesman who's married to a bed ridden potato named Ethel who's described much in the way Frasier always portrayed Maris some not quite human creature. Desperate Sydney a commission he signs a deal with the devil played in this episode by Roma Downey and called Monique. And then of course there's the bat s*** insane Delta Burke episode where she keeps singing I will not let you die in shallow water only to find out the kids she's been talking to the whole episode actually had died years before in shallow water. Oh yeah rue McClanahan was in that episode too.

R18 sadly no Patty. The wife is such a non-character though she simply there for Bill to yell at for conceiving a retarded baby and not aborting it. She later gets shot in a cafe by what Bill had previously envisioned as the perfect son and I don't even remember if the episode ever bothers to tell us if she dies or not.
Patty does guest star in a later episode as the owner of a mall kiosk who hates children. Anyway I think that was her.

The more I think about it this show is very gay coded. Like the relationship with tess and monica comes across less is a maternal relationship and more lovers especially considering how often tess appears dressed in uniforms like cops and postmen.

[quote]S7 E25: SHALLOW WATER PART II - Monica must try to bring together a family torn apart by a tragic accident. Guest stars Delta Burke, Nell Carter, Faye Dunaway, and Rue McClanahan.

Chris 'Corky' Burke played a retarded angel.
He was in a hilarious episode where a group home of various mongoloids lived next door to a bitter and suspicious Diane Ladd. She took great pride in her rose garden and the destructive little beasts trampled her prize winning beauties and caused her to have a stroke!!!
Then it was funny cause when she tried to talk, I'll be damned if she didn't sound like a tard, too!
There was supposed to be a lesson somewhere in all this.

I think it's kind of funny when we always say x should have had a bigger career. Because maybe they had exactly the amount of success they cared to have. Like Kathleen here worked pretty consistently didn't have to be tied down to anyone location or series for years and probably made a pretty fair amount of money doing it and had the freedom to do her singing thing too. I think if I were an actor that's the kind of career I'd want to have because he fly under the radar so there's not as much pressure scrutiny and you have a lot of freedom to work when you want. I wouldn't however want to be so ugly that people call me a character actor.

Touched by Angel was a great guest-of-week show for 70s tv stars. Melissa Gilbert, Marion Ross, Valerie Harper, and others guest starred in episodes.
It was also TV show that gave country singers acting gigs. Wyonna Judd did several episodes and so did Randy Travis, Travis Tritt, JoDee Messina, and a couple of others.
