Celebrities you don't like for no particular reason.

Is there any famous person you have taken a disliking to without cause? No basis whatsoever for the disdain but the very sight of them turns you off?

You haven't read anything bad about them, their talent isn't in question, no scandals, no stories of mistreating anyone. Nothing. Just don't like them.

I don't like Melissa McCarthy. I have no reason for this.

by Anonymousreply 332April 15, 2024 12:26 AM

Oh dear, where to even begin? The list would be much shorter if you asked us which celebrities we like for no reason.

by Anonymousreply 1March 28, 2024 8:05 PM

Brian Cox from Succession. Dislike him very much.

by Anonymousreply 2March 28, 2024 8:10 PM

Lana Del Rey can die for all I care.

by Anonymousreply 3March 28, 2024 8:10 PM

Tim Allen

by Anonymousreply 4March 28, 2024 8:11 PM

I have an innate dislike for David Thewlis ever since I first saw him in Timeline in 2003. No idea why, he repels me on a molecular level. Although that manky accent he's so fond of plays a part as well.

Jesse Plemons is another one. I just find him hard to look at, though his new post-Ozempic look is more bearable.

by Anonymousreply 5March 28, 2024 8:12 PM

I don't dislike for no reason.

by Anonymousreply 6March 28, 2024 8:14 PM

Robin Williams.

by Anonymousreply 7March 28, 2024 8:14 PM

by Anonymousreply 8March 28, 2024 8:16 PM

Kevin Costner. I've liked some of his films but he just bugs me. I like it when he plays a bad guy because I can use that.

by Anonymousreply 9March 28, 2024 8:16 PM

Kevin Nealon and Tracee Ellis Ross. Both think they are so funny and how dare you not laugh. But both are so awkward. Tracee in particular thinks she is just this fabulous comedienne. But she is never funny. Ever.

by Anonymousreply 10March 28, 2024 8:16 PM

Will Smith. His self-loathing makes him uncomfortable to watch.

by Anonymousreply 11March 28, 2024 8:18 PM

Jeremy Strong

by Anonymousreply 12March 28, 2024 8:20 PM

Carey Mulligan - I just want to punch her face.

by Anonymousreply 13March 28, 2024 8:32 PM

R11 was this pre-slap or only post-slap?

by Anonymousreply 14March 28, 2024 8:36 PM

Annette Benning. Her acting is equally mediocre and histrionic. Ugly pudgy face. Charmless dykey haircut.

I can’t name a single film where I’ve enjoyed her performance. You could replace her in any movie with Susan Sarandon or even better Sigourney Weaver and the movie would be much better

by Anonymousreply 15March 28, 2024 8:40 PM

Jack Black makes me ill.

by Anonymousreply 16March 28, 2024 8:41 PM

That bug-eyed “dramatic” actress makes me sick!

by Anonymousreply 17March 28, 2024 8:44 PM

Jesse Eisenberg. For me, he ruins everything he appears in.

by Anonymousreply 18March 28, 2024 8:47 PM

R14, since his days as The Fresh Prince. Something about him makes me sad and uncomfortable for him.

by Anonymousreply 19March 28, 2024 8:52 PM

R19 / R11 it's probably his closeted self loathing and recent cuckolding.

by Anonymousreply 20March 28, 2024 8:54 PM

Oprah. I don’t get her. She’s not especially warm and she’s full of bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 21March 28, 2024 8:55 PM

Emma Stone. She just bugs me.

by Anonymousreply 22March 28, 2024 8:56 PM

Leo. His weird baby face and his voice annoy the shit out of me.

by Anonymousreply 23March 28, 2024 8:58 PM

Johnny Depp. Where’s the charisma? He looks like a repository of every rancid smell on earth.

by Anonymousreply 24March 28, 2024 9:03 PM

Timothee Chalamet. Mediocre actor and average to below average looking kid. I don’t understand why he’s seen as the second coming of Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 25March 28, 2024 9:04 PM

Anna Kendrick. Before I knew her name I used to refer to her as that little ugly girl.

by Anonymousreply 26March 28, 2024 9:05 PM

Tom Hanks. The Kardashians (well, there's an obvious reason). Tom Cruise.

