What are Karma Points on Reddit?

And how do I get them? I just joined Reddit- left a few comments but they were erased due to lack of karma points. How do I get karma points enough to post a comment.

by Anonymousreply 26April 11, 2024 4:22 PM

Same way you get them here-- Venmo me $5.

by Anonymousreply 1March 14, 2024 4:49 PM

Post on the more general subreddits that don't require any karma points for a week or two, then you'll be able to post on subreddits that have stricter karma and account age rules as well.

My going rate is $2

by Anonymousreply 3March 14, 2024 4:53 PM

you get karma from getting your threads or comments upvoted - same thing as ww. there are subreddits where you can farm karma to bypass the prerequisites for other subs faster.

by Anonymousreply 4March 14, 2024 5:05 PM

FYI: one might be able to cross link Datalounge posters with Reddit accounts on the Datalounge subreddit by karma points alone.

by Anonymousreply 5March 14, 2024 5:08 PM

I have no idea how or why I got them, but I have 9.9k.

by Anonymousreply 6March 14, 2024 10:28 PM

You sometimes need to be a member of the sub for a week or two before you can post. Once you start posting, you gain karma from people liking your posts.

by Anonymousreply 7March 14, 2024 10:32 PM

I mean, upvoting ^^

by Anonymousreply 8March 14, 2024 10:33 PM

You can ask Muriel to transfer some of your WWs to Reddit.

by Anonymousreply 9March 14, 2024 10:33 PM

They are much like WW's here.

Once you comment on things and get a few you're in good standing, and unless you have a serious downvote on some opinion or are a troll, you'll be fine. It's just a bitch when you first start out.

Subreddits have their own rules. Some may require you to have a minimum karma number to comment.

by Anonymousreply 11March 14, 2024 10:44 PM

I know for the hot porn reddits I had to have a certain # of karma points before the photos were unblurred.

by Anonymousreply 12March 14, 2024 10:50 PM

Can I trade them in for Frequent Flyer Miles?

by Anonymousreply 13March 15, 2024 3:07 AM

r13 I do it often - points/cash combo

by Anonymousreply 14March 15, 2024 3:18 AM

That sounds so weird.

by Anonymousreply 15March 15, 2024 3:32 AM

Karma karma karma karma karma chameleon.....

by Anonymousreply 16March 15, 2024 3:32 AM

As someone who mods a few subs on Reddit, you can program the AutoModerator to automatically remove posts from users that are less than [x] days old and set a minimum karma requirement of [x]. This is to mitigate spam.

Larger subs like r/funny, r/cats, and r/pics typically don't have karma requirements. I would steer clear of r/politics or r/news if the goal is to gain karma points from upvotes. Comments in lighthearted large subs are the way to go to build your karma.

You get bonus points every time you say “ma’am, this is a Wendy’s”.

Every time a redditor hears they they cream their pants multiple times.

by Anonymousreply 18March 15, 2024 4:04 AM

I have almost 300K karma on reddit.

I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

by Anonymousreply 19March 15, 2024 4:11 AM

^^humble-brag

by Anonymousreply 20March 15, 2024 6:12 AM

Note that people can click on your Reddit username and see your entire comment and posting history, as the Kevin Sessums saddo stalkers learned the hard way.

by Anonymousreply 21March 15, 2024 7:41 AM

How do I find out how much karma I have?

by Anonymousreply 22April 11, 2024 2:28 PM

Depends on what platform and which version of the interface you're using. It's under your username, generally.

by Anonymousreply 23April 11, 2024 2:35 PM

Nah, not there. I don’t use the app.

by Anonymousreply 24April 11, 2024 4:18 PM

If you're on browser, it's under your username in the top right corner on any page you're on. Just make sure you're browsing in full screen.

by Anonymousreply 25April 11, 2024 4:20 PM

Oh, I see now, they changed it in their recent UI refresh. You have to click on your profile icon in the top right corner to see your karma now.
