Timmy is young Hollywoods highest paid actor after “Wonka” and “Dune 2”

“ Chalamet already gets to cash in on the box office riches he spun from visiting Arrakis and a world of pure imagination. The actor earned more than $8 million for “Wonka,” according to sources. Now, he’s getting a salary bump and looking at paydays in the double digits for leading roles in studio films. Warner Bros. and Legendary don’t have a contract yet for “Dune: Part Three,” but director Denis Villeneuve has been vocal about wanting to make it, so Chalamet’s salary could surge for future installments after the success of the sequel.”

I guess that means he's an INCREDIBLE actor, right OP?

by Anonymousreply 1March 13, 2024 11:47 PM

Why can't Chalamet just die? You too OP.

by Anonymousreply 2March 13, 2024 11:57 PM

He lacks much physical presence but I still thought he was pretty good in Dune.

I haven’t seen the Wonka thing because I fucking hate when Hollywood makes something that’s SUPPOSED to be mysterious into something that’s overexplained to absolute death. That has the feel of exploiting super fans, which usually ends up ruining the character. (Boba Fett, anyone?)

by Anonymousreply 3March 14, 2024 12:01 AM

I wonder if he'll ever get fat.

by Anonymousreply 4March 14, 2024 12:12 AM

This article sums it up perfectly. The Hollywood establishment, not the public, wants longevity for him because he lacks natural testosterone.

by Anonymousreply 5March 14, 2024 12:53 AM

How's that Bob Dylan film coming along OP? Good job though promoting him by revealing his salary.

by Anonymousreply 6March 14, 2024 1:13 AM

[QUOTE] Timmy is young Hollywoods highest paid actor

Timothee Chalamet: the world’s tallest midget.

by Anonymousreply 7March 14, 2024 1:17 AM

I guess he and Kylie signed a one year contract. He didn't go with her to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

by Anonymousreply 8March 14, 2024 1:22 AM

R8 he’s been preparing to film a new movie. He couldn’t go to the Oscars or Afterparty. He’s here on the East Coast.

by Anonymousreply 9March 14, 2024 1:24 AM

To be fair what competition is there? There's Austin Butler next, Tom Holland is stuck at a film every 5 years with Marvel, maybe Keoghan and Elordi though they seem stuck on less well paying indie films and then I don't know after that... Finn Wolfhard?

by Anonymousreply 10March 14, 2024 1:24 AM

R10: Wonka was not a good movie and not an 8 million dollar performance.

by Anonymousreply 11March 14, 2024 1:26 AM

There is a group in the same age group. Tom Holland/Timmy/Austin Butler/Jacob Elordi/Barry Keoghan/Paul Mescal. Glenn Powell is a little older, at 35, but he’s being pushed right now too and is even mentioned in that article.

Finn Wolfhard? What projects is he getting cast in? He’s always a small supporting role. No one is peddling him.

by Anonymousreply 12March 14, 2024 1:27 AM

[quote] Finn Wolfhard? What projects is he getting cast in? He’s always a small supporting role. No one is peddling him.

I saw the Ghostbusters trailer yesterday and was desperately trying to think of young actors in things people might actually know. Was surprisingly more difficult to make a list for this era than I think it would have been even a few years ago.

by Anonymousreply 13March 14, 2024 1:34 AM

Like the article states, Tom Holland has never proven himself outside of the Spiderman franchise. In fact, everything he's done besides that has flopped. His career is not going anywhere.

Elrodi is too dull. Mescal has the same problem.

Keoghan is far too odd looking to become a big leading man.

Timmy, Austin and Charles Melton are the most interesting young actors right now.

by Anonymousreply 14March 14, 2024 1:35 AM

The article is snarkier than you'd expect

[quote]“That was about his heart. But he’s also very savvy about marketing. He gets very engaged and brings ideas to the table.”

Showing up how fake he is.

