One way to deal with it would be to become more troll savvy. We always ask website operators to filter them out. But users should be more savvy, too. Personally, I don't care if a troll is causing a stir from Moscow, Shanghai or Orlando. If a post here on DL is only out to stir up shit I ignore at best or put on Ignore at worst. It's not difficult to identify them. Admittedly it's much harder not to take them as a real opinion. The key is to stay vigilant and not to engage with (any) troll. Let website providers do their part. But users need to do theirs, too.

Technically no the Chinese would not want Trump reelected because he started the trade war. The Russians would have it in their interest for a US Chinese trade war to continue.

Trump took a lot of “anti” Chinese actions that actually benefited China, such as the China Initiative that attacked American scientists of Chinese descent, which has caused many of them to flee to China rather than face bogus criminal charges here. It’s been much more helpful to China’s science ambitions than the expensive thousand talents program has been.

You are taking the position that the Chinese don’t want their own researchers here, the researchers they sent, with the CCP’s approval. If the Chinese didn’t want those people here, they wouldn’t have allowed them to come.

The CCP wants US trained researchers recruited back to labs in China. It’s part of the Belt and Road Initiative. And don’t forget that what would be public findings in the US, good for the whole world will be proprietary in China.

Besides the china initiative under Trump didn’t go after spies. It went after people with typos on their other support documents.

The China initiative went after senior Investigators, many, if not most, of them US citizens or green card holders. You seem oddly invested in purposefully misrepresenting my posts and muddying the waters around the focus and impact of the China initiative.

So you are saying the China Initiative, a racist initiative, was targeting US citizens of Chinese descent, and that China would WANT this because it would convince these Americans to renounce their citizenship and return to China, instead of, oh, I don’t know, simply going to work in the private sector?
