I've seen this too, but doesn't Grindr randomize the distance a bit when it's really close like a few hundred feet? Just so guys can't do what OP is doing...

When more than one person shares the same WiFi access point, mine shows 0 feet away. It was jarring the first time until I figured out why. Using cellular data seems to provide more accurate coordinates. Some bars offer free WiFi so it can get confusing, especially when I am out with my "straight" friends at a "straight" bar.
