Agreed R1, she fully commits to the insanity here, but I think it ultimately works. All of the performances in it are pretty good actually. It also has the massive gay-themed plot line with the homophobic detective (Bo Svenson) who is obsessed with the idea that Jimmy McNichol killed his gay basketball coach's lover out of jealousy (when it was in fact the deranged Tyrrell).
Oddly enough, the director, William Asher, was an established television director who worked for years shooting episodes of "I Love Lucy" and "Bewitched". Talk about a departure from material.
