Fran Drescher Interviews Barbra Streisand--SAG 2024 Life Achievement Recipient | Actor to Actor
by Anonymous | reply 74 | March 24, 2024 3:40 PM |
It's so funny hearing the aged voices on these old actresses, and sometimes how they move - with those 'younger' hair styles and clothes.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 3, 2024 6:12 AM |
Fascinating discussion with Fran and Babs.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 3, 2024 6:18 AM |
Brilliant. Better than most interviews with Barbra and a journalist.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 3, 2024 6:29 AM |
Fran's hair looks good.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 3, 2024 6:34 AM |
Fran has always been a huge Barbara fan, I remember her show the Nanny where her dream was meeting her.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 3, 2024 1:12 PM |
The great Streisand- what a woman- warts and all.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 3, 2024 2:17 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 3, 2024 2:22 PM |
Fran looks very pretty. I like the side parted hair and red lipstick.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 3, 2024 9:04 PM |
Barbra's accent is much thicker than it is in her movies.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 3, 2024 9:07 PM |
She sounds like she works at the deli counter in the old neighborhood.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 3, 2024 9:07 PM |
Barbra still a bitch because she can't interview herself with the right lighting. Her personality is so different than the lighthearted characters she has portrayed. I hope the guys who dated her didn't expect Daisy Gamble.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 3, 2024 9:28 PM |
FRAN'S MOTHER: "You got something against Barbra Streisand now?"
FRAN: "Ma, of course not! She's our leader!"
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 3, 2024 9:31 PM |
“I want ta talk to you about ya a-wawed?” “My a-wawed?”
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 3, 2024 9:32 PM |
The dry hair and tinted glasses make her look trashy. I guess she's in a position not to care anymore, but it's wholly unflattering.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 3, 2024 9:32 PM |
With all her $$ she looks like that. Her hair is more dried out that a skater kid's in 2009 using a flat iron.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 3, 2024 9:35 PM |
(than)
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 3, 2024 9:35 PM |
Fran is a national treasure and I will cut any bitch who suggests otherwise. I know multiple people who have worked with her and described her as one of the warmest, sweetest, most gracious human beings they've ever met.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 3, 2024 11:17 PM |
sHe'S A nAtIoNaL tReAsUrE!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 3, 2024 11:20 PM |
Barbra admits to never seeing The Nanny. There's a very good reason for that - LAINIE KAZAN IS IN IT!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 3, 2024 11:25 PM |
Peter and Fran tried tirelessly to get Streisand to make a guest appearance during the show's run but she refused everytime, always for predictably precious, snobby reasons. You'd think that might have soured Fran's IRL worship of her, but she never once took it personally. She really and truly is one of Barbra's most diehard fans.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 3, 2024 11:33 PM |
^ I’m glad Streisand did NOT appear on the shitty show no matter how Fran idolized her.
Interesting, in the early 1970s through the 80s, I never observed New York Jewish (or Italian for the matter) girls being interested in Streisand let alone “idolizing” her. Her music didn’t appeal to them, and her movies not so much either. She was considered their parents generation- I asked.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 4, 2024 12:08 AM |
I love Barbra but she has got to perk up a bit and do something about that goddamn hair!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 4, 2024 12:48 AM |
R23, she did do something about the goddamed hair. Her real hair was thin, straight and originally brown.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 4, 2024 12:59 AM |
^^Her hair looks like a bird's nest. How about just not making it as frizzy and unkempt?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 4, 2024 1:04 AM |
Girls I knew (not NY girls) loved Barbra in the early to mid 70s. Especially her Stony End album and her movies.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 4, 2024 1:08 AM |
This is super-picky I know, but I was disappointed that Barbra never acknowledged Ida Lupino in her book as a pioneering director in the 1950s. .
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 4, 2024 1:51 AM |
R27 What about Dorothy Arzner in the 1930s?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 4, 2024 2:03 AM |
[quote]Girls I knew (not NY girls) loved Barbra in the early to mid 70s. Especially her Stony End album and her movies.
That's when she crimped her hair and went down the Stony End. She didn't WANT to go down the Stony End!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 4, 2024 2:27 AM |
Or for that matter, Dorothy Gish in the 1920s?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 4, 2024 2:27 AM |
R26, Fran Drescher is a NY girl, hence the connection. Those from elsewhere don’t matter.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 4, 2024 2:32 AM |
I love this scene from THE NANNY where Fran is shocked that the cute, young doctor doesn't know who Barbra Streisand is. 😂
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 4, 2024 2:55 AM |
R30 I never knew Dorothy Gish was a director.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 4, 2024 4:12 AM |
Fran Drescher really tried in that interview. It seems Barbra is not used to having a two-way conversation. One where the conversation could possibly veer into other talking points - versus talking about her.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 4, 2024 5:09 AM |
Barbra says she has never seen The Nanny and asks Fran to send her some tapes. But I don't think she will like them. Fran may talk about how The Nanny was a great fan of Barbra but inevitably she did an impersonation with crossed eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 4, 2024 5:15 AM |
And I get it. She was being interviewed… so it’s about her. But there are a few times she could’ve talked about something new or different or current - even as it might relate to her. And she just did not.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 4, 2024 5:17 AM |
Who was the male co-star who refused to show his bad side to look at the plant?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 4, 2024 5:21 AM |
Yves Montand?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 4, 2024 5:22 AM |
Amazing that Babs would bring up someone being so vain as to only agree to being shot from his good side!!!
