R89 They met at a football game. Being a movie star, one imagines Rock got VIP treatment in these small towns and was able to mingle with the purty, cornfed jocks down on the sidelines, perhaps even in the locker room.
[quote] Rock first met Majors, who was then known as Lee Yeary, in 1962 when Lee was playing football at Eastern Kentucky State College in Richmond, Kentucky. Rock astonished Majors’ adoptive parents by driving up to their house in nearby Middlesboro one day for a visit, and he willingly posed for pictures with Majors and his bride.

It's 2024 for most of us, but there are still many places in the US where it is 1954, and likely to remain so. There are millions of people who care if you suck cock, and would like to see you dead because of it. That's a reality that some of us are lucky enough to not have to deal with, but we have brothers and sisters who live in (justified) fear. With his age and status, Majors (if actually gay) has little to fear by coming out. But his generation never really considered coming out and the very idea is anathema. This is an issue that only time can cure.

R89 Found the website I remembered reading years ago, called "The Rock Hudson Project." It gives more details on how Rock and Lee met. In one account, it supposedly wasn't at a football game, but at a restaurant where they were introduced by a mutual friend, or it could have been a party given by a professor at the college.
Also, one of the reader comments at this blog is rather interesting. (Person used all caps so don't blame me.):
[quote] BRAVO, I WENT TO EASTERN WITH LEE AND MET ROCK WHEN HE VISITED LEE ON THE CAMPUS, I WITNESSED THEM TOGETHER, DANCING, MAKING-OUT IN THE GILDED CAGE, IN LEXINGTON, WHICH ROCK OWNED. THEY WENT UPSTAIRS TOGETHER ARM IN ARM.

Another article mentioning how Rock got involved with Kentucky football players through locals "Jimmy and Lonnie".
[quote] it turns out that "Jimmy" was James E. Barnett, a professional wrestling promoter. "Lonnie" was Lonnie Winter who has been described as Barnett's long time companion.
[quote] Of particular interest to wrestling fans is the book's claims of a three-year period in Lexington, Ky., in which the erudite Barnett is purported to have provided numerous members of the team with perks in return for sexual favors. Barnett's posh residence, according to the book, became a home away from campus for a number of players and a place where the mat matchmaker could do his own "recruiting."
[quote] It wasn't just UK players who had become involved with Jimmy and Lonnie. Some EKU players were also known to frequent the Lakewood Drive home. One EKU player was "discovered" by Rock Hudson at Jimmy and Lonnie's. You can read all about it here at Cyborg.com which is a United K ingdom fan site for Lee Majors.

The names were changed - Lee was "Brik" and Farrah was "Kendall" but it was easy to figure out who the author was talking about. The kid said Majors hardly ever saw "Kendall" and she knew about them. At the height of Majors' fame he set the kid up in a mansion where the help was starting to get suspicious about their relationship. Majors' major kink was what the kid called "The Drowning Boy" wherein Lee would pull him out of the pool and give him mouth-to-mouth -- aquatic necrophilia. The kid was a spoiled brat who treated Lee like trash, once sending his entire fleet of luxury cars down their steep driveway where they crashed into the gate. I wish I could find that book. I'd love to read it again.

^^There was a book by that name about Judy Garland. Maybe the one about Majors was called Both Sides of the Rainbow or something like that. I know it had Rainbow in the title. Help me DL.

Bingo! "Both Sides of the Rainbow" -- Both Sides of the Rainbow" is based on a true story of a handsome, young gay man who moves to Beverly Hills to pursue a career in modeling. His adventures and misadventures involve many of the stars of the 70's and 80's. Lana Turner, Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, and Grace Kelly are just some of the Hollywood legends he knew. While the fast lane was addictive and exciting for the 24 years he shared with a popular movie star, he could see the destruction of his friends' lives and made a life changing decision to leave it all and settle down with the love of his life and his two West Highland terriers in Georgia...the other side of the rainbow.

Sure Jan. The kid became a drug addict and the Enquirer was sniffing around, paying off the help for tips. Lee shipped him back to Georgia.

According to Linda Evans, Lee Majors was so unsure about the future of “The Big Valley” that he maintained his job as a park ranger for over a year, in case the show was not successful.

