Usually it's a turnoff, but one of the best things about Guy is that he seemed to know how hot he was. He also seemed to have a sense of boredom about his looks too. It's a good mixture.

Tyrone Power was in love with Judy Garland. They had an on again off again relationship. He really wanted to marry her but she knew he "had issues." He was forced into a marriage to Linda Christian. But he pined for Judy. He and Linda had a rocky time of it.
Right now I am watching A Streetcar Named Desire and my gawd, Marlon Brando was a beauty! I think I will put him on the list. Young Marlon was seriously a perfect combination of pure sex and pure beauty.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | February 28, 2024 12:56 AM |
Can we confine our selections to those who did Talkies?
by Anonymous | reply 115 | February 28, 2024 12:58 AM |
In his prime, Marlon Brando is hard to beat. Paul Newman comes close, but Brando was a little less pretty and a little more handsome.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | February 28, 2024 1:23 AM |
R114, Would one of Tyrone’s issues have been that he liked dick?
That certainly didn’t stop Judy from marrying other gay men.

R114, Tyrone Power knocked up Lana Turner and after she aborted the pregnancy, he went off with Linda Christian.

He was quite the cocksman, juggling sleeping with several women at the same time.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | February 28, 2024 3:54 PM |
Booth was obviously good looking, but the standards then were different for male beauty. Most grown men (except Lincoln) were built like adolescents and weren't very tall or robust. There were not a lot of celebs, then, either, or actors people had seen in person. And you can't judge by photos alone.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | February 28, 2024 4:17 PM |
In order to really appreciate John Wilkes Booth’s allure, you had to see him in person.

I told the Tabilan, the Tall bans, you know Old Joe wants to ban your gas stove, your gas car, but we have oil. We have diesel. Those Pelosi Windmills kill Bald Eagles, that's like killing America, but Biden wants that. I told those Afkhazi leaders in my White House---I can still call it 'White,' right? Don't want Fani Fani Bo Banni to arrest me on another phony carge---great leaders, I told them Trump would get American soldiers out of Afghannesburg. That's why my Army loves me.
And this big strong General comes up to me with tears in his eyes, and he says to me, 'Sir, You are more than America's greatest President. You have been the best-looking man in America in more than a hundred years!'

Yes, R128 in replay to R115 - John Barrymore certainly was in talkies. He was, in fact, in one of the best star-studded comedies of the 1930s, Dinner At Eight (and if Marie Dressler isn't a DL fave, she should be). By 1933, when DAE was made, Barrymore was pretty washed up in the looks department, if you ask me. That worked for him in the role. When he was in his 20s, though, he was hot hot hot! Here's another one:

Watch Midnight Lace and Psycho if you want to see Gavin in all his glory. Although Paul Newman will always be first on my list of the most beautiful men in film. And I agree with r216. That photo doesn’t do JG justice.

Tyrone Power in his early prime. I'm talking about his twenties. His hard living of chain smoking (4 packs a day), excessive drinking of hard liquor and poor sleeping habits did a real number on his looks and his health. He was already looking badly aged by 30. In retrospect it shouldn't have been a big surprised he looked like he was pushing 60 by age 44 when he died.

Not sure when the linked photo of Tyrone Power was taken, but god almighty he looks older than his death age of 44.

R221 Same with Steve Inhat, who was mainly a TV character actor with roles on Star Trek, Gunsmoke, Mannix, etc.
He was only 37 when he died of a heart attack in 1972, but he looked at least 50.

Paul Newman (he was like a Greek god) or Robert Redford during his Sundance kid period (nobody wore a better mustache).

R221 Tyrone Powers was a cautionary tale of how not to live. Burning the candle at both end for 20 years not only destroys one's looks, it can also significantly cut your life span.
