'Judy Garland Spoke to Me': Ben Platt Previews His Upcoming Residency at the Palace

The Tony winner will usher in the reopening of the historic theatre by playing a three-week residency.

Have you heard, he's "queer?" If not, he will remind you a thousand times.

Presenting...Liza with a B!

I knew he was queer at birth. I slapped his ass and he cried, "Harder, daddy!".

by Anonymousreply 1April 29, 2024 10:53 PM

[quote]Presenting...Liza with a B!

He should live so long....

by Anonymousreply 2April 30, 2024 5:17 AM

So unappealing.

by Anonymousreply 3April 30, 2024 5:24 AM

Judy spoke to me and said Get out of my house.

by Anonymousreply 4April 30, 2024 5:47 AM

This reads like a Tracey Ullman parody.

by Anonymousreply 5April 30, 2024 5:51 AM

She said, “Where’s the drugs?”

by Anonymousreply 6April 30, 2024 5:52 AM

She said “Damn, that was a hard shit, anyone got a suppository?”

by Anonymousreply 7April 30, 2024 6:09 AM

I’ve waited my whole life for Judy to talk to me. So far I’ve only heard from Ethel Gumm & Sid fucking Luft.

by Anonymousreply 8April 30, 2024 12:29 PM

he has fans?

by Anonymousreply 9April 30, 2024 12:32 PM

His top priced ticket on tour is $600, of course he's fucking delusional

by Anonymousreply 10April 30, 2024 12:35 PM

And she said, “Shave your shoulders, kid.”

by Anonymousreply 11April 30, 2024 1:13 PM

He always looks sweaty and dirty. Like someone who changed their underwear once a week.

by Anonymousreply 12April 30, 2024 1:46 PM

Ish Mama?

by Anonymousreply 13April 30, 2024 1:54 PM

Is there anything his father can't do? Daddy, I want a pony on another level.

by Anonymousreply 14April 30, 2024 2:02 PM

"I'll sing 'em all and we'll stay all night."

by Anonymousreply 15April 30, 2024 3:00 PM

Will his Dad buy all these tickets too? Like he did at Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl. Do they give them away to the homeless?

by Anonymousreply 16April 30, 2024 3:42 PM

The venue's last show was 2017's SpongeBob SquarePants.

by Anonymousreply 17April 30, 2024 3:45 PM

R16: "Will his Dad buy all these tickets too? Like he did at Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl. Do they give them away to the homeless?"

Gentle reminder that the kinder descriptor is "unhoused".

by Anonymousreply 18April 30, 2024 4:46 PM

Unhoused are in the house!

by Anonymousreply 19April 30, 2024 4:49 PM

I was molested.

by Anonymousreply 20April 30, 2024 4:50 PM

I hope Judy told him to take down his Tik-Tok video where he mocks a child’s singing a song from “Legally Blonde”. Particularly ironic, as Miss Platt has expressed contempt for the “randos” on social media. In fact, Miss Platt has deleted her Twitter because she was getting critical feedback. There’s a classic nepo-baby hypocrisy here and it’s hilarious. This guy is an entitled dick.

by Anonymousreply 21April 30, 2024 5:26 PM

Such a mangina, that Platt.

by Anonymousreply 22April 30, 2024 5:40 PM

Did she say if I should live with drunk sissy or mean sissy?

by Anonymousreply 23April 30, 2024 5:46 PM

Who is this person?

by Anonymousreply 24April 30, 2024 7:04 PM

That article’s picture lol

by Anonymousreply 25April 30, 2024 7:10 PM

He really does look like a big hairy pussy personified.

by Anonymousreply 26April 30, 2024 7:14 PM

When he talks about his collaborators my mind goes the World War II.

by Anonymousreply 27April 30, 2024 7:20 PM

I love this community but get between me and my audience and I will push you off the stage.

by Anonymousreply 28April 30, 2024 7:24 PM

Yeah, she said get off my fucking stage you fucking nobody.