So many posts here about Lee and Rock... and if you read through his Wikipedia page, Rock gets ZERO mention in helping to start Lee's career. Here's the description of making it to Hollywood: he moved to Los Angeles and found work at the Los Angeles Park and Recreation Department as the recreation director for North Hollywood Park. In Los Angeles, Majors met many actors and industry professionals, including Dick Clayton, who had been James Dean's agent, and Clayton suggested he attend his acting school. After one year of acting school, Clayton felt that Majors was ready to start his career. At this time, he picked up the stage name Lee Majors as a tribute to childhood hero Johnny Majors who was a player and future coach for the University of Tennessee. Majors also studied at Estelle Harman's acting school at MGM.

Back in the day, Rock and several of his "friends" used to spend time at a hunting lodge in Kentucky one of the men owned. Lee, and a few other boys from the area, were their pass around boys during their visits. That's how Rock and Lee became acquainted. Rock saw something in Lee he though Hollywood could use and eventually brought him out west. And the rest is history.

[quote] ended up seeing [Farrah] two weeks in one year,” he recalled about their marriage. “She was off doing films and stuff, and doing her series, and I was doing mine. That’s mainly the reason we got divorced; we never saw each other. We stayed great friends, but we just had our own careers going and didn’t have time for each other.” Sounds like Lee and Farrah had the kind of marriage Tim Tebow dreamt of.
This quote is interesting to me because if I recall correctly when Farrah left Charlie's Angels she used her marriage as an excuse because supposedly Lee wanted her home to "make his dinner every night" So why did she really leave the show? I always thought that was the dumbest move of her professional life and Lee was also a fool to encourage her to leave.

Miss Major's owes his career to being Rock Hudson's boy toy.. He was a nobody ex University of Kentucky footall player. He got swept up in the Dirty 30 gay sex scandal. The sex scandal centers around activities at the Lakewood Drive home of wrestling promoter Jim Barnett and his partner, Lonnie Winters. (Ragland doesn’t name many UK players, citing his belief they were victims.)Barnett and Winters lure players with money, food and alcohol, and later pay football players for sex. Rock Hudson, who became involved in Lexington’s gay scene while filming in and around Danville , personally calls UK players at their dorm. Apparently one of the coaches was gay and was pimping the team out to Hudson and wealthy out of staters. Suddenly Rock Hudson the #1 box office movie star was showing up a Major's little family home and barbequing steaks. No one appeared to think this was odd least of all Majors blushing 19yo bride. Presto Lee Majors is in Hollywood and lands a role in a major TV show. And yes Miss Majors was a member of the university Young Republicans .How a Kentucky young repug with a tight end and a big valley became a STAH.

Not to derail the thread, but Nick Adams was the dad of ultra-twink Jeb Stuart Adams, probably most known from Flowers in the Attic, the 1987 film adaptation of VC Andrews's novel. Jeb appeared in several episodes of Robert Conrad's series Black Sheep Squadron.

I wonder if Lee and Chuck Connors ever hooked up. I know Chuck liked man hole, but then he was reputed to like them quite young. In adulthood Johhny Crawford (his son on 'The Rifleman') reputedly would set him up with various young lads as he was a big aficionado of boy lust himself.

R157 The whole concept of Conrad's TV series, "High Mountain Rangers," was to serve as a vehicle for him and his two sons to star in an action-adventure series. It ran for a 12 episodes on CBS before it was pulled. They then tried to rework it, and it was turned into another series called "Jesse Hawkes" (the name of Conrad's character in shows). The location where the action took place was changed from the High Sierras in the former to San Francisco in the latter. It ran for six episodes.

