I hope Judy told him to take down his Tik-Tok video where he mocks a child’s singing a song from “Legally Blonde”. Particularly ironic, as Miss Platt has expressed contempt for the “randos” on social media. In fact, Miss Platt has deleted her Twitter because she was getting critical feedback. There’s a classic nepo-baby hypocrisy here and it’s hilarious. This guy is an entitled dick.

ALLEGEDLY: I just took a quick look through all the seating charts on Ticketmaster and my hypothesis is that him (although I don’t think he’s the brains) and daddy and the booker are obviously playing games with the seats. If you look at all the NY July shows they all have the same pattern of seats available so what they’re doing is only releasing set blocks on Ticketmaster, which makes it look like half of the venue is already sold out, but really it’s probably barely an eighth sold. They then moved blocks of tickets over to resale sites where they have them listed with an upcharge on those tickets. So what they’re doing is creating an illusion of demand for the event to increase prices and also covering up the fact that he’s not selling well. So what ends up happening is the people who end up paying the excessive amount will essentially pay for all the other tickets that are either going to get dumped for a really cheap price or they’ll just give them away for free to get asses in the seats.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 28, 2024 8:01 PM |

His tour prices are just as crazy according to Reddit. At one venue, he's asking more than two times Jason Mraz for the same seat. And yet I guess they gave away a bunch of tickets for the Palace show at one of the late night host taping, so SOMEONE on his team is well aware that he's not going to sell out.
I think this is what the pop stans call delulu. Him, daddy, both?

It's not like he's even that well known to the general public. I'm sure if you said "Ben Platt," about 75% of the public would say "who?"
And $600 a ticket like he's some huge star! Ridiculous.

"I've always sort of had in my mind this flowery dream of some sort of Broadway moment where I could sing my own music and perform as myself and do some combination of songwriting and storytelling with a theatrical space," he said. "And then the universe kind of intervention element is that the Palace has been being remodeled for a long time and it's finally ready to come back around. And as soon as those two things aligned, it sort of clicked that this might be the moment to really have a Judy Garland moment, as they say!"
"There's going to be a lot for my new album, Honeymind, that I'll sing for the first week," he continued. "I'll sing some stuff from my other records, a couple of musical theater moments, of course, and some honoring of the people that came before me in the Palace, like Judy and Liza and stuff like that. And then definitely some really exciting surprise guests!"

Theater Camp is hilarious. My husband and I are trying to come up with better ideas for opening the Palace. We came up with Lin Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, and maybe Heather Headley (returning to where she did Aida). Heather isn’t a mega-name. But word of mouth for her would be amazing and that would sell tickets. If Sutton went away for the last 5 years, she would’ve been great but she’s overexposed now.

I also saw him and Noah walking their dog in a park in New York City last week. It was one of those surreal New York moments. A friend and I were sitting on our usual bench, oddly watching Mayor Adams and his entourage about 100 yards away planning something. I then noticed these two guys walking towards us. I realized who they were and I really thought I was having a psychotic episode. The mayor and Ben & Noah?! Yes, I got verklempt. Noah looked at me and smiled knowing that I had recognized them. Review on Reddit. So this is someone who bought opening night tickets and is familiar enough with his work to know what songs came from what albums, so is presumably something of a fangirl and yet the review is still rather lukewarm, getting 3/5
[quote]The biggest "moments" of the show were probably the DEH cover, the Liza Minelli cover of Maybe This Time, the Kacey Musgraves appearance, and his encore performance of Over the Rainbow.
[quote]I'm not surprised bc it was marketed this way, but I thought it was odd to play so much unreleased music because even big fans couldn't sing along. I thought it sapped some momentum at the start and end, as he began and ended on unreleased songs. I also was surprised he didn't do more show tunes.
Starting and ending a show with an unreleased song, now that's showmanship!
[quote]He did do one cover of DEH, which seems to be a first for his solo shows. It was Requiem, the only one he wasn't on stage for in the show. He explained he felt he couldn't perform Evan songs anymore because he was trying to move on mentally from Evan.
Should've done that before the movie