by Anonymousreply 29April 30, 2024 7:42 PM

And tell your boyfriend to strip posting pictures of his first in his own ass.

by Anonymousreply 30April 30, 2024 8:52 PM

Judy speaks to me as well, Ben. We often laugh at what a big flaming FAGGOT you are . She also told me how she is glad she killed herself all those years ago so she didn’t have to live to see your “career” as a no talent homosexual with a glandular problem.

by Anonymousreply 31May 1, 2024 6:58 AM

I like Ben! I've saw him in the play Parade a few months ago, he was very good. Sorry guys, you can hate on him all you want, but the guy is very talented. From the Kennedy Honors...

by Anonymousreply 33May 3, 2024 3:39 PM

by Anonymousreply 39May 3, 2024 4:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 40May 3, 2024 4:52 PM

That's what I say of me

I'm happy go-lucky, they say that I'm plucky

contented and carefree

I am queer I am queer

I'm gay even when I drink a beer

I suck cock and get plugged despite being so fugged

'Cause I am queer

And I'm the one in prison???

by Anonymousreply 42May 28, 2024 6:39 PM

[quote]His top priced ticket on tour is $600, of course he's fucking delusional

$600 for Ben Fucking Platt? Christ. Who does he think he is, Judy Garland? She would've been worth a $600 ticket.

by Anonymousreply 43May 28, 2024 6:41 PM

So fat.

by Anonymousreply 44May 28, 2024 6:42 PM

He sucks ass. When he dies he'll be sucking ass in hell. Not in a good way either.

by Anonymousreply 45May 28, 2024 6:53 PM

ALLEGEDLY: I just took a quick look through all the seating charts on Ticketmaster and my hypothesis is that him (although I don’t think he’s the brains) and daddy and the booker are obviously playing games with the seats. If you look at all the NY July shows they all have the same pattern of seats available so what they’re doing is only releasing set blocks on Ticketmaster, which makes it look like half of the venue is already sold out, but really it’s probably barely an eighth sold. They then moved blocks of tickets over to resale sites where they have them listed with an upcharge on those tickets. So what they’re doing is creating an illusion of demand for the event to increase prices and also covering up the fact that he’s not selling well. So what ends up happening is the people who end up paying the excessive amount will essentially pay for all the other tickets that are either going to get dumped for a really cheap price or they’ll just give them away for free to get asses in the seats.

by Anonymousreply 46May 28, 2024 7:01 PM

Wait until he dumps Noah's ass for the sake of publicity.

by Anonymousreply 47May 28, 2024 7:01 PM

I wonder if she used Judy's standard compliment for shitty performers:

How do you do it?

by Anonymousreply 48May 28, 2024 7:03 PM

He might sellout tonight (opening) but tomorrow is already rough, over 400 tickets still on resale sites and 1/3 on Ticketmaster. The capacity is around 1650 people.

by Anonymousreply 49May 28, 2024 7:18 PM

No way sales will keep up to the end of this “residency”.

by Anonymousreply 50May 28, 2024 7:19 PM

Has Daddy figured out how to buy an Oscar yet?

by Anonymousreply 51May 28, 2024 7:24 PM

Stage Manager: "But, Ben, boththe soldiers in the wheelchairs are waiting for you in the audience."

Ben: "They wheeled them in, they can wheel them out."

by Anonymousreply 53May 28, 2024 7:25 PM

That was a great thing about all the homosexuals running Hollywood and Broadway and TV back in the day before we had surrogates and all this other bullshit, they didn’t have any kids to help with nepotism and they wouldn’t put up with any of that bullshit from anyone else. We were better as a meritocracy.

by Anonymousreply 60May 28, 2024 7:56 PM

As of this AM, the mezzanine almost completely unsold for opening night! They’ve converted all VIPs to regular price tix and it’s in TKTS.