[quote]In that sense, it’s impressive that Powell, 35, pulled off his box office feat without any pre-branded intellectual property

...and how reliant on IP he is

by Anonymousreply 16March 14, 2024 1:47 AM

He’s the worst. I hate his girly voice and muscle free body.

There really aren’t any young actors to root for outside of Michael B. Jordan.

by Anonymousreply 17March 14, 2024 1:56 AM

I almost threw up when I read that “he’s not too cool for school.”

by Anonymousreply 18March 14, 2024 2:02 AM

I guess he’s using his “star power” to get his Dylan film made.

by Anonymousreply 19March 14, 2024 2:03 AM

R14 Charles Melton? He’s Asian. He will never be leading big Hollywood films the way Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt did or the way Timmy is right now. Hate to say it but it’s true.

by Anonymousreply 20March 14, 2024 2:06 AM

R17 we’ve been rooting for him for a long time and he’s had endless success. MBJ is 37 now. He isn’t that young anymore? Especially in Hollywood. He’s happened and already a star.

by Anonymousreply 21March 14, 2024 2:08 AM

R19 he isn’t the one producing it? He was cast as Dylan by someone else because he’s Timothee Chalamet and talented. He will get people to watch.

by Anonymousreply 22March 14, 2024 2:09 AM

Is Glen the man and Timothee the woman?

by Anonymousreply 23March 14, 2024 2:21 AM

Which will be another box office bomb. How the fuck he keeps getting work I don't know.

by Anonymousreply 24March 14, 2024 2:41 AM

Another? His last few films have been hits

by Anonymousreply 25March 14, 2024 3:08 AM

Why are y'all trashing young stars? Don't be fuddy duddies. Timothee, Zendaya, Sydney, Tom are the next generation. I would expect them to begin dominating awards season very soon.

by Anonymousreply 31March 14, 2024 4:19 AM

What star power? His most successful films were IPs and he’s never been able to sell a film on his name. They tried this with Jennifer Lawrence after Hunger Games and X-Men. How are studio heads so stupid they can’t tell between IPs with pre-existing fanbases and an actor’s genuine appeal to a large audience?

by Anonymousreply 32March 14, 2024 4:21 AM

Tom Holland is a dud among the young stars. The others are doing really well.

by Anonymousreply 33March 14, 2024 4:38 AM

Star power is when you say “let’s go see the new Tom Cruise movie”.

I tried to watch Wonka on Max recently but it was so saccharine I turned it off.

by Anonymousreply 36March 14, 2024 5:07 AM

When you become box office gold like Chalamet, you get a bump in pay.

by Anonymousreply 37March 14, 2024 6:19 AM

by Anonymousreply 38March 14, 2024 12:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 39March 14, 2024 1:00 PM

[quote]Star power is when you say “let’s go see the new Tom Cruise movie”.

It didn't start off like that for Tom Cruise. He built his career, like most A list actors do. You're not being fair to Chalamet or any of the other young actors currently on the way up.

by Anonymousreply 40March 14, 2024 1:10 PM

Chalamet has reached the level where there are people going to his movies specifically to see him.

by Anonymousreply 41March 14, 2024 1:16 PM

R41: People went to see Dune because it’s a known incel property. Him and Austin Butler were at the bottom of the list of reasons.

by Anonymousreply 42March 14, 2024 1:26 PM

Not true R41. They would go to see Dune or Wonka no matter who was in it. Not even his fans were interested to see Bones and all in theatres.

by Anonymousreply 43March 14, 2024 1:28 PM

[quote] Not even his fans were interested to see Bones and all in theatres.

