I don’t know if the person who posted that TikTok is a regular reader or lurker here, or if they are friends with someone here. But I feel like DL is directly responsible for Joe’s relationship being made public and Joe subsequently making his TikTok private. I’m actually sad that a new thread was started here. I think it’s time for the HS fandom to leave DL.

This will be my last post here, and I hope other people think twice before continuing to post here too. We knew other fans lerk here and continued to discuss the private lives of the cast. We’re part of the problem, myself included.

I see three main possible scenarios here: Joe is just inconsistent because despite being famous he’s still a 20-year-old after all so sometimes he’ll feel fine about things being posted and other times he’ll try to hide it; people are oblivious to his level of fame/passionate stans, and they keep posting things without him knowing but he’s fine dealing with it afterwards by not sharing it or untagging himself; he’s actually upset with them about it and wishes they wouldn’t post anything at all but isn’t confident enough to set that boundary more firmly.

I agree that fans are stupid, but the original culprit in this circumstance remains the creep who is pushing 40 and has either the terrible judgment or the manipulative streak not only to make sure he was included in Joe’s Broadway experience as much as possible from the go, but also chose to plaster it all over his social media only a couple of months into dating a 20-year-old global celebrity. At best, a complete moron, at worst (and unfortunately more likely) an immature user with a penchant for young twinks, enamoured with the lifestyle of a showbiz insider.

I don’t think the guy deleted those posts only to protect Joe, but also to protect his own ass and his corporate job.

Fans should absolutely stay out of it in public posts, but if Joe doesn’t find the mental health support and any existing insider tools to help him navigate these situations (while building up the self-esteem to date better guys), it will inevitably always cause him stress. There’s a level of fame that he’s already hit where he can’t control what the world knows about him as a young gay man still trying to living a somewhat normal life in a big city - as opposed to some middle-aged straight actor living with his family in a secluded home in the middle of nowhere. It’s profoundly messed up how Joe can’t escape that reality after all the shit he’s had to deal with on social media. It started when he was left to deal with the bullying by himself by the HS adults, and it’s even more painful to watch him still having to manage issues affecting him personally to this day when they are directly caused by people close to him. Fans can only do so much to stop certain things from reaching the general public once they’ve been shared by his inner circle. He’s a smart guy, so my hope is that as he keeps maturing it won’t be too long until he starts being more selective both with his friendships and in his dating life, and also that he’ll get whatever professional support he may need in order to build enough confidence to set firmer boundaries around what he shares online.