Also, Equity lounge offering upto 4 comps per member for performances this week.

by Anonymousreply 61May 28, 2024 7:58 PM

R61 what is equity lounge?

by Anonymousreply 62May 28, 2024 8:00 PM

Interesting take, r60

by Anonymousreply 63May 28, 2024 8:00 PM

Showtime in 3.5 hours and hundreds of tickets are still available for opening night for a 1600 seat venue. Will he play to a 20% house in July? Hope they’re thinking up a creative cancellation excuse.

by Anonymousreply 64May 28, 2024 8:05 PM

Just how rich is his father? He is determined that we, the innocent public, are going to listen to his drip of a no talent son or there will be hell to pay.

by Anonymousreply 65May 28, 2024 8:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 66May 28, 2024 8:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 68May 28, 2024 8:10 PM

If one of you want to go sit by the theater in some ratty athleisure wear, they’ll probably come around later and hand out free tickets. Make sure to take your phone and get some videos for everyone here.

by Anonymousreply 69May 28, 2024 8:13 PM

Video of them begging the shiftless and unwashed to come watch for free would be better than porn. You hear me??? BETTER THAN PORN. Especially if it was Daddy and that twerp Noah handing them out!!!

by Anonymousreply 70May 28, 2024 8:18 PM

Will Ben blame Daddy when his show bombs?

by Anonymousreply 71May 28, 2024 8:18 PM

His tour prices are just as crazy according to Reddit. At one venue, he's asking more than two times Jason Mraz for the same seat. And yet I guess they gave away a bunch of tickets for the Palace show at one of the late night host taping, so SOMEONE on his team is well aware that he's not going to sell out.

I think this is what the pop stans call delulu. Him, daddy, both?

by Anonymousreply 72May 28, 2024 8:19 PM

Noah might have to offer his furry, moaning hole to the POC unhoused men on the streets to get a full house.

by Anonymousreply 73May 28, 2024 8:19 PM

It's not like he's even that well known to the general public. I'm sure if you said "Ben Platt," about 75% of the public would say "who?"

And $600 a ticket like he's some huge star! Ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 74May 28, 2024 8:20 PM

R72 holy shit! Talk show giveaways too and he’s still not sold out for opening night. This makes JLo look like Taylor Swift.

by Anonymousreply 75May 28, 2024 8:20 PM

Also, a lot of those people who receive giveaway tickets don’t end up showing up like probably at least 30 to 40%. There’s gonna be an echo in the palace tonight.

by Anonymousreply 76May 28, 2024 8:21 PM

[quote] they wouldn’t put up with any of that bullshit from anyone else. We were better as a meritocracy.

Back in the day you basically had to be a Liza Minnelli or a Jane Fonda to succeed, i.e. uniquely talented in your own right, independent of who your parents were.

Today, any talentless twat can be handed a career because of famous parents.

by Anonymousreply 77May 28, 2024 8:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 94May 28, 2024 11:07 PM

"I've always sort of had in my mind this flowery dream of some sort of Broadway moment where I could sing my own music and perform as myself and do some combination of songwriting and storytelling with a theatrical space," he said. "And then the universe kind of intervention element is that the Palace has been being remodeled for a long time and it's finally ready to come back around. And as soon as those two things aligned, it sort of clicked that this might be the moment to really have a Judy Garland moment, as they say!"

"There's going to be a lot for my new album, Honeymind, that I'll sing for the first week," he continued. "I'll sing some stuff from my other records, a couple of musical theater moments, of course, and some honoring of the people that came before me in the Palace, like Judy and Liza and stuff like that. And then definitely some really exciting surprise guests!"

by Anonymousreply 95May 28, 2024 11:25 PM

It’s gonna be Noah. Zzzzzzzz.

Speaking of, who has Noah’s nudes?

by Anonymousreply 99May 29, 2024 12:37 AM

Theater Camp is hilarious. My husband and I are trying to come up with better ideas for opening the Palace. We came up with Lin Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, and maybe Heather Headley (returning to where she did Aida). Heather isn’t a mega-name. But word of mouth for her would be amazing and that would sell tickets. If Sutton went away for the last 5 years, she would’ve been great but she’s overexposed now.

by Anonymousreply 115May 29, 2024 2:02 AM

by Anonymousreply 116May 29, 2024 2:15 AM

She was so correct about AIDS killing off so many tastemakers and gatekeepers, as well as artists and junk culture taking over. God, just look at our culture today.

by Anonymousreply 117May 29, 2024 2:19 AM

I really like Ben. Kill me. I don't understand the vitriolic hate towards him. I think he is very talented, very out and very pro-gay. I saw him in Parade and he was excellent.