From a poster at BroadwayWorld:
According to media invites that went out, “this concert residency is not open for review” and is only open “for feature consideration.” That of course won’t stop some outlets from buying their own tickets and running reviews. But it still feels like an unusual decision — even if reviews were decidedly mixed, they could still pull some positive quotes to help sell the tour.

r173 Ben's father Marc Platt is a producer and a big deal in both Hollywood and Broadway, very powerful in the Industry:
[quote]Platt started producing in theatre, before moving into film. He has served as president of production for three movie studios: Orion Pictures, TriStar Pictures, and Universal Studios. Platt has since formed his own production company, Marc Platt Productions, within the Universal realm and continues to pursue creative projects. His company is responsible for the Legally Blonde films and the HBO miniseries Empire Falls.[6]
[quote]Platt has produced a variety of feature films beginning with the 1987 comedy Campus Man. His films include Legally Blonde (2001), Wanted (2008), Rachel Getting Married (2008), Nine (2009), Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), Drive (2011), The Girl on the Train (2016), and Cruella (2021). He also produced critically acclaimed films such as Steven Spielberg's cold war drama Bridge of Spies (2015), Damien Chazelle's musical La La Land (2016), and Aaron Sorkin's legal drama The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020), all of which earned him Academy Award for Best Picture nominations.
[quote]Platt has produced numerous productions on the Broadway stage with his first official credit being Wicked earning his first Tony Award for Best Musical nomination. He was also nominated for Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical for Pal Joey in 2009 and Tony Award for Best Play for Indecent in 2017. He won the Tony Award for Best Musical for The Band's Visit in 2018 and for A Strange Loop in 2022.[9] He will also produce the upcoming stage adaptation of La La Land.[10]

R173 he was a Broadway producer who suddenly got gigs as president of all these different movies studios. His rise to power is very suspect, as it happened very suddenly. I guarantee there’s a very interesting story there as well. Then he moved into production himself and started producing films. He’s responsible for the live action little mermaid and upcoming Snow White…
He’s basically a super woke Jew, who probably doesn’t think his skin is white, who betrays all of us other Jews because he’s not a Zionist, and in order to prove he’s woke he probably leans towards Palestine, Or maybe even fully is on the Palestine side

Not singing his big songs from DEH and focusing on his new solo album for the concert set seems foolish. His fanbase is fat musical theatre girls who empathise too much with the asshole that is Evan Hansen. They are the new crop of theatre fans who worship the modern musical sound - Beetlejuice, Be More Chill, Heathers etc - so they won't give a flying fuck about the Judy/Liza stuff either.

It’s all so excessive. It reminds me of one of those super spoiled girls who are daddy’s princess, who demand that daddy give them everything they want, you know where there’s always that creepy underlying vibe of “you better or I’ll spill the beans!”
Maybe that the case here too.

He's not a mafia don. He's not Harvey Weinstein. He's not even that gay guy from "The Nanny."
There's no fear or muscle here. No one gives a shit what a Broadway producer wants for his kids. Besides, Patti has been breaking legs for years, and no one's moved by that threat anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 189 | May 29, 2024 4:29 PM |
R189 he’s a huge player on Broadway and in Hollywood. Those types on that level call in favors with each other. It’s not that he directly controls these people who bend to his will, it’s that he probably calls their agent who definitely want to keep him happy because they probably have a client they would love cast in one of his films. It’s not always leveraging a relationship directly, but sometimes leveraging a relationship indirectly. I don’t know how he gets any work done on his productions when all he seems to be doing is shilling his son’s bullshit.
by Anonymous | reply 190 | May 29, 2024 4:34 PM |
R190 Nah, he's not. If he were truly a huge player, they wouldn't have a half-empty theater on opening night. There wouldn't be all these leaks about "No Reviews on Opening Night" and discounting seat prices to pack the room.
He certainly seems to think he's a player.

