Canadian Fundie Family Moves to Russia to Escape Homos, Immediately Regrets It

These fuckin’ idiots!

They sold all their belongings and crowdsourced a buttload of cash to move their family of 10 to Russia, all to escape homosexuals and a secular society. The Russian government promised to set them up with a farm and business loans to restart their lives.

But when they arrived, the Russian bank into which they deposited their hoard immediately froze every ruble, due to the suspiciously large bank balance in such a poor country. The promises of free land also seem to have vanished, and the family is now stranded in a place where no one speaks their language and no one in the state bureaucracy will help them without a bribe. They briefly vented their frustrations online, but the husband posted a public apology afterward, lest he be drafted or fed a polonium smoothie for speaking against the regime.

So now they’re stranded, and their money is likely gone forever, and the dad and possibly the older sons can now be drafted to die in Ukraine. All because they hated gays and wanted to live amongst purer people.

Who wants their stuff?

Yes, I know it says “family of 11.” Evidently, one of their 9 children didn’t go to Russia with them.

by Anonymousreply 1February 20, 2024 4:20 PM

HA HA! Enjoy your time in shithole Russia!

by Anonymousreply 2February 20, 2024 4:26 PM

Our MAGATs should do this! Hell, I'll donate to a Go Fund Me to send them!

by Anonymousreply 3February 20, 2024 4:29 PM

We should encourage all freedom loving MAGAts to move to Russia where they’ll get a strong, powerful leader and no homos! I’ll even pay to fly them there.

by Anonymousreply 4February 20, 2024 4:29 PM

Wonkette's take on the same story. Amusing how quickly the husband deleted his wife's complaints about Russia and did his best to walk it all back.

Awwww

by Anonymousreply 6February 20, 2024 4:33 PM

Every additional day they're stuck there, they're damning their kids to a bleaker and bleaker future. But hey, at least they got to own the homos!

by Anonymousreply 7February 20, 2024 4:34 PM

Their public restroom predicament is also funny in light of their politics:

[quote]The Feenstras haven’t bothered to learn Russian first. “We were naive on that,” said Anneesa. “I needed to use the washroom, and on the doors said male and female, but I didn’t know which was which!”

[quote]“In America, that wouldn’t be a problem, it’s free-for-all in the bathrooms, but now in our world it matters!” Arend marveled.

by Anonymousreply 8February 20, 2024 4:38 PM

This will end in tears.

by Anonymousreply 9February 20, 2024 4:41 PM

[quote]“In America, that wouldn’t be a problem, it’s free-for-all in the bathrooms, but now in our world it matters!” Arend marveled.

Was the bathroom at their place back in Canada not gender neutral as well? Doesn't every family have "free-for-all" bathrooms?

by Anonymousreply 10February 20, 2024 4:44 PM

Trust in haste, regret in leisure.

by Anonymousreply 11February 20, 2024 4:53 PM

Great. Now if we could convince the worthless, racist, homophonbic, fascist 74 million US fools who voted for Trump in 2020 to follow suit....

by Anonymousreply 14February 20, 2024 5:01 PM

I feel somewhat sorry for the kids - it's much harder for them to get away now. It's likely that was obne of the points of it for daddy, of course.

by Anonymousreply 15February 20, 2024 5:05 PM

What about the kid who didn't go with them?

by Anonymousreply 16February 20, 2024 5:09 PM

At least they don't have to deal with immigrants who expect free housing and government handouts but don't speak the language!

by Anonymousreply 17February 20, 2024 5:10 PM

[quote]Comment Award goes to Laughing Gravy: “I’ll bet back home they used to whine about immigrants who don’t know the language, who have no money, who expect the government to hand them a house and a job, and who complain when they don’t get everything they want.”

by Anonymousreply 19February 20, 2024 5:20 PM

by Anonymousreply 20February 20, 2024 5:25 PM

I smile to myself when idiots like this who think it's so awful in the US find out that all their little tantrums and demands are not only ignored, but actively punished in other countries.

I hope they enjoy their lives, short though they may be, in their new country.

