Ang Lee Says Oscars Stage Manager Suggested ‘Brokeback’ Was Winning Best Picture — Then It Lost

He says “Brokeback Mountain” losing Best Picture to “Crash” was a response to Academy discrimination against a gay love story: “I think so, yeah.”

He's right, but it was a different time. And that stage manager was just trying to be efficient so they wouldn't be chasing Lee around if the movie won for BP, I don't fault him.

But if it had won, then Marina "I could have you EJECTED into SPACE!" Sirtis would never have been able to tell people she was in a film that won the Oscar for Best Picture.

So it all evens out in the end.