I also saw him and Noah walking their dog in a park in New York City last week. It was one of those surreal New York moments. A friend and I were sitting on our usual bench, oddly watching Mayor Adams and his entourage about 100 yards away planning something. I then noticed these two guys walking towards us. I realized who they were and I really thought I was having a psychotic episode. The mayor and Ben & Noah?! Yes, I got verklempt. Noah looked at me and smiled knowing that I had recognized them. They seemed very sweet and happy.

by Anonymousreply 148May 29, 2024 4:50 AM

Review on Reddit. So this is someone who bought opening night tickets and is familiar enough with his work to know what songs came from what albums, so is presumably something of a fangirl and yet the review is still rather lukewarm, getting 3/5

[quote]The biggest "moments" of the show were probably the DEH cover, the Liza Minelli cover of Maybe This Time, the Kacey Musgraves appearance, and his encore performance of Over the Rainbow.

[quote]I'm not surprised bc it was marketed this way, but I thought it was odd to play so much unreleased music because even big fans couldn't sing along. I thought it sapped some momentum at the start and end, as he began and ended on unreleased songs. I also was surprised he didn't do more show tunes.

Starting and ending a show with an unreleased song, now that's showmanship!

[quote]He did do one cover of DEH, which seems to be a first for his solo shows. It was Requiem, the only one he wasn't on stage for in the show. He explained he felt he couldn't perform Evan songs anymore because he was trying to move on mentally from Evan.

Should've done that before the movie

[quote]And plenty of celebrities there for opening night (Anna Wintour, Dylan Mulvaney, Beanie Feldstein, Bryan D’arcy James, Noah Galvin [duh]).

by Anonymousreply 151May 29, 2024 4:56 AM

From a poster at BroadwayWorld:

According to media invites that went out, “this concert residency is not open for review” and is only open “for feature consideration.” That of course won’t stop some outlets from buying their own tickets and running reviews. But it still feels like an unusual decision — even if reviews were decidedly mixed, they could still pull some positive quotes to help sell the tour.

by Anonymousreply 152May 29, 2024 4:57 AM

I never thought I’d say this, but poor Anna Wintour.

r173 Ben's father Marc Platt is a producer and a big deal in both Hollywood and Broadway, very powerful in the Industry:

[quote]Platt started producing in theatre, before moving into film. He has served as president of production for three movie studios: Orion Pictures, TriStar Pictures, and Universal Studios. Platt has since formed his own production company, Marc Platt Productions, within the Universal realm and continues to pursue creative projects. His company is responsible for the Legally Blonde films and the HBO miniseries Empire Falls.[6]

[quote]Platt has produced a variety of feature films beginning with the 1987 comedy Campus Man. His films include Legally Blonde (2001), Wanted (2008), Rachel Getting Married (2008), Nine (2009), Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), Drive (2011), The Girl on the Train (2016), and Cruella (2021). He also produced critically acclaimed films such as Steven Spielberg's cold war drama Bridge of Spies (2015), Damien Chazelle's musical La La Land (2016), and Aaron Sorkin's legal drama The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020), all of which earned him Academy Award for Best Picture nominations.