Actually Hanks is he only one without a reason. He just pisses me off.

by Anonymousreply 27March 28, 2024 9:05 PM

by Anonymousreply 28March 28, 2024 9:06 PM

Bradley Cooper. I can’t stand his emu looking face and he’s not the greatest actor or director. I don’t get why people continue to hire him for things.

by Anonymousreply 29March 28, 2024 9:09 PM

Most of these don't really qualify as celebs we dislike for no particular reason. The reason is generally the person's face.

by Anonymousreply 30March 28, 2024 9:12 PM

Amy Schumer.

by Anonymousreply 31March 28, 2024 9:13 PM

Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio has always bugged the crap out of me.

Don't know why, but she does.

by Anonymousreply 32March 28, 2024 9:22 PM

Same, R32. I think it’s her hair.

by Anonymousreply 33March 28, 2024 9:35 PM

Ryan Reynolds and Jennifer Garner-- but I have my reasons, which I have laid out on DL in detail.

by Anonymousreply 34March 28, 2024 9:38 PM

Amy Adams.

by Anonymousreply 35March 28, 2024 9:38 PM

Another thumbs down for Amy Schumer. She is sublimely unfunny and looks as if she has halitosis.

by Anonymousreply 36March 28, 2024 9:46 PM

Nicolas Cage. Jeff Goldblum. John Malkovich

by Anonymousreply 37March 28, 2024 9:47 PM

All of my disliked performers remind me of people in my life who I despise.

by Anonymousreply 38March 28, 2024 10:04 PM

[quote]I don't dislike for no reason.

Same here, R6. I’m trying to think of someone but there is always a reason.

So far, most of the posters in this thread are naming reasons for disliking people.

Nicole Kidman.

by Anonymousreply 42March 28, 2024 10:38 PM

Sylvia Sidney

by Anonymousreply 43March 28, 2024 10:41 PM

Zudora Hanson

by Anonymousreply 44March 28, 2024 10:43 PM

Helen Lawson

by Anonymousreply 45March 28, 2024 10:44 PM

Christina, for reasons which are well known to her.

by Anonymousreply 46March 28, 2024 10:45 PM

R41 I don’t think “her face bugs me” is a good reason in the way the OP meant. It’s not the same as disliking a celebrity because they’re nasty to fans or something.

by Anonymousreply 47March 28, 2024 10:48 PM

James Taylor, his whimpering style singing voice, it makes him sound like he's dying of boredom. I don't know why he would expect others to listen to his music. Maybe he's making fun of his listeners taste.

by Anonymousreply 48March 28, 2024 10:55 PM

John C. Reilly

I hate his ugly dented face.

by Anonymousreply 49March 28, 2024 11:51 PM

Jeff Goldblum and I'm a Jew.

by Anonymousreply 53March 29, 2024 1:08 AM

Jonah Hill, George Clooney, and Blake Lively. They just give me the creeps.

by Anonymousreply 54March 29, 2024 1:13 AM

That "Finding Your Roots" dolt on PBS. Punchable face. Won't watch his show.

by Anonymousreply 55March 29, 2024 1:15 AM

Corey Feldman, Judge Judy, Kevin Sorbo, Oprah, Danny Masterson and Dolly Parton.

by Anonymousreply 58March 29, 2024 1:47 AM

Alex Rodriguez makes my skin crawl.

I've always hated Tom Hanks and I'm not even sure why.

by Anonymousreply 61March 29, 2024 1:56 AM

R55. You mean Dr.. Henry Louis Gates, probably the most highly respected scholar of African American Studies, Professor at Harvard? Oh, THAT dolt!

by Anonymousreply 62March 29, 2024 2:08 AM

Maureen McCormick.

