Maria Riva's book on her mother Dietrich and old Hollywood is one of the best. Terrific writer who watched everything from when she was a small girl in the 30s.

On YouTube there are a lot of docs about old Hollywood including ones on big stars of the silent era who are completely forgotten today like Mary Nolan. There are multi series like the silent era narrated by James Mason and the RKO story narrated by Ed Asner. Put in anybody's name and there is probably a documentary on them.

The "You Must Remember This" podcast. So far, I've listened to the Charles Manson and the Peter Bogdanovich / Polly Platt ones.

“The Parade’s Gone By” by filmmaker and historian Kevin Brownlow. Essential and heartfelt look at the silent era. Still available on Amazon, but try to find a hard bound copy. Lovingly and beautifully put together with some amazing photographs.