[quote]Platt has produced numerous productions on the Broadway stage with his first official credit being Wicked earning his first Tony Award for Best Musical nomination. He was also nominated for Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical for Pal Joey in 2009 and Tony Award for Best Play for Indecent in 2017. He won the Tony Award for Best Musical for The Band's Visit in 2018 and for A Strange Loop in 2022.[9] He will also produce the upcoming stage adaptation of La La Land.[10]

R173 he was a Broadway producer who suddenly got gigs as president of all these different movies studios. His rise to power is very suspect, as it happened very suddenly. I guarantee there’s a very interesting story there as well. Then he moved into production himself and started producing films. He’s responsible for the live action little mermaid and upcoming Snow White…

He’s basically a super woke Jew, who probably doesn’t think his skin is white, who betrays all of us other Jews because he’s not a Zionist, and in order to prove he’s woke he probably leans towards Palestine, Or maybe even fully is on the Palestine side

by Anonymousreply 175May 29, 2024 2:25 PM

Not singing his big songs from DEH and focusing on his new solo album for the concert set seems foolish. His fanbase is fat musical theatre girls who empathise too much with the asshole that is Evan Hansen. They are the new crop of theatre fans who worship the modern musical sound - Beetlejuice, Be More Chill, Heathers etc - so they won't give a flying fuck about the Judy/Liza stuff either.

R186 I still don't get it. Who the FUCK cares if some lunatic Broadway producer "demands" people give his idiot son favorable coverage? What's he going to do if they refuse? Cancel their tickets to Hamilton? Send Patti LuPone to break their legs?

He's not a mafia don. He's not Harvey Weinstein. He's not even that gay guy from "The Nanny."

There's no fear or muscle here. No one gives a shit what a Broadway producer wants for his kids. Besides, Patti has been breaking legs for years, and no one's moved by that threat anymore.

by Anonymousreply 189May 29, 2024 3:29 PM

R189 he’s a huge player on Broadway and in Hollywood. Those types on that level call in favors with each other. It’s not that he directly controls these people who bend to his will, it’s that he probably calls their agent who definitely want to keep him happy because they probably have a client they would love cast in one of his films. It’s not always leveraging a relationship directly, but sometimes leveraging a relationship indirectly. I don’t know how he gets any work done on his productions when all he seems to be doing is shilling his son’s bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 190May 29, 2024 3:34 PM

R190 Nah, he's not. If he were truly a huge player, they wouldn't have a half-empty theater on opening night. There wouldn't be all these leaks about "No Reviews on Opening Night" and discounting seat prices to pack the room.

He certainly seems to think he's a player.

by Anonymousreply 191May 29, 2024 3:39 PM

He’s the singular producer on the upcoming Snow White with a budget of $200M+, he’s a player

by Anonymousreply 192May 29, 2024 3:45 PM

R192 And yet he can't get his son a bogusly successful opening night? C'mon, even Patsy Ramsey got better press for her kid.

Step outside the Broadway-Playbill-Faggotry world and look at this like a normal person. This kid is NOT a star, and his father is NOT the King of Broadway. His weak press and lousy ticket sales at a medium-sized venue are blatant evidence of that. You're doing their spin for them, and perpetuating the inflated nonsense. Quit sniffing their farts.

by Anonymousreply 193May 29, 2024 3:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 200May 29, 2024 5:42 PM

R193 The real thing here is not doing a litmus test of how much power his father has in the industry, he obviously has a little bit, he’s not like Harvey Weinstein level. The real hilarious factor here is how much effort is going into this, as well as how much money, with very, very disappointing results. His father is absolutely pulling strings, do you think Ben and the fiancé would get met Gala invitations otherwise? I don’t think so

by Anonymousreply 201May 29, 2024 5:44 PM

He must stop invoking the names of Judy, Liza and Bette. He is nothing of the sort. And it's extremely disrespectful to their legacy. Plus, those women were among the most celebrated stars in the entertainment industry and part of the consciousness of the American public before they played the Palace.