I usually root for the underdog, so I was TeamJan.

by Anonymousreply 63March 29, 2024 2:13 AM

R62 — That’s the one. Hate him.

by Anonymousreply 66March 29, 2024 2:22 AM

Mason Reese

by Anonymousreply 67March 29, 2024 2:23 AM

Reese Witherspoon, Mark Wahlberg, Diddy (for no particular reason years before the current scandal), David Schwimmer, Kristen Stewart, Jonah Hill, Ariane Grande, Jonathan Franzen, Victoria Beckham...

by Anonymousreply 68March 29, 2024 2:26 AM

Emmanuel Lewis

by Anonymousreply 69March 29, 2024 2:27 AM

R67, Mason Reese spearheaded the illicit Norwegian plot to place homely red-haired, pasty-skinned, freckle-blemished actors on screen. They were everywhere - promoting acceptance of bodies without souls.

You may believe it was Danny Boneduce, but he was a herring.

Mason Reese was behind it all!

by Anonymousreply 78March 29, 2024 3:21 AM

Austin Butler

by Anonymousreply 79March 29, 2024 3:26 AM

John Krasinski (hideous and untalented) Tom Hanks (unbearably smug) Anna Kendrick (very irritating) Cynthia Nixon (bad actor) Jake Gyllenhall (douchebag and closet case energy) Dwayne Johnson (part of "dumb bro culture") Domhnall Gleeson (talentless nepo baby) Reese Witherspoon (bland suburban white Christian energy)

I couldn't think of any actors that I dislike for no reason

by Anonymousreply 80March 29, 2024 3:42 AM

The first actor who I, when I was a kid and used to watch a lot of TV, realized that I just HATED for no particular reason was Richard Schaal. Eldergays will recognize him from his many one-off or recurring character appearances in just about every sitcom on American television throughout the 70s. Trivia: he was Valerie Harper’s first husband.

Quite a number of you did not understand the assignment. For example, R10.

The assignment is "you don't like for no particular reason". Thus, do NOT list all the reasons!

by Anonymousreply 82March 29, 2024 3:55 AM

Don Henley. I like his songs Dirty Laundry & The Boys Of Summer but could never warm up to him. Also Boonie Raitt.

by Anonymousreply 83March 29, 2024 3:57 AM

Just the sight of Cynthia Nixon repulses me.

by Anonymousreply 84March 29, 2024 4:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 85March 29, 2024 4:05 AM

Julia Roberts

by Anonymousreply 86March 29, 2024 4:09 AM

I know I know. And I wasn't the first school marm to remark about it in this thread. But still!

by Anonymousreply 87March 29, 2024 4:09 AM

Oh, yeah: and another asshole who always made me want to slap him was Christian Slater.

by Anonymousreply 88March 29, 2024 4:10 AM

My mother was really good at this stuff. She said she didn't like Merv Griffin because his butt poked out from the pleats of his suit jacket. She didn't like Karen Black because "she should have crossed her legs". she hated Gene Rayburn because she "didn't like the way his lips moved"

by Anonymousreply 89March 29, 2024 4:11 AM

Another one that bugs me is Jessica Chastain. Not sure why. I liked her in The Eyes of Tammy Faye but everything else when she's not in 10 lbs of makeup and a biography role, I don't care for her. I don't think she's a bad actress, or that she's unattractive. She just bugs me.

by Anonymousreply 110March 29, 2024 4:42 PM

Angelina Jolie. I have millions of reasons, but don’t want to get bawled out.

by Anonymousreply 111March 29, 2024 5:33 PM

Timothy Spall. I have no identifiable reason for it, but I've loathed him from first sight. I even had an immediate visceral reaction to his cartoon character in Enchanted before I knew he was the actor voicing it.

