Ratboy as Bob Dylan
Photos of Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan have been popping up all over the place as the Wonka and Dune superstar films the biopic A Complete Unknown in New York City. This week, the actor was spotted again in character as the legendary folk music hit-maker at locations around the Big Apple.
Chalamet was spotted in Downtown Manhattan in a classic Dylan look: curly hair, sunglasses (even though it was a night shoot), black button-up, and brown jacket. Scenes were being shot around El Quijote, the restaurant inside the Hotel Chelsea, where Dylan notably found musical inspiration.

They’re both mumbly, so it could work?

Ratboy looks like a clown.

Cate Blanchett did a decent job portraying him, I can't imagine Chalamet will do better.

This isn’t a biopic, but more a slice of life. If you’ve seen Chalamet do the monologue from Death of a Salesman in Miss Stevens, you can see there’s something there. I, personally, don’t get the hate.

Chalamet lacks Blanchett's masculinity.

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for him.

Still from the costume fitting rushes...

I didn’t think this was ever going to get made. Anyway this doesn’t look like a transformation. This is the work of a hair and costume department and even the hair looks all wrong.

Mediocre actor dons period hair and costume.
Give him all the awards.

He looks like a filthy rich fils-a-papa from a French grande ecole, who stopped at Lanvin and Hermès to dump 50k on immaculate brown causal clothes, hair by David Mallett, for his Bob Dylan costume at a Halloween Party at the American Embassy.

He looks the part. But can't act. Flexing a muscle in your jaw isn't acting.

R17 Well it made me a star.

I for once agree with that decision because Bob Dylan looks like a nasty ass critter too.

Incidentally, I have always preferred his son, Jakob. 😍
In both looks and voice. 🥰

So apparently he’s a “producer” on this. You know he’s going to be elite and demand that the film be released exclusively in theaters with no streaming option.

R11 That’s one of my favorite songs of all time.
I have zero confidence that Ratboy will make me believe he IS Dylan, in the way that, say, Philip Seymour Hoffman made me believe he was Capote. He looks like a kid trying to look like a grown-up. Terrible casting.

R7: People said the same thing about Wonka. I don't want to jinx anything but this looks like a dreary biopic.

I loved Chalamet in CMBYN and hated him in everything else, especially his screeching, emoting, dreadul hamming in "Beautiful Boy." Can't speak for "Dune" and other things because, well, Dune.
This Dylan thing seems well cast though; I always thought of Dylan as a wannabe (everything about him is borrowed, stolen and fake from bona fide folk singers, from the name on down) but Dylan definitely has talent and created some beautiful songs. Still -- he's a poseur. And Chalamet totally fits the bill. As for all the hoopla about Chalamet using his real voice to sing Dylan.....??? Dylan's voice is hardly the height of his legend.
But I think my favorite part of this that, after all the fallout from Bradley Cooper's nose in his turn as Leonard Bernstein, Chalamet was given a half-Bob Dylan nose -- commensurate with Chalamet's half-Jewish ethnicity --- presumably to calm the critics.

R31 I think there are many great, great, watershed artists who are "borrowed poseurs"... I mean from Lord Byron on.
I liked CMYBN a lot when it first came out... thought Chalamet's last scene, looking right into the camera and crying with heartbreak, was something that absolutely shouldn't have worked, and he made it work. Everything else he's seemed miscast. When first announced I though his playing Dylan was just another stupid casting... but we will see.

Chalamet haters would have preferred Billy Porter.

Too bad he's an awful human being to the little people behind the scenes. Also, our we sure he's straight?

He’s somewhat passable as a semi-pubescent, non-threatening actor suitable for tripe like Charlie, but as much as Hollywood wants him to happen…not so much.

I'll wait for reviews or another trailer. Based on that trailer alone, he doesn't even deserve a nomination.