Chalamet has reached the level now where there are people going to his movies specifically to see him. It takes time to become a star like he has become.

by Anonymousreply 44March 14, 2024 1:37 PM

R44: Honey he’s had plenty of time to prove he’s a draw on his name alone. He had plenty of movies, fawning magazine profiles, and fauxmances prior to Bones & All.

by Anonymousreply 45March 14, 2024 1:42 PM

R45, yes, and now he can enjoy being the box office superstar that those things have led him to become.

by Anonymousreply 46March 14, 2024 1:45 PM

Only when he is in some powerful franchise like Dune or Wonka. He hasn't managed to become the household name. People would tell you: kid from the Dune or Wonka. Fraus from my office have no idea who he is. It is not like Leo after Titanic was out.

by Anonymousreply 47March 14, 2024 5:40 PM

[quote]Tom Holland is a dud among the young stars. The others are doing really well.

Jacob Elordi hasn't had much luck, either.

Since hitting it big on HBO's EUPHORIA (2019 - present) his theatrical ventures like 2 HEARTS (2020), HE WENT THAT WAY (2023), SALTBURN (2023), and PRISCILLA (2023) all flopped at the box office.

by Anonymousreply 48March 14, 2024 6:13 PM

R45 actually, he hasn’t. It can take many years. Most people of a certain age aren’t gonna care about him because he looks so young. People in their 40s+ won’t care about him until his looks mature a bit.

But he’s leading the way for all the new young male stars, and has been since 2017.

Most of his films have been small indies. You constantly expose how much you don’t know about films. You think a film like “Bones and All” would be a blockbuster???

by Anonymousreply 49March 14, 2024 6:13 PM

R48 lmao. You’re pathetic. Saltburn and Priscilla didn’t flop.

by Anonymousreply 50March 14, 2024 6:14 PM

R50 SALTBURN and PRISCILLA grossed $21 million and $32 million, respectively.

Their production budgets were around $20 million for both.

They didn't recoup, never mind make a profit.

Compare to ANYONE BUT YOU, which had a budget of $25 million and grossed $212 million.

by Anonymousreply 52March 14, 2024 6:28 PM

Having reached the upper echelon of box office stars, he’ll have his pick of scripts too.

by Anonymousreply 53March 14, 2024 7:35 PM

Wonka only made 40 million its opening weekend. Nothing else worth seeing during the holidays so it was considered a hit. Dune 2 only made 80 million its opening weekend (Barbie made 168 million). Kung Fu Panda 4 kicked Dune 2 out of first place so I wouldn’t consider Dune 2 a hit or him having star power and now can demand more money.

by Anonymousreply 61March 15, 2024 12:39 AM

R61 you don’t know what you’re talking about and you thinking what a film opens with is what matters shows this.

Mangold and Chalamet aren't fooling around. They want to film before the next pandemic, union strike, Martian invasion, etc.

by Anonymousreply 97March 17, 2024 5:39 PM

R96 Are you? I meant film star. That’s what we’ve been talking about in the thread, genius.

by Anonymousreply 98March 17, 2024 5:41 PM

This really will be the “can he put butts in seats” test. If it will be released in theaters, I think streaming or better yet a limited series would’ve been better. Nobody wants to see a Bob Dylan biopic and the last Dylan film “I’m Not There” was a massive flop. Also, Dylan is too outdated for Chalamet’s Gen Z fans.

by Anonymousreply 99March 17, 2024 5:43 PM

He knows he’s still too young to win an Oscar and that the Academy hates giving Oscars to young men but he’s coming for that second Oscar nomination. If he promised to go away on the condition you reward him with an Oscar, I still wouldn’t do it because they never mean it when they say they’re taking a break or retiring.

by Anonymousreply 101March 17, 2024 5:46 PM

I don’t get any box office vibes for a biopic on Bob Dylan. He’s unknown to younger audiences and his singing voice is unpleasant.

by Anonymousreply 102March 17, 2024 5:48 PM

R98 he’s a pop star. Very few of them translate to film well and are taken seriously, and when they do it’s usually a female. It’s stunt casting.

