There will be one last Downton film. At least for now. I’m sure they will make more eventually!

It would be worthwhile to see how the family handles the Depression and WWII.

by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 20, 2024 9:37 PM |
I predict it will be the Final Movie before the launch of
Downton Abbey, The Next Generation: 1935.

I don’t remember her in DA?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 20, 2024 9:46 PM |
She was in the first movie. Don't know about the second, haven't seen it.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 20, 2024 9:54 PM |
It will take place in the 60s. Downton Abbey A-Go-Go.

Wonder if they can find a way to work Barrow back into the story?
Maybe visiting with his rich actor sugar daddy who is doing a film in London? But that would require bringing back Dominic West and if Dominic West is in it then Lily James' Cousin Rose won't be in it lest Mrs. West the castle owner shows up and strangles Lily by her scrawny little neck.
I'd like both Barrow and Cousin Rose to be in the movie. But I also want Barrow to be doing well and not come groveling back. I'm sure Rob James-Collier would also like Barrow in the movie. Has Rob been working much?
Paul Giamatti is in it so maybe he marries the poor Baroness with the gold-digging father after all.

Bets on how they'll find a way to include the dowager countess in this.
Flashbacks,
Judgmental Ghost,
Necromancy
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 21, 2024 2:44 PM |
Here's the preview! They are shaking it up with some wild and crazy characters, including a lovable dog!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 21, 2024 2:57 PM |
Downton was at its best when it focused on the impact of changing times on the aristocracy with WWI - how the war changed society, the role of women, and the financial impact of changing technology, factories, and the shift to urban life.
I think their best bet is to focus similarly on how the Depression impacted Downton and the Crawleys - something immediately post-depression.

I simply don't do impoverished nobility I'm afraid.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 21, 2024 3:10 PM |
Imelda was in the second movie and shared scenes with her hubby which must have been nice for them.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 21, 2024 3:15 PM |
[quote] including a lovable dog!
This time hopefully they don't get written out due to a terrorist appropriating the name!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 21, 2024 3:27 PM |
They should make Carry On Downton! as the final film in both series
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 21, 2024 3:43 PM |
Imelda Staunton is exhausting.

Gidget Goes Downton
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 21, 2024 3:48 PM |
This could possibly be interesting if they either focus on the repercussions of the stock market crash
OR
Jump 10 years (ish) ahead, where all of Europe is headed back to war.
All of the younger kids would be young adults, which could be very interesting.
If THAT happens, though, they'd have to do some trimming somewhere. I vote that we never have to see Daisy or those fucking Bateses again.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 21, 2024 7:51 PM |
Give people a life outside Downton, I agree. The Bates had money, so they should do something. The Carson’s need to be dying. It would be interesting to have Robert’s funeral as it could be female led, which is compulsory, with adult George having a fiancée but also an interest downstairs or in the village, Cora moving to Dower, the new pseudo aristocratic socialist branch of the family with Tom, Maude’s rando daughter, their rich kids and lonely Sybie. Barrow comes back with his man and it’s awkward, but everybody goes with it haha. Plus we could get glorious sets of the houses, especially the ridiculous Hexham palace. All against the backdrop of WWII or whatever. It practically writes itself!

I want to see Marigold learn that she was born bastard and that her mother was a wayward woman.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 22, 2024 2:26 AM |
Julian could have Marigold’s old suspected disability be violent, then have the Pelhams commit her to keep up appearances with their legit children. It would make a perfect Edith villain arc, and a great wartime ghost story for a flash-forward. Downton could stand to be darker in tone.

it is so.

Downton Abbey is in a tizzy because Vera Lynn is coming to visit.
And Thomas Barrow shows up with a young writer named Christopher Isherwood in tow.

If there's one thing we can count on it's that Mrs. Hughes will tell us the times are changing at Downton Abbey.

I don't see the Henry Talbot actor's name in the list of returning actors.
Will Mary be widowed again or divorced?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 17, 2024 4:57 PM |
I wondered about that too, R32. The character was a dud anyway. The away on business angle was always pretty lame. The thing is divorce back then was really bad, so my money is on Lady Mary's death vagina striking again. Black widow mating is always entertaining anyway, better than that knock off oh, darling, you're mad Noel Coward banter they tried to create with Mary and Henry. Pukeworthy even for the low standards of the Downton films. Though I suppose the old people love it.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 17, 2024 5:49 PM |
Imelda seems to be in everything, everywhere all the time. Inescapable*. Makes one feel like living in a small city with a tiny theater where the mayors wife/actress gets all the plumm parts.
They should through in *Emily Blunt and Jamie Lee Curtis (think ShirleyMc Laine-ish) and we have threads for the ages.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 17, 2024 8:48 PM |
They are milking this too much. The first film was fine, the second one much less so. It was basically pandering to the audience. I have no intention of seeing a third film.
The TV series and the first film is where it should have ended.
