How do I get rid of my license plates?
I sold a car to caravans. They gave me the license plates. I’m in Rhode Island. I sold the car to them in Connecticut. Can I throw them away? Do I have to contact any agency? TIA!

Go to the RI motor vehicle office and ask them. I’m sure they’re open on Easter Sunday.

Definitely return to the DMV ASAP and get a receipt to send to your car insurance company.

A simple transmorphic incantation should do the job easily. Sure, you could phase them into a parallel universe, but who keeps that many griffin feathers on hand? Just zap them and come to brunch already, sis!

Nail 'em to the wall of a bar.

Return them to your DMV and get a receipt if you ever plan on registering another car in your state without having to pay a huge penalty for having unreturned tags on your record.

I never would have thought you had to return plates to the DMV/

Like others have said, contact the DMV. If they don't want them you can recycle.

Sweetie, why do you think there are old license plates nailed to the walls of repair shops. They become useless and only decorative.

If you have some time left on the tags after your latest renewal, then take them by the issuing authority for credit that can be applied to the next tags you buy. If the tags have expired, chuck 'em out with the recycling.

Aren't there people who collect them? Sell them on Ebay.
