What people like R230 seem to forget is that it works both ways. The younger gays don't know some of the older heartthrobs, and the eldergays don't know some of the latest trendy boys. No surprise either way. But usually the eldergays aren't rude about it like the youngers tend to be. One of the foibles of youth is the mistaken belief they they are original -that they have come up with something that the old folks never thought of or understood. That what they think is cool/stylish/whatever will remain that way -or at least that they will forever be the arbiters.

Just yesterday I watched a YouTube video on men's style, aimed at twenty-something (presumably straight) guys. Who did they flash on screen as an example to emulate? Cary Grant in his gray suit from North By Northwest. The video didn't bother to explain who he was. It just focused on his classic style. Young people don't have to share our idols, our music, or tastes -but it's nothing to their credit when they proudly proclaim ignorance of it. Everyone should be able to appreciate some of the people, places, and things that came before their time.
