“ Chalamet already gets to cash in on the box office riches he spun from visiting Arrakis and a world of pure imagination. The actor earned more than $8 million for “Wonka,” according to sources. Now, he’s getting a salary bump and looking at paydays in the double digits for leading roles in studio films. Warner Bros. and Legendary don’t have a contract yet for “Dune: Part Three,” but director Denis Villeneuve has been vocal about wanting to make it, so Chalamet’s salary could surge for future installments after the success of the sequel.”
Timmy is young Hollywoods highest paid actor after “Wonka” and “Dune 2”

Why can't Chalamet just die? You too OP.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 14, 2024 12:57 AM |
He lacks much physical presence but I still thought he was pretty good in Dune.
I haven’t seen the Wonka thing because I fucking hate when Hollywood makes something that’s SUPPOSED to be mysterious into something that’s overexplained to absolute death. That has the feel of exploiting super fans, which usually ends up ruining the character. (Boba Fett, anyone?)

To be fair what competition is there? There's Austin Butler next, Tom Holland is stuck at a film every 5 years with Marvel, maybe Keoghan and Elordi though they seem stuck on less well paying indie films and then I don't know after that... Finn Wolfhard?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 14, 2024 2:24 AM |
R10: Wonka was not a good movie and not an 8 million dollar performance.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 14, 2024 2:26 AM |
There is a group in the same age group. Tom Holland/Timmy/Austin Butler/Jacob Elordi/Barry Keoghan/Paul Mescal. Glenn Powell is a little older, at 35, but he’s being pushed right now too and is even mentioned in that article.
Finn Wolfhard? What projects is he getting cast in? He’s always a small supporting role. No one is peddling him.

I saw the Ghostbusters trailer yesterday and was desperately trying to think of young actors in things people might actually know. Was surprisingly more difficult to make a list for this era than I think it would have been even a few years ago.

Like the article states, Tom Holland has never proven himself outside of the Spiderman franchise. In fact, everything he's done besides that has flopped. His career is not going anywhere.
Elrodi is too dull. Mescal has the same problem.
Keoghan is far too odd looking to become a big leading man.
Timmy, Austin and Charles Melton are the most interesting young actors right now.

Jacob Elordi hasn't had much luck, either.
Since hitting it big on HBO's EUPHORIA (2019 - present) his theatrical ventures like 2 HEARTS (2020), HE WENT THAT WAY (2023), SALTBURN (2023), and PRISCILLA (2023) all flopped at the box office.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 14, 2024 7:13 PM |
R45 actually, he hasn’t. It can take many years. Most people of a certain age aren’t gonna care about him because he looks so young. People in their 40s+ won’t care about him until his looks mature a bit.
But he’s leading the way for all the new young male stars, and has been since 2017.
Most of his films have been small indies. You constantly expose how much you don’t know about films. You think a film like “Bones and All” would be a blockbuster???

Wonka only made 40 million its opening weekend. Nothing else worth seeing during the holidays so it was considered a hit. Dune 2 only made 80 million its opening weekend (Barbie made 168 million). Kung Fu Panda 4 kicked Dune 2 out of first place so I wouldn’t consider Dune 2 a hit or him having star power and now can demand more money.

R130 it was a biopic about the building of the atomic bomb. Yes.

.J. Robert Oppenheimer. A real person whose existence is depicted in the film, and is the main character of the film. Which is called “Oppenheimer.”
by Anonymous | reply 134 | March 17, 2024 10:04 PM |
R134 the film is focused on the events surrounding the atomic bomb. Created by Oppenheimer. It’s not the same type of biopic as Elvis, which is focused on the persons entire life.
Don’t argue with educated people.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | March 17, 2024 10:12 PM |
Oppenheimer is a biopic, period. Arguing otherwise shows that a person is not educated.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | March 17, 2024 10:32 PM |
It’s a biopic but not the same as Elvis.