Now that would’ve been a hot coupling. Chuck reportedly did gay porno reels before he became famous as an actor (I’ve seen one, and the guy on the reel does look like him). He was tall and thin, but he had a giant ass on him. I get a kick out of seeing him walk on The Rifleman, because he was slightly bow legged and walked with a little switch in his hips. I’d also heard about the rumor that Johnny Crawford set him up with dudes, although I don’t really want to think about little Mark setting up his “Pa” with trade. R184 About three years ago, Entertainment Lawyer published a blind item submitted by a reader who presumably was on set/location to witness this:
[quote] Reader Blind: Many years ago, there were two successful TV shows made by the same company ("Mark VII Limited"). The first one featured two male leads. The older one is now deceased. The younger one is gay, but has been in a very long lavender marriage. He is not actually the father of his children. The second show was kind of an ensemble with the cast split between two different locations. Behind the scenes, this show was a huge party. There was a crossover between the two shows and the two male actors who were arguably the most well known of the second show's cast discovered the first show actor was gay and so bullied and taunted and mocked him during the shoot. Finally both show's A list producer/creator who was also an actor had to step in. He was a very authoritative guy and the two second show cast members quickly stopped this behavior. May 25, 2021
"Mark VII Limited"
"Adam-12" - Martin Milner/Kent McCord
"Emergency!" paramedics and firefighters in the Los Angeles metropolitan area - Randolph Mantooth/Kevin Tighe
Jack Webb "Dragnet"

What people like R230 seem to forget is that it works both ways. The younger gays don't know some of the older heartthrobs, and the eldergays don't know some of the latest trendy boys. No surprise either way. But usually the eldergays aren't rude about it like the youngers tend to be. One of the foibles of youth is the mistaken belief they they are original -that they have come up with something that the old folks never thought of or understood. That what they think is cool/stylish/whatever will remain that way -or at least that they will forever be the arbiters.
Just yesterday I watched a YouTube video on men's style, aimed at twenty-something (presumably straight) guys. Who did they flash on screen as an example to emulate? Cary Grant in his gray suit from North By Northwest. The video didn't bother to explain who he was. It just focused on his classic style. Young people don't have to share our idols, our music, or tastes -but it's nothing to their credit when they proudly proclaim ignorance of it. Everyone should be able to appreciate some of the people, places, and things that came before their time.

[quote] Everyone should be able to appreciate some of the people, places, and things that came before their time.
Lots of people do. A major star who's still talked about in the culture like Cary Grant is known to many people. A show like Adam 12 and Kent McCord is quite obscure today.
It would be pretty ignorant of people in their 20s to not know who Audrey Hepburn and James Dean were. But if they don't know who Red Skelton or Jack Benny were it's really not all that ignorant of them.

Reasonable men may differ, R238. Jack Benny was a major star of Vaudeville, radio, and television. He made more than a few movies, too. One of the most beloved figures in showbiz history. Not knowing him is ignorance. As for Adam12, it was a major show in its day. Just because you don't know it doesn't make it obscure. As someone above thread already posted, it's been in constant rerun/syndication for ages, like I Love Lucy.

r239 Jack Benny isn't really a part of the public consciousness anymore, certainly not in the same way as Lucille Ball. It's not surprising at all that most people don't know who he is.
Believe it or not, most people are not watching reruns of tv shows from five decades ago, unlike eldergays.

The origin of the rumor from R149 about Bob Conrad and Nick Adams comes from this old gossip rag published in Hollywood by Bill Dakota from 1975-1980. He was notorious for publishing a list of Bisexuals in Hollywood, a list which included Bob Conrad and Lee Majors....

I slogged through the book at R125 so you don't have to. Written in a florid, gushing style, 17-year-old Chris is a cute, entitled, rather bitchy twink in the touring company of West Side Story.
"Brik Moor (Lee Majors), the most popular television and movie star of the 1970s and early 1980s had attended seven or eight performances and that had created quite a stir with the cast and crew. At one point I had a group of friends ringed around me as I launched into a story about some person who had been in the audience that night and had come backstage. My friends were greatly absorbed in the story, listening intently, when I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Brik.
I stopped mid-sentence, whirled around to see who was interrupting me and saw a very handsome man holding two glasses of champagne. My first comment to this established movie and television star was "Can't you see I'm busy? You'll have to wait."
"I want to talk with you," he smiled.
(Sure Jan)
Soon after they begin living together, Brik takes Chris up to see Rock Hudson:
"Our driver whisked us through the gates of an expansive Spanish-style mansion fit for the star that Rock was. Through the tinted backseat windows, I saw an unforgettable sight, a 6'4" Rock Hudson lounging against a two-story pillar at his front entrance. His tan body was wrapped in a paisley caftan and dangling from those luscious lips was what seemed to be a foot long cigarette holder tipped at a jaunty angle." (MARY!)

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