Styles isn’t an actor. Both the films they released hoping his star power would carry bombed.

by Anonymousreply 103March 17, 2024 5:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 124March 17, 2024 8:17 PM

R119 Elvis is one of the biggest names in pop culture and beloved. The fact he’s the 3rd highest grossing since the 70s proves my point. Biopics don’t earn the numbers you seem to think.

Bob Dylan isn’t pulling Elvis money and certainly not pulling Freddie Mercury money. Hell, he probably won’t even pull Elton money.

by Anonymousreply 125March 17, 2024 8:19 PM

R125 Your arguments make no sense. And that doesn’t prove your point. A biopic isn’t successful based on how big a name the subject of it is. The #1 biopic on the list is about Bob Marley. Some very successful biopics are about obscure people. And by the way, Oppenheimer was a huge hit and just won Best Picture.

by Anonymousreply 132March 17, 2024 9:00 PM

R130 it was a biopic about the building of the atomic bomb. Yes.

by Anonymousreply 133March 17, 2024 9:00 PM

.J. Robert Oppenheimer. A real person whose existence is depicted in the film, and is the main character of the film. Which is called “Oppenheimer.”

by Anonymousreply 134March 17, 2024 9:04 PM

R134 the film is focused on the events surrounding the atomic bomb. Created by Oppenheimer. It’s not the same type of biopic as Elvis, which is focused on the persons entire life.

Don’t argue with educated people.

by Anonymousreply 135March 17, 2024 9:12 PM

Oppenheimer is a biopic, period. Arguing otherwise shows that a person is not educated.

by Anonymousreply 136March 17, 2024 9:32 PM

It’s a biopic but not the same as Elvis.

by Anonymousreply 137March 17, 2024 9:33 PM

Yes, one was about a singer and one was about a scientist.

by Anonymousreply 138March 17, 2024 9:36 PM

In 2018, the musical biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, based on the life of Queen singer Freddie Mercury, became the highest-grossing biopic in history at the time.[15][16][17] In 2023, it was surpassed by Oppenheimer, based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the creation of the atomic bomb in World War II. [18]

—Wikipedia article, “Biopic”

by Anonymousreply 139March 17, 2024 9:37 PM

Anyway the point is that biopics of all kinds do make money. “Judy” also made a lot of money.

by Anonymousreply 140March 17, 2024 9:39 PM

NO ONE SAID IT ISNT A BIOPIC. It’s a biopic about Oppenheimer’s time building the atomic bomb and the aftermath. That’s been said numerous times. Learn to read.

by Anonymousreply 141March 17, 2024 9:40 PM

R128 was implying it was a historical film about the atomic bomb rather than a biopic.

by Anonymousreply 142March 17, 2024 9:43 PM

Seriously whose cock is he sucking? There are other actors who act circles around him but none of them are available?

by Anonymousreply 143March 17, 2024 10:24 PM

It seemed like this was never going to get made. They’re probably rushing this for a Christmas release and a 2025 award season run.

by Anonymousreply 144March 17, 2024 10:25 PM

Even though it’s the IP’s that are carrying him, the back to back success of Wonka and Dune 2 is probably what got this biopic finally greenlit.

by Anonymousreply 145March 17, 2024 10:34 PM

Whatever do you mean R143? Are you trying to say that Timmy is not making on talent alone?

by Anonymousreply 146March 17, 2024 10:36 PM

I read that on the heels 👠 of Wonka/Dune he’s SHATTERED John Travolta’s box office record set by Saturday Night Fever/Grease and is thus considered the 🆕 John Travolta!

by Anonymousreply 155March 21, 2024 4:00 AM

He looks like Kristy McNichol.

by Anonymousreply 156March 21, 2024 4:05 AM

[quote] He looks like Kristy McNichol.

Does that make me straight?

by Anonymousreply 157March 21, 2024 4:11 AM

Travolta led blockbusters that were not based on prior movies.