And his (or his father's) inflated ego should have been reigned in the first time anyone even uttered the words, "Let's book this kid for three weeks." This is nonsense and foolish beyond words. A weekend or perhaps a week (stretching it) at Studio 54 Below would have been sufficient. Ben Platt's overblown outing at the Palace is not a Broadway show with other actors and singers, a plot, an orchestra, an actual must-see landmark happening, etc. This is one relatively unknown precocious little Jewish boy who is punching way, way, way above his weight...and not ready for a one-man-show at the Palace.

by Anonymousreply 217May 29, 2024 8:15 PM

Is The Politician good? Is it worth watching?

by Anonymousreply 218May 29, 2024 8:19 PM

Ben Platt mentions Gavin Creel during his interview with Kelly Clarkson. Gavin Creel is extremely accomplished (more so than Ben Platt) but still relatively unknown among the general public. I couldn't imagine the extraordinarily talented Gavin Creel booking himself for three weeks at the Palace. Nor could I see any of Platt's peers who are far more talented booking themselves for three weeks at the Palace including Aaron Tviet, Jeremy Jordan, Andrew Rennells, etc., all of whom are accomplished and equally or better known as Platt.

Hugh Jackman man may be able to pull it off, but I question that even he would have the balls or inflated ego to try. A one-man show for three weeks?! Frank Sinatra, yes. Johnny Mathis, maybe. Michael Buble, maybe, Harry Connick, Jr, maybe. Ben Platt, no.

He gets all the raves for Evan Hansen, but I don't really think he's the best.

I actually find Sam Tutty from London to be better in the role.

R261, I saw him and Noah in a New York City park two weeks ago. They looked and acted completely normal.

by Anonymousreply 263June 3, 2024 4:04 PM

R263, New York City normal.

by Anonymousreply 264June 3, 2024 4:11 PM

r260 What's the summary?

Suspicious review also from Reddit. Reads like ChatGPT, which probably means it's a shill. Ben's PR team busy at work trying to save this disaster LOL:

by Anonymousreply 272June 3, 2024 9:47 PM

R267 That is an extremely unflattering photo.

by Anonymousreply 273June 3, 2024 9:53 PM

He's a very un-photogenic guy.

by Anonymousreply 274June 4, 2024 12:19 AM

R273, His facial hair is not beard material.

by Anonymousreply 275June 4, 2024 1:15 AM

She’s giving a bloated booze and pill hound vibe… just like Judy.

by Anonymousreply 276June 4, 2024 1:37 AM

R267. What is with Ben Platt and the high-waisted, baggy voluminous pants? He looks like he's sharing wardrobe with Meghan Markle.

by Anonymousreply 277June 4, 2024 1:49 AM

Just the fucking ego and hubris of booking The Palace for three weeks. Ridiculous! As others said, three nights at 54 Below would've been appropriate for him.

His father must've spent a fortune on this.

by Anonymousreply 278June 4, 2024 1:56 AM

Not sure why NBC feels compelled to keep showing us the barely talented hack. First Kelly Clarkson, then several different hours of The Today Show, now Late Night with Seth Myers. Ughhhhhh.

by Anonymousreply 279June 4, 2024 5:06 AM

Hahaha. R175 hates Ben Platt so much that he’s lying that Papa Marc Platt is anti-Zionist/pro-Palestinian.

Not a bit of it. Marc Platt is hugely pro-Israeli. He was trying to get Boots Riley’s representatives to drop him.

I saw the show last night. He's very talented, sweet and a lot of fun. It wasn't exactly what I expected (I was expecting an homage to the theater and the people who performed there over the years), but it was good with some great moments. The theater was 98% full (I was in the mezzanine), not bad for a Tuesday night. He has a lot of very loyal and vocal fans. The one negative, he's very much of his generation in that they like to talk about themselves and their feelings....endlessly. The theater is beautiful, btw.

by Anonymousreply 284June 5, 2024 5:54 PM

R284 is Noah

by Anonymousreply 285June 5, 2024 5:54 PM

I’ve been offered free tickets by two different organizations. The show isn’t selling, but is heavily papered.

by Anonymousreply 286June 5, 2024 5:59 PM

If it was 98% full, it’s from giveaways

by Anonymousreply 287June 5, 2024 5:59 PM

It's a papered house. They can't sell the tickets. Nobody gives a shit about nepo baby Ben Platt.