These folks are dumb as a box of hair.

by Anonymousreply 26February 20, 2024 6:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 27February 20, 2024 6:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 28February 20, 2024 6:10 PM

Being poor, isolated, unemployed and constantly at risk of death for saying the wrong thing seems a small price to pay for knowing your kids won’t be groomed by filthy homosexuals and trans people.

by Anonymousreply 29February 20, 2024 6:14 PM

He had to get away from all of that temptation, r28!

by Anonymousreply 30February 20, 2024 6:14 PM

Tara Reade is busy working her shift at the beet farm. They'll be joining her shortly.

by Anonymousreply 31February 20, 2024 6:15 PM

How do you say "ha-ha" in Russian?

by Anonymousreply 32February 20, 2024 6:20 PM

Reminds me of the first white settlers of 'America'. They were dropped off by unscrupulous ships, with the promise they'd be back with supplies in a few months. They never came back. The Priggish Pilgrims were digging holes in hills to shield from the bitter winter. The 'Indians' took pity on the starving palefaces and saved many lives.

by Anonymousreply 33February 20, 2024 6:25 PM

Judging from my porn search history, there are indeed a great many active homosexuals in Russia.

Oh my, are they active! And usually in uniforms. And usually twins!

by Anonymousreply 34February 20, 2024 7:20 PM

This would actually be a brilliant premise for a sitcom.

by Anonymousreply 35February 20, 2024 8:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 36February 20, 2024 9:11 PM

I'll bet you with all those kids their taxes were next to nothing in Canada on top of having socialized medicine.

by Anonymousreply 37February 20, 2024 9:50 PM

Russia can keep them, we don't want them back.

All those homos in Canada was too much temptation for the dad.

by Anonymousreply 38February 20, 2024 10:20 PM

by Anonymousreply 39February 20, 2024 10:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 40February 20, 2024 10:54 PM

Soon, those kids will be old enough to be forced to fight in the Russian army! Won't that be great.

by Anonymousreply 41February 20, 2024 10:54 PM

I will be happy to take them under my wings and show them the Russia I know and love so well.

[quote]“You're in the worst category possible,” empathized the host. “Because from what I can see you’re an alpha-type white male, who’s a farmer as well, so you’ve got the woke people after you, the vegans after you, you have the LGBTQ after you, you have literally everyone after you!”

I'm all for it. Let's send on a one-way ticket to Russia all these aggressively ignorant, bigoted, so-called "Christian" fuckers who contribute no good value or decency to our society. They want to live under an authoritarian, fascist regime because they simply refuse to abide letting others of different values and identities live their lives as they see fit? Fine, let them follow in this moronic family's delusional example. The husband is very photogenic, but the wife looks like a hag, and she’s a loose cannon to boot. A great story arc would be that she tragically dies from a mystery illness, but — in a bittersweet twist of fate — the husband falls in love with a lovely young Russian woman with a tight vagina that’s perfect for pumping out more Christian cannon fodder for Putin. The children adapting to the new mom would be a perfect story device to refresh the narrative, just as viewership for the tired old ex-pat spiel starts to wane.

But I guess when they complain about Canadian immigrants it’s only the brown ones. They’re just a couple of racist, homophobic shit-for-brains who deserve to get stuck for eternity in shithole Russia. And sadly they’ve probably doomed their sons into getting forced into the Russian military. He himself will probably get forced into fighting Ukraine.

No matter how “orthodox” they claim to be, they will always be seen as degenerate, entitled Westerners who have been brainwashed by their country of origin. It’s like when conservative Californians relocate to Idaho. They think they are seen as heroic and are used by Republicans to promote Idaho as a bastion of anti-wokeness. But then they face the harsh reality that native Idahoans HATE Californians, and will never trust them no matter how conservative they claim to be. The unfortunate transplants eventually start being treated like a subclass of ignorant children who are constantly lectured, “Just make sure not to turn Idaho into California!” Except Russia is much, much worse.

I love how they talk about how bad the Canadian government is but in another video they mention going to a government ministry to request farmland. In Canada you just hire a realtor and call it a day or buy the land privately. I would never want to move to a nation that required that type of oversight.

Then they crammed 9 people into an apartment. They didn't give us an apartment tour because they know the optics must be horrible.

We never hear their nine kids in the video so who knows what threats they issue to silence their crotch fruit.

Finally, during the vid where the ask for farm land, the dad said there were so many options, BUT, the Russian government ministers needed time to review some that would be appropriate. Such bullshit. In the West, you just look online, contact the seller, and make an offer. Citizen or not.

These people sound crazy. I'm sure his wife will be at a bottom of one of the Russian rivers they were boasting about and one of his daughters will take her place. He gives me the vibes.

r123 - The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) is ultra-anti evangelist, so this was an incredibly dumb move on the family's part. . The ROC and Putin have gotten quite cozy in the last several years to their mutual advantage.

by Anonymousreply 137February 21, 2024 7:56 PM

I don’t know anything about this website, but article discusses history of Christianity in Russia.

