Ryan Gosling sings "I'm Just Ken" at the Oscars. The song sucks.

It's simply not catchy, his voice is crappy and his performance is stiff. I thought he'd have better moves since he starred in La La Land. Maybe the relentless hype ruined it for me? No... it's just lame.

Ryan Goaling

by Anonymousreply 1March 11, 2024 11:57 PM

I enjoyed the performance last night, it livened things up.

by Anonymousreply 2March 12, 2024 12:06 AM

His performance of it was hysterical. If you don't get it OP that's fine. It was a brilliant parody of contemplative male power ballads from the '80s. Having Slash show up was a delicious touch. Maybe you're unaware of the genre they were having fun with.

by Anonymousreply 3March 12, 2024 12:09 AM

Yeah. It was the highlight of the show.

by Anonymousreply 4March 12, 2024 12:11 AM

Gosling's back-up dancers were over-dressed in tuxes. They should have looked more like Ken in board shorts and T-shirts. Yes, it was a spectacle, but the production had all the appeal of cardboard.

by Anonymousreply 5March 12, 2024 12:15 AM

r3 What songs would you say this is a parody of? Something like "Mighty Wings" by Cheap Trick?

Jeez. Some people suck the fun out of everything.

by Anonymousreply 7March 12, 2024 12:21 AM

Ryan's performance was the highlight of the entire show! Few people could have pulled off a live, one-off performance in front of a global audience like he did. And it wasn't just coming up from the audience and signing a song (ala Gaga and Cooper), but a full-on "production". It's the one part of the 2024 Oscars people will watch for years to come.

by Anonymousreply 8March 12, 2024 12:21 AM

Loved it!

by Anonymousreply 9March 12, 2024 12:21 AM

[quote] It's the one part of the 2024 Oscars people will watch for years to come.

You're easily entertained, aren't you.

by Anonymousreply 10March 12, 2024 12:22 AM

He ruined the movie. It became all about whiny Ken and his poor little feelings.

by Anonymousreply 11March 12, 2024 12:24 AM

I love the performance and the visuals but OP is right the song does suck. Ryan does a great job putting life into that shitty song.

R3 Yeah but not really. Whoever wrote it sounds like they don’t actually listen to or like 80’s hair metal.

by Anonymousreply 12March 12, 2024 12:25 AM

[quote] Gosling's back-up dancers were over-dressed in tuxes.

It's just hard to top the original...

It's terrible song and that's the fun of it! The whole point of both the song and last night's performance was highlighting how bad the song is.

It was fantastic and campy and satire and I loved it.

by Anonymousreply 14March 12, 2024 12:30 AM

The song sucks and he lip-synched it

by Anonymousreply 15March 12, 2024 12:33 AM

Ironic that Ken is the one getting the Oscar nomination and the crowd on their feet as he performs while Barbie sat there the while night looking on, overshadowed.

by Anonymousreply 16March 12, 2024 12:37 AM

He's pretty much the same as he was in the MMC days.

No Ryan wardrobe malfunction at R17?

by Anonymousreply 18March 12, 2024 12:45 AM

I thought he and the production number were adorable.

by Anonymousreply 19March 12, 2024 12:47 AM

Are the guys in the tailcoats the Juul Haalmeyer Dancers?

by Anonymousreply 20March 12, 2024 12:48 AM

Wonder if Ryan and Justin still talk

by Anonymousreply 21March 12, 2024 12:49 AM

It was joyful. (I’d never it.) Joyful and wacky.

by Anonymousreply 22March 12, 2024 12:52 AM

He didn't lipsync that

by Anonymousreply 23March 12, 2024 12:59 AM

The song and production was so hetero heavy. It took forever to end.

by Anonymousreply 24March 12, 2024 1:18 AM

I would not describe his performance as "stiff," and I think he sang very well for that type of song.

by Anonymousreply 25March 12, 2024 1:20 AM

Why doesn't his wife who is in the business ever come with him on his biggest night?

by Anonymousreply 26March 12, 2024 1:22 AM

Shut up, OP. You're a miserable, culture-free, low-brow curmudgeon.

by Anonymousreply 27March 12, 2024 1:26 AM

Yeah, the OP sucks donkey balls

KENERGY FOREVER

by Anonymousreply 28March 12, 2024 1:37 AM

Yeah it’s not a good song but it is funny

by Anonymousreply 29March 12, 2024 1:38 AM

[quote] Why doesn't his wife who is in the business ever come with him on his biggest night?

