Sabrina Carpenter's new single Espresso

I'm pleasantly surprised! A catchy pop tune with a retro video where she doesn't take herself seriously.

More of this please.

First contestant for Song Of The Summer

by Anonymousreply 1April 29, 2024 12:21 PM

Yeah it's definitely got a summer feel to it.

It's performing well. Entered at 6 in the UK charts and went up to 5 this week, which is good considering all the Taylor songs in the top 20 from everyone streaming her album.

by Anonymousreply 2April 29, 2024 12:28 PM

Great song. I also love Chappell Roan's "Good Luck, Babe!". Pop music is BACK!

Is she related to Karen carpenter?

by Anonymousreply 4April 29, 2024 2:29 PM

Surprisingly a good song. She might finally have a genuine breakout hit.

by Anonymousreply 5April 29, 2024 3:16 PM

R4 funnily enough she’s related to Nancy Cartwright

by Anonymousreply 6April 29, 2024 5:02 PM

[quote]Is she related to Karen carpenter?

No, but her father, Jesus, was a carpenter.

by Anonymousreply 7April 29, 2024 5:14 PM

She is one of those Disney girls, so, it can't end well.

by Anonymousreply 8April 29, 2024 5:15 PM

I liked it and the video, it was cute.

The other song linked upthread, not so much. And the video was horrendous; I'm sure purposely so. Either way, it sucked (the video).

by Anonymousreply 9April 29, 2024 5:18 PM

Trying too hard to be the next Ariana Grande.

by Anonymousreply 10April 29, 2024 5:19 PM

Is it a challenge to be 5 ft tall?

by Anonymousreply 11April 29, 2024 5:22 PM

She can suck dick standing up, r11.

by Anonymousreply 12April 29, 2024 5:23 PM

Selena Gomez could have sung this and it would have sounded exactly the same.

by Anonymousreply 13April 29, 2024 5:27 PM

I preferred Karen Carpenter's last single: Ipecac!

by Anonymousreply 14April 29, 2024 5:37 PM

Espresso yourself!

by Anonymousreply 15April 29, 2024 5:37 PM

R10 She seems different to Ariana. If she starts stealing men away from their girlfriends I'll reconsider.

by Anonymousreply 16April 29, 2024 5:49 PM

I like the Sabrina Carpenter song a lot, it’s some Great lightweight pop. I dislike like Chappell Roan’s production and Lana-meets-Gaga “I’m a female drag queen” affectations.

by Anonymousreply 17May 3, 2024 9:56 AM

[quote]She seems different to Ariana

Ariana can sing, while this one whispers shit.

by Anonymousreply 18May 26, 2024 10:26 AM

[quote]Sabrina Carpenter

Another Flop-Tart they can’t stop relentlessly pushing on the public.

by Anonymousreply 19May 26, 2024 10:27 AM

Sorry, but the song is unremarkable and this Sabrina Carpenter girl has a paper-thin voice. The video is colourful, fun and cute, but it cannot compensate for the dull, aimless melody and the singer's evident lack of talent.

R13 is right: any other talentless, famous-for-being-famous, interchangeable pop tart could have sung this inconsequential little tune. Selena Gomez, Lana del Rey, Billie Eilish, Halsey... They all mumble in a half-whisper and can't sing live to save their sorry lives.

by Anonymousreply 20May 26, 2024 12:09 PM

We had voices then.

by Anonymousreply 21May 26, 2024 12:19 PM

Lana can sing live, as can Billie.

by Anonymousreply 22May 26, 2024 1:47 PM

I'd love to hear Karen's cover of this.

I don’t care for her breathy whisper “singing”

by Anonymousreply 24May 26, 2024 4:35 PM

She’s such a no-talent flop, her record label was trying to beard her up with Miss Shawn Mendes last year, because they were desperate just to get her ANY publicity.

by Anonymousreply 25May 26, 2024 7:12 PM

Another pudgy butch girl for openly heterosexual Shawn Mendes.

by Anonymousreply 26May 26, 2024 7:20 PM

Social Media is ruining popular songs like this. I’ll hear the hook 100 times before I ever hear the song in its entirety.

by Anonymousreply 27May 26, 2024 7:21 PM

I heard she was dating the ugly Irish guy from Saltburn. Can't remember his name.

by Anonymousreply 28May 27, 2024 2:51 PM

So record labels are definitely starting to manipulate streaming.

Spotify has been pushing this artist and Charli XCX into everyone’s queues.

I have an AI generated playlist called “On Repeat” that plays my Top songs of the week and both of them are on it and I’ve never even heard these songs.

I let my playlists and AI DJ playlist run at work all day and I can’t believe these singers are in my top songs cause I don’t know or listen to them.

The music industry is such a sham right now.

by Anonymousreply 29June 26, 2024 1:33 AM

This actually happened

If you go to the 1 minute mark of her song and the :55 second mark of George Michael’s Fast Love they are similar:

Sabrina can actually sing quite well. She’s been working since she was a kid and did a stint in Mean Girls on Broadway.

I enjoy her more than Chappell Roan, who seems unstable and quite obnoxious.

R20 you're not really paying attention if you think Billie and Lana are interchangeable with Selena Gomez and Sabrina Carpenter.

Billie, in particular, has a very, very unique delivery (that often drives some people crazy) and production. No one sounds like her musically or tonally.

by Anonymousreply 33June 26, 2024 7:03 AM

I like her. She's fun.

She currently has the #1 and #2 singles in the UK.

by Anonymousreply 34June 26, 2024 11:10 AM

She sounds like mumbling, whispering desperation.

by Anonymousreply 35June 26, 2024 11:14 AM

I saw her live in Melbourne as the opening act for Swift's Eras Tour. She sang circles around Swift. Not my usual cup of tea to listen to, but I came away with respect for her. Even if she did look like a slutty My Little Pony.

by Anonymousreply 36June 26, 2024 11:59 AM

Sure she can, R22. Sure she can... 🙄

Thank you for your marketing assistance, Mother Carpenter.

by Anonymousreply 39June 26, 2024 7:33 PM

Are you utterly insane, R38? She is horribly out of tune in all throughout that performance and the whiny baby voice is so far back in her throat, that it would barely be heard if the microphone weren't amped to the max.

Anyway, why am I bothering? You're clearly a deranged fan.

R40 you have to be comfortably sad to get her. Go back to your brain dead Swift vinyls.

by Anonymousreply 41June 26, 2024 10:03 PM

I, too, immediately thought she ripped off George Michael's "Fastlove". Shame on her.
