Edward was made King before Mary and Elizabeth only because he was the eldest male legitimate heir. Until 2013 men always took the British throne before women if they were all legitimate children of the monarch.

Children of newer spouses absolutely do not get precedence over children of older legitimate spouses now that the gender exclusions are no longer in play.