Eva Mendez is drop-dead gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 30March 12, 2024 1:52 AM

I love it

by Anonymousreply 31March 12, 2024 1:54 AM

I love his voice

by Anonymousreply 32March 12, 2024 1:56 AM

It was the best part of the show!

by Anonymousreply 33March 12, 2024 2:00 AM

The movie is really lame too. I couldn't believe how botched the script was.

by Anonymousreply 34March 12, 2024 2:52 AM

Haha the people who don't get it are such sticks in the mud. It's a power ballad (think Sister Christian by Night Ranger) by way of Broadway. It's really not SUPPOSED to be good per se. But it was a fuckton of fun.

by Anonymousreply 35March 12, 2024 3:11 AM

It's funny in the way same way that Shut Your Fucking Face Uncle Fucko and What Would Brian Boitano Do are funny in the South Park movie. Except rated G. The joke is in the idea of the song. Not every song for a movie requires perfect composition and vocals.

by Anonymousreply 36March 12, 2024 3:16 AM

WHET the erudite sophisticates of DL yore? Now we get dead-affect kill joy troglodytes such as...

by Anonymousreply 37March 12, 2024 3:21 AM

[quote] Why doesn't his wife who is in the business ever come with him on his biggest night?

It wasn't his biggest night. Greta and Margot were not nominated and I think they were all kind of over it. However, they have to go and put on a happy face or they'd get kicked out of the Oscars club.

by Anonymousreply 38March 12, 2024 3:34 AM

R37 the OP is probably Poisoned Dragon or a tranny, neither one of which is known for an acute sense of humor.

by Anonymousreply 39March 12, 2024 3:37 AM

Super fun with a nod to “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.” Lighten up, OP!

by Anonymousreply 40March 12, 2024 3:38 AM

The chunky Scott Evans was really given it his all.

by Anonymousreply 41March 12, 2024 3:44 AM

I'm the Da'Vine balloon tit that is feeling the most pressure.

by Anonymousreply 42March 12, 2024 3:48 AM

Ryan sang live; he didn't lip synch.

by Anonymousreply 43March 12, 2024 3:56 AM

i had no idea Scott Evans was in this movie (and I’ve seen it), until watching this.

by Anonymousreply 44March 12, 2024 3:08 PM

[quote]a brilliant parody of contemplative male power ballads from the '80s.

You’re clearly a Frau, R3.

by Anonymousreply 45March 12, 2024 3:15 PM

Anybody remember when Mr Goaling snapped at his gay Asian Barbie costar when he dared to put his arm around a VERY STRAIGHT Ryan at one of the premiers?

I do, and for that alone I’m sick of seeing his rat face and that stupid insipid song everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 46March 12, 2024 3:17 PM

[quote]Jeez. Some people suck the fun out of everything.

Well, this is the DataLounge. These shut-ins are just doing the job they signed on for.

by Anonymousreply 47March 12, 2024 3:30 PM

I thought it was a great moment in an otherwise boring show.

by Anonymousreply 48March 12, 2024 4:23 PM

He lip synced. He’s not a trained singer. There were too many choreographed moments for him to sing it live. And he does NOT have a nice voice at all! Ye sheep idiots.

by Anonymousreply 49March 12, 2024 4:51 PM

Read the Variety article about how it came about, R49. He had a coach to help him navigate how to sing whole doing all the movement from stage to audience.

by Anonymousreply 50March 12, 2024 6:23 PM

R49 we're sheep because we enjoyed a performance? Okaaaay. Look into threapy maybe

by Anonymousreply 51March 12, 2024 6:52 PM

The fact that so many Americans are obsessed with this song and losing their minds over “how great” he is says so much about this increasingly ignorant, Tik Tok and reality tv-obsessed country. Meanwhile, Chinese kids are doing calculus on cell phones on their way to school.

by Anonymousreply 52March 12, 2024 6:53 PM

R51 sounds simple, and so easily entertained. R51, do you bounce up and down and clap while watching videos of chimps eating bananas?

by Anonymousreply 53March 12, 2024 6:54 PM

R44 There are apparently pictures of when he changed in the Barbie movie studio locker room. I heard that in a blind item that stars are secretly filmed sometimes.

It seemed to me that it was sung live rather than lip synched.

by Anonymousreply 55March 12, 2024 11:56 PM

R55 I think his voice is so bad that the playback made it appear like an average live singer.

by Anonymousreply 56March 13, 2024 12:52 AM

What do you find so "bad" about his voice? I thought it was just fine for that kind of song, it wasn't as if he tried to sing "Nessun dorma."

by Anonymousreply 57March 13, 2024 1:33 AM

R57 it sounded like a weed smoker voice. I just simply noticed that he is an actor and not a singer. He has more potential but that would take 5 years of constant singing practice. Does he use botox? Because he barely moved his face during the performance. He kinda looks like Cher with these cheeks.