——

[italic]If someone from 1965 were to arrive in a time machine, there’s likely much about our current state of affairs that would shock them. But I cannot imagine anything that would be more confusing than the love affair between the U.S. Right and Russia—the extent of which has come into stark clarity in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine…

Almost immediately following the collapse of the Soviet Union, American evangelicals began to flood into Russia, with a generation coming of age on mission trips to Moscow and Bible-buying fundraisers for St. Petersburg. Instead of meeting with hostility from the Russian Orthodox Church, these Protestant firebrands were generally welcomed. Which is the part of the story that’s perhaps most difficult to explain; Orthodoxy as a faith tradition has spent centuries resolutely opposed to corruption or co-option from outside.

Especially since Russian Orthodoxy loves iconography, which evangelicals view as idolatrous.

R138 - In the last few years, several evangelist groups have been banned from Russia, as it is seen as cutting into their financial pie. Groups that haven't been doing this, the ROC is OK with them.

@r138, Interesting read

by Anonymousreply 141February 21, 2024 9:30 PM

I saw an interview of the dad by an American expat who lives in Russia. The couple are generational farmers whose parents came to Canada from the Netherlands for better economic opportunities. They actually relocated their farm to Ontario (from Saskatchewan) because they wanted to make more money. The dad has an idyllic view of farming that has a variety of revenue streams (meat, dairy, produce) while most successful family farms in the West specialize in one branch. They’re hoping they can do that in Russia. He barely touched on the culture wars in the interview.

by Anonymousreply 151February 22, 2024 4:29 AM

Were these Canadians or Americans who had moved to Canada?

The wife mentioned not knowing male vs female in Russian on the bathroom doors - but then said "In America, they don't give a shit" or some such.

by Anonymousreply 152February 22, 2024 4:30 AM

Dutch fundies seem rare.

by Anonymousreply 153February 22, 2024 4:30 AM

They’re Dutch-Canadians, but several times the dad has referred to Canada as “America.” As in the continent, not the country.

by Anonymousreply 154February 22, 2024 4:32 AM

Thanks R154. I don't think I've heard Canadians refer to themselves as Americans before. Interesting.

Might help take some of our stigma away if more of them did that (these lunatics excepted). Both husband and wife had Dutch parents? Weird.

by Anonymousreply 156February 22, 2024 4:34 AM

[quote]They’re hoping they can do that in Russia.

r151 I mean, they absolutely can do that there, they just won't get much money for it. Not nearly enough to support their eight kids without substantial state assistance. And Russia will want some of those kids to go to the front or serve the state in some other way, they won't get fleeced out of public money by these Canadians by getting nothing in return.

by Anonymousreply 157February 22, 2024 4:34 AM

I meant to say they moved to Russia so that they can do “non-specialized” farming —. dairy, produce, etc.

by Anonymousreply 158February 22, 2024 4:34 AM

I'm thinking about this way too much...

But does the bathroom door thing mean that the woman is too stupid to use Google translate on her phone? Or doesn't believe in smart phones??

by Anonymousreply 159February 22, 2024 4:55 AM

Any interviews with the son who stayed behind?

by Anonymousreply 160February 22, 2024 4:57 AM

r159 You expect that bitch to know how to type Cyrillic on her phone?

by Anonymousreply 161February 22, 2024 5:00 AM

If you enter "English to Russian" and type the English word, the Russian translation will come up on the right, with the pronunciation (in English letters) beneath it.

In case any of you are thinking of emigrating...

by Anonymousreply 162February 22, 2024 5:08 AM

R162 But if you see a word in Cyrillic and want to translate it to English, you would have to change your keypad to Cyrillic to translate the characters, right?

by Anonymousreply 163February 22, 2024 5:14 AM

r162 Russian pronounced phonetically by someone who doesn't actually speak Russian can sound as complete gibberish to Russian speakers. Just listen to the heinous "Russian" attempted by Margo in the first episode in the most recent of For All Mankind. Totally unintelligible.