I also took an immediate dislike to Lindsay Price ages ago, but have since filled in reasons like her lack of acting talent and twee, cutesy delivery in every role.

by Anonymousreply 128April 1, 2024 12:20 AM

Reese Witherspoon. I just can't.

by Anonymousreply 129April 1, 2024 12:40 AM

by Anonymousreply 130April 1, 2024 12:43 AM

Donald Trump. Enough said.

by Anonymousreply 142April 1, 2024 3:58 AM

Florence Pugh! I don’t understand how she landed anything beyond a pharmaceutical commercials. She’s not a bad actress and she’s never said anything to put me off but there is something very common about her.

She’s like an American Idol winner. You know how most American Idol winners are talented people who would have never gotten record contracts cause they have no it factor or conventional star quality? That’s Florence.

Austin Butler. I don’t understand why he got anything past the Disney channel. I get that Hollywood is in desperate needs of stars but him seriously?

by Anonymousreply 147April 1, 2024 5:22 AM

The Core Four - Chalamet, Zendaya, Butler, and Pugh. I’m not buying anything studio executives, publicists, and entertainment outlets say about them. They are not the future. They are not movie stars. They have no on screen persona or presence. It’s not them that are carrying the beloved legacy films; it is the beloved legacy films that are doing the carrying. James Cordon (looks like he could sell fish and chips at Brighton Beach)

Conan O Brien (simply not funny. Never ever)

Adam Driver (can’t abide his face)

Emily Blunt (she has a mean vibe)

Hoda Kotb, and I really mean for no apparent reason. I've never watched the morning show that she's on, I'm not in the habit of watching network specials where she may be hosting or doing something like that. All I know is from the ads for whatever TV show she hosts or has hosted before. Simply put, I just don't like the cut of her jib.

by Anonymousreply 155April 1, 2024 9:37 AM

by Anonymousreply 181April 3, 2024 7:11 PM

Ooh, ooh. I thought of another one: Maya Rudolph. I’d be lying if I said I hated her for no reason, though. She has earned my wrath in abundance by being unfunny, but, worse than that, by being smug in her unfunniness. She’s like one of the cool kids in school who didn’t really earn their reputation but got it through having made fortunate associations with those who did.

Marie Osmond, since I just saw her on a commercial. Yuck. She’s so brassy and phony and she’s been that way forever. I can’t believe she’s a Mormon as I thought they were supposed to be about wholesome modesty.

Off the top of head, in no particular order:

Will Farrell

Michael Cera

Bradley Cooper

Peter Dinklage

Jeremy Renner

But honestly the far larger list would be actors I feel completely nothing about. Indifference, more than ambivalence. That would encompass most of Hollywood. And there are several who make my skin crawl, but then that would be for a reason.

by Anonymousreply 234April 8, 2024 5:27 PM

R234, his smile and laugh are creepy. There is a phoniness there. And that's always been the case. I think it's really interesting that many of the biggest 90s stars--Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts--have all been taken down a few notches from the pedestal they were on in the 90s.

R238, agreed. He works best in movies where that is exploited. I know a lot of peopel here think Tom Cruise is bad in Eyes Wide Shut but I think he is perfectly cast. Kubrick cast him for the same reason he cast Ryan O'Neal in Barry Lyndon.

I like Michelle more than Barack. I voted for him but he's always seemed cold and fake to me.

by Anonymousreply 282April 11, 2024 4:52 AM

R282, he's definitely not one to schmooze or make small talk with others. Which is very important when you want to connect with other politicians/leaders. That's something Shinzo Abe noted.

by Anonymousreply 283April 11, 2024 12:31 PM

That's one of the reasons Obama and Merkel got on well--both are cerebral and no-nonsense

by Anonymousreply 284April 11, 2024 12:32 PM

I never viewed Barack Obama as fake. But I felt that sometimes he was too disciplined. He seems so calm. A friend told me that was a kind of trait in people from Hawaii. Most of them are laid back and calm. Barack also struck me as someone who had a lot of turbulence in their personal life growing up, so they didn't like volatile situations with lots of yelling or emotional outbursts. Which is curious because Michelle seems more than capable of being volatile and emotional. IMO she seems fakish. Whatever. I'm glad Barack Obama is engaged politically and actively supporting Joe.

