An in depth analysis. There are some interesting tidbits here such as Truman serving Fritos to Winston Churchill.

Again and again with this aspic shit.

Did anyone actually like eating gelatin with cold meat in it?

by Anonymousreply 1April 11, 2024 4:44 AM

It vanished from WH menus thanks to the Clintons.

by Anonymousreply 2April 11, 2024 4:59 AM

Least we forget Mamie Eisenhower's fabulous canned potatoes. Jackie Kennedy freaked out when she found hundreds of cans in the White House pantry... "What the fuck am I going to do with all these potatoes?"

" Dragon fighting tiger" which was a skinned cat and python. WTF were they thinking?!🤮

by Anonymousreply 4April 11, 2024 9:31 AM

Was veal cheap in the 80s? The Reagans sure served a lot of it.

by Anonymousreply 5April 11, 2024 11:50 AM

Sweet corn and tequila ice cream sounds vile🤮

by Anonymousreply 6April 11, 2024 11:53 AM

I can’t decide if George W. Bush’s food was subversive or just lazy.

by Anonymousreply 7April 11, 2024 12:24 PM

The 80s were when people starting learning how cruel veal production is. The Reagans were my first fuck your feelings president.

[quote] Jackie Kennedy freaked out when she found hundreds of cans in the White House pantry... "What the fuck am I going to do with all these potatoes?"

She ended up giving it to food banks for those on assistance.

by Anonymousreply 9April 11, 2024 12:52 PM

I’d love to know who was there to report on Jackie‘s foul language regarding her discovery of Mamie‘s canned potatoes.

by Anonymousreply 10April 11, 2024 1:02 PM

@r9, "She ended up giving it to food banks for those on assistance."

And the "Jackie on Assistance" name was born 😂

by Anonymousreply 11April 11, 2024 1:07 PM

@r10, "I’d love to know who was there to report on Jackie‘s foul language regarding her discovery of Mamie‘s canned potatoes."

"That old cunt with the bangs wouldn't even offer me a wheelchair a week after my C-section when I toured the White House. I wanted to shove those canned potatoes up her ass" 😠

by Anonymousreply 12April 11, 2024 1:49 PM

Were you meant to eat the aspic, or cut it open and just eat whatever was inside?

by Anonymousreply 13April 11, 2024 1:58 PM

JFK's favorite dish was Sautéed Cerveaux.

by Anonymousreply 14April 11, 2024 2:38 PM

[QUOTE]Least we forget Mamie Eisenhower's fabulous canned potatoes.

Don't forget the fairy toast. We discussed one of her state dinners on the late, great "Mamie Eisenhower's low hangers" thread. We were WTF? It's as awful as it sounds. I can't remember which dignitary was visiting.

by Anonymousreply 18April 11, 2024 8:21 PM

Why didn't they serve Mamie's Million Dollar Fudge?

by Anonymousreply 19April 11, 2024 8:25 PM

Thanks, r18. I did a quick search and couldn't find it. I thought it may have been for royalty (which makes it better) but leaned toward QEII. I was so taken aback by the fairy toast I forgot the other abominations on the menu.

Saltine Crackers (were they fancy back then?)

White Fish in Cheese Sauce

Crown Roast of Lamb Stuffed With Spanish Rice with mint jelly

Braised Celery

Orange and Roquefort Cheese Salad Bowl with French Dressing

A lot of the items suggest picnic. Coleslaw and Boston Brown Bread Sandwiches. Why, Mamie, why?

by Anonymousreply 20April 11, 2024 8:46 PM

Truman served ham, potato balls, and pickled watermelon to then Princess Elizabeth.

by Anonymousreply 21April 11, 2024 9:05 PM

Nixon drank Chateau Margaux while serving his guests hobo swill. The bottle was concealed by a napkin.

by Anonymousreply 22April 11, 2024 9:16 PM

DataLounge never fails to dig up amazing facts.

by Anonymousreply 23April 11, 2024 9:21 PM

You left the best part out, r21. Lobster thermidor was also on the menu. How clashy. (not said in Liza voice)

Number of state dinners has decreased

All the reporters crowd to see Bill and Hill at 41:20. Some of these women needed to have had a lesson on what to wear to a state dinner.

by Anonymousreply 28April 13, 2024 4:06 PM

Are you referring to Hillary's caftan? We loved it on the other thread.

by Anonymousreply 29April 13, 2024 7:36 PM

No, Hillary's caftan was fine. Two women had their boobs hanging out. A couple were wearing cocktail dresses and others just displayed no taste in fashion.

by Anonymousreply 30April 13, 2024 8:09 PM

Quelle surprise

by Anonymousreply 31April 13, 2024 8:46 PM

Nice to see gay male couples in attendance.

by Anonymousreply 32April 13, 2024 8:46 PM

No lesbian couples?

by Anonymousreply 33April 13, 2024 8:50 PM

I finally read theOP's (looong) article and r22 was not joking as I'd thought.

by Anonymousreply 34April 14, 2024 11:35 PM

bump

by Anonymousreply 35August 26, 2024 9:53 PM

that is truly an exhaustive resource

by Anonymousreply 36August 26, 2024 10:04 PM

Chasten will step in to plan the Harris state dinners. Mississippi pot roast and Jello cake!

by Anonymousreply 37August 26, 2024 10:21 PM

Will he wear earrings?

Will he wear caftans?