So no, that's not really a solution. Best to just show the nearby Russian your phone with the translation on it.

by Anonymousreply 164February 22, 2024 5:17 AM

That would work. But for the bathroom door, you could just look at the Cyrillic for "men" or "male" and probably solve the existential bathroom crisis they've encountered. I'm sure everything else will work out swimmingly.

by Anonymousreply 165February 22, 2024 5:21 AM

r165 When I was hanging around in the hospital hallway after my appendectomy last year, a young frau approached me and asked whether I spoke English and to please help her with the bathroom situation. I immediately asked if she's pictogram-illiterate (in a more polite way than that, of course). Well, we got to the toilets and it turns out there were no pictograms and the toilets were separated by function – one for staff and one for visitors, with both being unisex. So it's not always as simple as that.

by Anonymousreply 166February 22, 2024 5:24 AM

R164, yes — the accent is essential, but the minority of adults who successfully learn to speak a new language never fully master the accent. Young kids have a knack for it, though. At least their kids have a chance of learning to speak Russian fluently, although their parents will always struggle, so much so that they’ll probably start hanging out with other English-speaking expats and never learn Russian. They’ll use their kids as translators instead.

by Anonymousreply 167February 22, 2024 5:29 AM

But I'd assume if they weren't marked "men"/"women" then you wouldn't be walking into the wrong gender, most likely, though you might be using a "staff" bathroom when you shouldn't. I'm sure some official would handle the situation were you to slip up.

I didn't know they'd practically been invited (the other thread). I've always heard Russian people are good hearted and happy to help you, though they're not at smiley and surface friendly as North Americans.

Google translate has a little picture of a speaker at the bottom of the screen. You click on it and a lovely lady's voice pronounces the word for you. But I wonder if the patriarch lets his little woman have a smart phone? And certainly not the kids! Think of the things they might find on the Internet!

by Anonymousreply 174February 22, 2024 8:28 AM

R161 the translation question is actually not an issue. Google has had an updated translator feature for a long time. You just need the Google translate app. With the app you can type in words, the old way, AND take a photo of a word or phrase to translate.

It’s been outstanding when I’m abroad and get a dinner menu or something that’s not in English. Just open up translate and via my phone I can scan the menu and it’ll show me the English translations.

Technology can be rather impressive. I didn’t even know that was a feature until I was playing around with it while in Portugal.

But, this assumes her iPhone still works over there and the Google App isn’t disabled.

Fundies of Dutch heritage can be aggressive and oversensitive as someone mentioned upthread. Here is my experience with them. I went to a school that was run by Christian Reformed people and they are different from the evangelicals. A lot of them live in rural Michigan. They moved south and started a private school. They are fair minded and actually sometimes treat kids with respect. They have extremely strict rules for the Sabbath at the level of things like not listening to the radio, not riding bikes. School dances were banned. They would accuse kids of using drugs if they joked about them. Yet they would be very conversational with both the parents and kids to find a solution. They also taught us about other religions but said that they were going to hell. They also believe in predestined heaven, meaning that there’s nothing you can do and won’t go to heaven because the people that choose wrong things are predestined for hell, and they should be avoided.

Both parents need to pass the Russian language test to get residency. How hard is Russian to learn for English speakers?

[quote] Ranking fourth on our list of hardest languages to learn (for English speakers), Russian uses a Cyrillic alphabet — made up of letters both familiar and unfamiliar to us. But speaker beware: some of the Cyrillic letters may look familiar but make a different sound than the Latin letter they resemble. For instance, “B” in the Cyrillic alphabet makes a “V” sound.

[quote] Grammatically, Russian is not as difficult as Polish but pretty darn close. Polish has seven cases, while Russian has six. Also, Russians omit the verb “to be” in the present tense, which can throw beginners for a loop when they try to form basic sentences. In Russian, “I am a student” would simply translate to “I student.” Like Polish, Russian uses a lot of consonants clustered together, which makes spelling and pronunciation a challenge.

Another site indicated that it takes about 1,100 hours to learn Russian, but I don't what level of proficiency the Russian government tests for.

An article I found said that Depardieu is not living in Russia anymore. Looking around further: "The Russian people are not responsible for the crazy, unacceptable excesses of their leaders like Vladimir Putin," Depardieu told AFP on March 31. Members of the State Duma, one of the chambers of the Russian parliament, have spoken out against Depardieu's condemnation of Putin and called for his passport to be confiscated. "I consider it important and necessary to talk about the need to cancel Gérard Depardieu's passport for his swaggering attacks and attempts to speak on behalf of the Russian people, who did not delegate him to make these statements," Russian MP Sultan Khamzaev said, per Russian outlet MK RU.

He added that the actor's real estate in Russia "must be expropriated and given to orphans."

That article was from April 2022.

A newer one (February 2023) said Depardieu has returned to France and asked for refugee status!

