[quote] "The apartment in the original Boys in the Band."

It belonged to actress (and by then ex-wife of Christopher Plummer) Tammy Grimes. The patio shots were filmed on location. The interior was re-created on a sound stage at Chelsea Studios in NYC.

If all of them existed as portrayed in their respective films...

The home from "On Golden Pond" (still there, and can be rented), the humble Big Sur beach house from "The Sandpiper" (the entire house was eventually moved 200 miles north), the John Lautner house used in "A Single Man", the hacienda-style house (on a full ranch) from "It's Complicated", the Victorian from "Practical Magic" (which Streisand tried to buy, funnily enough), the house from "What Lies Beneath" (built in Vermont's DAR State Park), and Rosehill Cottage from "The Holiday".

by Anonymousreply 66March 14, 2024 12:55 PM

I thought the apartment in Dial M for Murder was kind of drab and cramped. I didn't like the fact that the bedroom was right off the living room. But I loved the oriental lamp, yellow and blue, on the desk.

However. If you've ever watched The Reluctant Debutante, a 60's ish Rom Com with Rex Harrison, Kay Kendall, Angela Lansbury, Sandra Dee and John Saxon, now that was a flat, or apartment I could definitely live in.

My favorite movie house is “Gull Cottage” in “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” (1947).

I once went to the public beach at Dana Point, CA, which reminded me of the location for “Ghost and Mrs. Muir,” so many of the details were similar. But I later learned the actual location used was north of Hollywood.

R118 Yes, $1.3 mil is steep for 800+ sq ft. But this building is situated on a hillside where almost every residence is its own botanical garden—some buildings with striking architecture, some ordinary, but all with views of the SF Bay. Nothing like it.

For those who liked the Parent Trap home (preferably with Brian Keith in his prime), Marina Coates of the YouTube channel Mockingbird Lane did a re-creation of the home. This is part 1.

The beach house in Mildred Pierce (the old movie, not the TV series).

I like the map of the coast of SoCal painted on the mirror over the bar.

By the way, here's the actual home used for the Pierce home in Glendale. (In the movie, the house has an upstairs, despite it looking like this on the outside).

[quote]I loved the house Cary Grant's old grandmother lived in in An Affair to Remember. It was on a gorgeous island.

Not an island, but in Villefranche-sur-Mer, just east of Nice.

Love this topic.

I'm not even a beach/mountain/island lover, which all the more reason why I don't know why that Martinique house he flies her to fascinates me.

I liked the exterior of Norma Desmond's mansion in Sunset Blvd. but the interior was designed as a set so bears no similarity.

Thanks, R155, that makes sense since they were on a cruise ship. Stopping in Nice would be a regular part of a cruise Itinerary. I've always wanted to go to Nice and the small picturesque towns along the coast in the south of France. St. Jean Cap Ferrat is one I always think of.