He must stop invoking the names of Judy, Liza and Bette. He is nothing of the sort. And it's extremely disrespectful to their legacy. Plus, those women were among the most celebrated stars in the entertainment industry and part of the consciousness of the American public before they played the Palace.
And his (or his father's) inflated ego should have been reigned in the first time anyone even uttered the words, "Let's book this kid for three weeks." This is nonsense and foolish beyond words. A weekend or perhaps a week (stretching it) at Studio 54 Below would have been sufficient. Ben Platt's overblown outing at the Palace is not a Broadway show with other actors and singers, a plot, an orchestra, an actual must-see landmark happening, etc. This is one relatively unknown precocious little Jewish boy who is punching way, way, way above his weight...and not ready for a one-man-show at the Palace.

Ben Platt mentions Gavin Creel during his interview with Kelly Clarkson. Gavin Creel is extremely accomplished (more so than Ben Platt) but still relatively unknown among the general public. I couldn't imagine the extraordinarily talented Gavin Creel booking himself for three weeks at the Palace. Nor could I see any of Platt's peers who are far more talented booking themselves for three weeks at the Palace including Aaron Tviet, Jeremy Jordan, Andrew Rennells, etc., all of whom are accomplished and equally or better known as Platt.
Hugh Jackman man may be able to pull it off, but I question that even he would have the balls or inflated ego to try. A one-man show for three weeks?! Frank Sinatra, yes. Johnny Mathis, maybe. Michael Buble, maybe, Harry Connick, Jr, maybe. Ben Platt, no.

R259 yes on other threads

Anyone else think BP’s eyes are too close to each other? He gives off a creepy vibe on his own, but those eyes are really unsettling.

He gets all the raves for Evan Hansen, but I don't really think he's the best.
I actually find Sam Tutty from London to be better in the role.

R261, I saw him and Noah in a New York City park two weeks ago. They looked and acted completely normal.

R263, New York City normal.

Suspicious review also from Reddit. Reads like ChatGPT, which probably means it's a shill. Ben's PR team busy at work trying to save this disaster LOL:

R267 That is an extremely unflattering photo.
by Anonymous | reply 273 | June 3, 2024 10:53 PM |
He's a very un-photogenic guy.

She’s giving a bloated booze and pill hound vibe… just like Judy.

R267. What is with Ben Platt and the high-waisted, baggy voluminous pants? He looks like he's sharing wardrobe with Meghan Markle.
by Anonymous | reply 277 | June 4, 2024 2:49 AM |
Just the fucking ego and hubris of booking The Palace for three weeks. Ridiculous! As others said, three nights at 54 Below would've been appropriate for him.
His father must've spent a fortune on this.

Not sure why NBC feels compelled to keep showing us the barely talented hack. First Kelly Clarkson, then several different hours of The Today Show, now Late Night with Seth Myers. Ughhhhhh.

Hahaha. R175 hates Ben Platt so much that he’s lying that Papa Marc Platt is anti-Zionist/pro-Palestinian.
Not a bit of it. Marc Platt is hugely pro-Israeli. He was trying to get Boots Riley’s representatives to drop him.

I saw the show last night. He's very talented, sweet and a lot of fun. It wasn't exactly what I expected (I was expecting an homage to the theater and the people who performed there over the years), but it was good with some great moments. The theater was 98% full (I was in the mezzanine), not bad for a Tuesday night. He has a lot of very loyal and vocal fans. The one negative, he's very much of his generation in that they like to talk about themselves and their feelings....endlessly. The theater is beautiful, btw.

R284 is Noah

I’ve been offered free tickets by two different organizations. The show isn’t selling, but is heavily papered.
by Anonymous | reply 286 | June 5, 2024 6:59 PM |
If it was 98% full, it’s from giveaways
by Anonymous | reply 287 | June 5, 2024 6:59 PM |
It's a papered house. They can't sell the tickets. Nobody gives a shit about nepo baby Ben Platt.