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 4, 2024 5:54 AM |
Roz is great.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 4, 2024 7:06 AM |
R39 She said they both had the same issue.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 4, 2024 2:43 PM |
REDFORD had a think about his good side (left) but Barbra protects him from any criticism. She was talking about Yves Montand in this interview.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 4, 2024 2:44 PM |
I wonder if Barbra ever considered doing a character role like Rene Taylor or Lainie Kazan did on The Nanny -
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 4, 2024 3:50 PM |
Barbra looks so washed-out. Makeup a vague putty color. I wonder if she knew Fran (age 66) was going to arrive all glammed up?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 5, 2024 2:41 PM |
That's Barbra's look these days. No one has the nerve to tell her she looks like shit, very much like a former co-star:
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 5, 2024 3:38 PM |
I agree, R34. Barbra seemed annoyed. Fran was a bit all over the place. It was a little uncomfortable watching it, tension and maybe some low level hostility or something.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 5, 2024 3:45 PM |
It's fascinating how Barbra filmed Lauren Bacall's best scenes in Mirror without her knowing it. You could tell that Barbra was unhappy with Lauren's acting, so she had to come up with a way to get the performance out of her that she wanted. Lauren never would have gotten that Oscar nomination without Barbra's quick thinking.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 5, 2024 4:09 PM |
They should have asked Lainie what WOMEN she has dated.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 5, 2024 4:13 PM |
R51. It wasn't really quick thinking. She planned it, filming it when she knew Lauren would be tired, she had the crew in on the little ploy, they did as instructed, they kept filming after Barbra told them to stop, fooling Lauren. I found it manipulative and dishonest. When I saw the movie, I thought that particular scene seemed very fake and overacted.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 5, 2024 5:24 PM |
Directors will film the rehearsal, or film the actors when they aren't aware of it. Barbara didn't invent it.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 5, 2024 5:45 PM |
Why are they sitting so close to each other? That made me very uncomfortable.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 5, 2024 6:27 PM |
I think it's in Europe.
They don't know or care about personal space over there.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 5, 2024 6:29 PM |
^^^I wonder if they had European body odor, too.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 5, 2024 7:01 PM |
Wonder which relationship had her dream of drowning and a ship sailing away?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 5, 2024 7:08 PM |
[quote][R51]. It wasn't really quick thinking. She planned it
That's not what Barbra said. She only decided to film Lauren's scene once she got to her apartment and liked the way that Lauren looked and felt. It wasn't planned ahead of time.
Lauren wasn't Barbra's first, or second, choice to play her mother. She wanted Liz Taylor, and then Lana Turner, but they were both in poor health and weren't up to the task. She made the mistake of hiring Dudley Moore, who she had to fire because of his poor health.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 5, 2024 7:55 PM |
Actually, R59, I combined two different situations. It's on page 854. Barbra got a line she wanted by telling the camera man to not stop filming after she told him too so Lauren didn't think she was being filmed. The other situation was at the end of the next day of filming. Lauren was tired and was supposed to do the confession seen the next day. In the movie she had been up all night. Barbra asked Lauren to film it while she was tired and, admittedly, unprepared.

Babs went to the Dakota with a film crew? Did Betty serve High Point and Fancy Feast on crackers?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 5, 2024 11:00 PM |
Doesn’t everyone anyone know that Babs and everyone else on planet Earth called “Lauren,” Betty?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 6, 2024 12:35 AM |
People are just now finding out that Lauren's big scene in Mirror was actually filmed in her apartment at the Dakota. It's probably the only movie that's ever been filmed there.
Minnie and Roman Castevet lived down the hall from Lauren.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 6, 2024 2:48 AM |
31:30 "What would you like to be remembered for?" She doesn't mention being a good mother or Jason.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | March 6, 2024 4:21 AM |
“Ba-bra, that book is a lawng read…..”
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 6, 2024 4:23 AM |
Lucky Betty is dead.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | March 6, 2024 12:09 PM |
In one shot, you can glimpse me cleaning-up cat poop.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | March 6, 2024 7:43 PM |
How could someone who looked like Bacall have a daughter who looked like Streisand?
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 6, 2024 11:37 PM |
I can never get my broom straw to curl like that.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | March 6, 2024 11:54 PM |
She never appeared on The Nanny, good. Does Barbra discuss her appearance on Modern Family in her book?
by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 7, 2024 1:15 PM |
Aren't there a lot of threads about Barbra's book?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 7, 2024 1:18 PM |
I finally listened to this interview. Fran was great. She said something about SAG and that she's the president. Barbra then said: "And I voted for you." Fran said thanks.
Fran looked beautiful. Babs, I'd like to get my hands on her as a stylist.