by Anonymousreply 285April 11, 2024 1:06 PM

I always saw Michelle Obama as extremely geniune. She didn't want to become famous at all, and never craved the limelight. She just wanted to run her practice and raise her family, and was interviewed saying as much during the initial campaigns. She used her forced upon platform to do great things while being foisted into the public eye. Her photo ops and smiles lways seem a touch awkward, because she's still not loving that kind of attention. That awkwardness probably comes across as fake to some people.

by Anonymousreply 286April 11, 2024 1:59 PM

People on DL have commented that they interacted with Michelle in Chicago and she was dismissive and rude. Not sure how true that is. But that's what DL is for.

by Anonymousreply 287April 11, 2024 2:32 PM

R287, rude does not equal fake....think about it.

by Anonymousreply 288April 11, 2024 3:06 PM

R288, I know that. I was just posting what others have said.

by Anonymousreply 289April 11, 2024 3:20 PM

Blake Lively. And it has nothing to do with any jealousy about her getting boned by Ryan Reynolds on the regular.

by Anonymousreply 290April 11, 2024 3:35 PM

Meryl Streep

by Anonymousreply 291April 11, 2024 3:37 PM

If Michelle doesn't want to be famous she sure has a hell of a way to show it. I think she was sincere in saying that early in Barack's 2008 campaign. I think it took a lot of adjusting for her. But she was successful, and popular and hey, she has obviously grown comfortable with it. When I said she seemed fakish, I didn't mean a phony per se, I mean that I always have the impression that she has to make an effort to be nice. She does not seem like a warm person to me in spite of the show she makes of hugging people.

by Anonymousreply 292April 11, 2024 3:43 PM

Ben Platt. I realize he has talent but I just can’t stand him and avoid his shows.

by Anonymousreply 293April 11, 2024 3:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 294April 11, 2024 4:12 PM

OK. Since he died today, and the national news media is making it an event, I will say O. J.. Simpson. I never liked him. Ever. Long before he murdered his wife and a restaurant worker. Of course I never followed football, and never saw those cop movies with Leslie Nielsen.

by Anonymousreply 295April 11, 2024 8:59 PM

People say OJ Simpson was very charming. I think if you were a football fan and stopped him for an autograph, he would probably be very friendly and accommodating.

However, in interviews, that guy cannot stop talking. What a windbag.

And yes I voted for him - twice.

(Sorry I know this is an off-topic derail)

by Anonymousreply 303April 12, 2024 12:14 AM

It seems like Obama would like to not be as involved in Politics any more, even though he is actively help Joe with fund raising and speeches. I mean there are periods when he is hardly visible at all and seems to disappear from the public stage, and then he is out here at some fundraiser for Joe. Now, I know ex Potus has to raise money for their Library. And he and Michelle are busy building their post presidential lives. But they still live in Washington D.C. in a gorgeous house. And they have their place in Chicago just for show mostly. And there's a rumor he has a house on Martha's Vineyard. And they're often seen traveling abroad. I have to wonder if he is doing some consulting work the same way the Bushes and Bill Clinton did.

It's different for Bill and Hillary. Both of them are active and I follow them on Instagram Facebook and Twitter, Hillary is on Threads too. Former Potus Clinton is very busy with his Global Initiative and does a lot of public appearances. Hillary is chancellor of a University in Scotland, she is actively involved with international women's groups on issues, and she is always speaking out on political issues, throwing shade on Trump. It's a huge contrast with the Obamas.

by Anonymousreply 315April 12, 2024 7:44 PM

R314, no, I just thought the way she was pushed as this sexy, beautiful, heterosexual woman that loads of men found hot was just irritating and weird since she was clearly (in my opinion) NONE of those things. And she has the charisma of a deceased Jon Benet Ramsey.

by Anonymousreply 316April 12, 2024 7:58 PM