Wonka and Dune are established IP’s. These two film just happened to be released within a few months of each other and that’s why fans and Hollywood bigwigs alike are naively saying he’s the best thing to happen to the box office.

by Anonymousreply 158March 21, 2024 4:19 AM

What does IP possess?

by Anonymousreply 159March 21, 2024 4:24 AM

Careful r158….if you contorts yourself any further, you might break a rib

Timmy is A list Oscar nominated bankable worldwide super star

It’s hilarious to see you deny reality

by Anonymousreply 160March 21, 2024 4:32 AM

by Anonymousreply 161March 21, 2024 4:38 AM

R154 he is epitome of male beauty to pedos

by Anonymousreply 162March 21, 2024 7:52 AM

John Travolta was thr greatest superstar in the time when Grease and SNF were released. Every granny knew who he was. Now, with Timothee, the fraus in my office have no idea who he is. A 35 yo friend who went to see Dune, cause she is fan of the book, doesn't know his name, he is "that skinny kid from the Dune" Same with parents who brought kids to Wonka. He just lacks that star quality that made Travolta or Leo big stars overnight.

by Anonymousreply 163March 21, 2024 7:59 AM

Somehow, no matter that HW puts him in big blockbusters (which will have big audience even if my aunt was in it), the public refuses to remember his name. Even the showmance with a member of Kardashian family didn't help.

by Anonymousreply 164March 21, 2024 8:04 AM

R163 And which actors Chalamet's age DO the fraus in yor office and grannies know?

by Anonymousreply 165March 21, 2024 11:43 AM

by Anonymousreply 166March 21, 2024 11:43 AM

R164: I can’t deny that he works his ass off for fame and will say and do anything for maximum exposure - wear a blouse, pretend date a Jenner, fuck Eiza Gonzalez in a pool.

It will be interesting to see how his career unfolds from here. Will he continue to pick projects that have a draw to disguise the fact that he’s not a draw himself or will he challenge himself with something new? The Dylan biopic is arguably “IP” given its subject. It already looks like a dreary biopic and it doesn’t like he’s disappearing into the role. Timothee playing Timothee yet again.

by Anonymousreply 167March 21, 2024 11:57 AM

He’s pre-Yoda facial features now.

Gravity and age will complete the process, so he’s got to make bank now.

by Anonymousreply 168March 21, 2024 12:29 PM

R164: I'm shocked the showmance wasn't the disaster everybody thought it would be. From the moment this relationship was announced, everybody said that it would end his career and that nobody would take him seriously anymore. The PDA got more painful with each outing. While I'm sure there were some people who skipped Wonka and Dune because of it, overall it didn't seem to have that much negative impact.

by Anonymousreply 169March 24, 2024 1:14 AM

It was announced?

by Anonymousreply 170March 24, 2024 3:52 AM

No, both movies combined have hit $1 billion.

by Anonymousreply 179March 27, 2024 1:33 AM

I feel like Timmy would have been a huge star in the 1980s. Even his causal style reminds me of 1986, like he wears his sunglasses at night kind of vibe. He would have easily fit in with Molly Ringwald and the brat pack gang, in fact he could have made a great Duckie if Jon Cryer didn't already exist. You cannot telll me you don't see the resemblance.

Chalamet's long-term outlook on his facial features means, right now, while he still has young appeal, he's gotta reel in the dough.

Seriously he's pre-Yoda now. Gravity and time will take care of that.

I'm not invested one way or another on the Love or Hate Chalamet rumble.

For me, however, and although his part was in a small, supporting role, in "Don't Look Up", I thought he put in the best performance.

For whatever reason my favorite actor Mark Rylance phoned it in.

I'm probably alone but I hated John Cryer as an actor (I never watched 2 and 1/2 Men for that reason. Hope he improved.) His acting was hammy and amateurish. A lot of unfunny mannerisms.

I don't agree Chalamet would have been a popular Brat Pack actor (nor was John Cryer, really. He bombed after Pretty In Pink). He didn't have the same kind of sex appeal as those guys.