* "I am ashamed to be Russian. It is very painful for me that we are associated with orcs and bandits, fascists and criminals... I transferred the money I made from the sale of my Mordovian flat to help the army. I appeal to the French authorities for support and ask to grant me refugee status," now says Depardieu.

sorry for hijacking the thread.

One also thinks of Tara Reade, that human Curves classroom who once non-credibly accused Ja’Biden of raping her in a hallway that doesn’t exist. She defected to Russia after the accusation fell apart, and now takes payola from Kremlin media outlets.

When time gets the tough, you go RA-SHA! They take good care!

In a recent Youtube video, the father indicates that Russia has given them temporary asylum after their tourist visa runs out. So they will have extra time to pass the language test and won't have to immediately leave the country.

That video is not posted here because "No Clicks for You" Canadian-Russian family!

by Anonymousreply 252April 8, 2024 5:57 AM

Wow. Can those morons learn Russian well enough to ever pass a serious test of the Russian language? My guess is they'll pass them regardless - especially since they've granted asylum. This could be a new version of the Beverly Hillbillies - if Depardieu's PTS ZhD film company was still active in Russia. Maybe this could give Snowdon something to do? And Tara Reid could star as Miss Jane or something - and Steven Seagal could be in it too.

[quote] My guess is they'll pass them regardless

You may be right. The same person who counted votes and gave me 87% of the vote will be grading the husband and wife's Russian language test.

Have their kids started hating them yet?

by Anonymousreply 255April 9, 2024 2:07 AM

Tara Reade the cuckoo for cocoa puffs MAGA-trollop and Biden's false accuser? She defected to Russia? And they took her?

I question Mr. Pootie's taste level.

There was something on TikTok about a conservative Mexican family who fled California for Idaho. You can imagine what happened.

by Anonymousreply 258June 10, 2024 9:13 PM

As bad as Idaho must be, I'd take it iberostar Russia, R258. This idiot is about to be conscripted and the odds are good that he'll end up dying in Putin's war.

by Anonymousreply 259June 10, 2024 9:19 PM

Fucking yikes.

Well, I guess there’s a price to pay for any country you live in, and they chose to be cannon fodder for an authoritarian dictator over tolerating the existence of gay people. Have fun, guys!

by Anonymousreply 261June 10, 2024 9:31 PM

I still want to know more about the kid that didn't go with them.

by Anonymousreply 262June 10, 2024 9:33 PM

[quote]Can't they go to someplace like Idaho?

They should just adopt a puppy, name it Cricket and shoot it in the head for no other reason at all than being a "picture of pure joy" and Kristi Noem will welcome them in SD as heroes.

by Anonymousreply 263June 10, 2024 9:41 PM

I’m glad I learned the word iberostar today.

by Anonymousreply 264June 10, 2024 9:49 PM

R262 I can't remember where I read it, but the kid that remained behind thought his parents were bonkers and he said their extended family felt the same.

He would have been prime draft age - 22 I think. I wonder if Russia would have drafted him to go to Ukraine?

by Anonymousreply 265June 10, 2024 10:01 PM

I don't know how the fuck my phone auto-filled "iberostar" when I meant to type "over."

by Anonymousreply 266June 10, 2024 10:04 PM

That Tromp family drama is fascinating. Can't believe no one has ever come forward with an explanation of WTF happened to the parents. Too much isolation like the crazy couple in Bug?

by Anonymousreply 267June 10, 2024 10:14 PM

From the 90's to the aughts, I went to Russia five times for work.

I knew what to expect, having spent weeks reading up on a country then emerging from Communism before the first time I went for a week. There wasn't much internet to look at in 1991: Google was founded in 1998 so you had to read books. And these people up and left Canada to live in a shithole without checking it out first?

How fucking stupid can these people be?

by Anonymousreply 268June 10, 2024 10:36 PM

Any deaths yet?

by Anonymousreply 269June 10, 2024 11:28 PM

Homeschool stupid, r268. Just how talibangelical kkkunts like ‘em!

by Anonymousreply 270June 11, 2024 7:03 PM

I HOPE that when things take an even worse turn that the Canadian government ignores the pleas from these losers to bring them home to Canada.

by Anonymousreply 271June 11, 2024 11:13 PM

[quote] There was something on TikTok about a conservative Mexican family who fled California for Idaho. You can imagine what happened.

I wonder why they didn’t go to Texas. There are Conservative Latinos everywhere.

Unless the subtext is that they wanted to live some place 90% white.

by Anonymousreply 272June 12, 2024 5:20 AM

The thing about assholes is that they gravitate towards other assholes and then whine about how there are always assholes wherever they go.