In 2018, the musical biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, based on the life of Queen singer Freddie Mercury, became the highest-grossing biopic in history at the time.[15][16][17] In 2023, it was surpassed by Oppenheimer, based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the creation of the atomic bomb in World War II. [18]

by Anonymous | reply 139 | March 17, 2024 10:37 PM |
Anyway the point is that biopics of all kinds do make money. “Judy” also made a lot of money.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | March 17, 2024 10:39 PM |
NO ONE SAID IT ISNT A BIOPIC. It’s a biopic about Oppenheimer’s time building the atomic bomb and the aftermath. That’s been said numerous times. Learn to read.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | March 17, 2024 10:40 PM |
R128 was implying it was a historical film about the atomic bomb rather than a biopic.

It seemed like this was never going to get made. They’re probably rushing this for a Christmas release and a 2025 award season run.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | March 17, 2024 11:25 PM |
Even though it’s the IP’s that are carrying him, the back to back success of Wonka and Dune 2 is probably what got this biopic finally greenlit.

Travolta led blockbusters that were not based on prior movies.
Wonka and Dune are established IP’s. These two film just happened to be released within a few months of each other and that’s why fans and Hollywood bigwigs alike are naively saying he’s the best thing to happen to the box office.

John Travolta was thr greatest superstar in the time when Grease and SNF were released. Every granny knew who he was. Now, with Timothee, the fraus in my office have no idea who he is. A 35 yo friend who went to see Dune, cause she is fan of the book, doesn't know his name, he is "that skinny kid from the Dune" Same with parents who brought kids to Wonka. He just lacks that star quality that made Travolta or Leo big stars overnight.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | March 21, 2024 8:59 AM |
Somehow, no matter that HW puts him in big blockbusters (which will have big audience even if my aunt was in it), the public refuses to remember his name. Even the showmance with a member of Kardashian family didn't help.

R164: I can’t deny that he works his ass off for fame and will say and do anything for maximum exposure - wear a blouse, pretend date a Jenner, fuck Eiza Gonzalez in a pool.
It will be interesting to see how his career unfolds from here. Will he continue to pick projects that have a draw to disguise the fact that he’s not a draw himself or will he challenge himself with something new? The Dylan biopic is arguably “IP” given its subject. It already looks like a dreary biopic and it doesn’t like he’s disappearing into the role. Timothee playing Timothee yet again.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | March 21, 2024 12:57 PM |
He’s pre-Yoda facial features now.
Gravity and age will complete the process, so he’s got to make bank now.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | March 21, 2024 1:29 PM |
R164: I'm shocked the showmance wasn't the disaster everybody thought it would be. From the moment this relationship was announced, everybody said that it would end his career and that nobody would take him seriously anymore. The PDA got more painful with each outing. While I'm sure there were some people who skipped Wonka and Dune because of it, overall it didn't seem to have that much negative impact.

I feel like Timmy would have been a huge star in the 1980s. Even his causal style reminds me of 1986, like he wears his sunglasses at night kind of vibe. He would have easily fit in with Molly Ringwald and the brat pack gang, in fact he could have made a great Duckie if Jon Cryer didn't already exist. You cannot telll me you don't see the resemblance.

Chalamet's long-term outlook on his facial features means, right now, while he still has young appeal, he's gotta reel in the dough.
Seriously he's pre-Yoda now. Gravity and time will take care of that.
I'm not invested one way or another on the Love or Hate Chalamet rumble.
For me, however, and although his part was in a small, supporting role, in "Don't Look Up", I thought he put in the best performance.
For whatever reason my favorite actor Mark Rylance phoned it in.

I'm probably alone but I hated John Cryer as an actor (I never watched 2 and 1/2 Men for that reason. Hope he improved.) His acting was hammy and amateurish. A lot of unfunny mannerisms.
I don't agree Chalamet would have been a popular Brat Pack actor (nor was John Cryer, really. He bombed after Pretty In Pink). He didn't have the same kind of sex appeal as those guys.
