Madonna gets a reputation for being mean but it’s rare she actually attacks anyone publicly. Elton John has been pretty vile toward and her and Piers Morgan and she basically never responds. She might be a monster behind closed doors for all we know, but she’s generally restrained and isnt prone to tirades, so I’m not sure it’s entirely warranted.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 17, 2024 2:43 PM |
Speaking of which, Piers Morgan is a an odious cretin and Elton John an utter bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 17, 2024 2:44 PM |

Donald Trump probably wins the thread. He’s a celebrity, like it or not, who also happens to be the fucking devil.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 17, 2024 2:47 PM |
But Piers Morgan and Elton John are celebrities with position, such as it is, love, hate or be indifferent to them. They know how to counter-punch and aren't afraid of a public brawl.
The reports I've read here at the good old DL describe Madonna being mean to and punching down on powerless nobodies.
That shit, if true, doesn't speak well of someone who is rich and famous.
Noblesse Oblige, its phony or honest practice thereof, still has value.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 17, 2024 2:52 PM |
Sometimes a truly mean person is seen in a more positive light after they suffer a personal tragedy, which makes absolutely no sense to me. They still did all those terrible things. A little bad luck doesn't rewrite the past. And then after they die, everyone will act like they were a saint. And the people they were mean to will then be looked at as villains. Such bullshit.

R33 I’ve worked with Maria Shriver three times over the course of 20 years for a charity event. She was fun and sweet the first time, nice but not as warm the second time. The last time I worked with her….child! She’s on some kind of opioids. Totally off in the head.

I tell this story on DL every time about Maria. When she was Cali's First Lady, she owned a home goods store in Brentwood called Room With A View. A friend worked there and she said that anytime Maria's white Mercedes pulled up and the door slammed, everyone started shaking. They were in for at least a half an hour of screaming. After Arnold's affair with the housekeeper was revealed, my friend said it made total sense because Maria undoubtedly treated domestics worse than shit so this maid had the most glorious secret and revenge on her.

A Black woman who used to work on The Ellen DeGeneres Show told BuzzFeed News she experienced racist comments, actions, and “microaggressions” during her year and a half as an employee. She said when she was hired, a senior-level producer told her and another Black employee, “Oh wow, you both have box braids; I hope we don’t get you confused.” And at a work party, she said, one of the main writers told her, “I’m sorry, I only know the names of the white people who work here,” and other coworkers “awkwardly laughed it off” instead of coming to her defense.
When the former employee brought up issues of race and representation on the show and asked producers not to use offensive terms like “spirit animal” in segments, her colleagues called her “the PC police.”

I began reading about Ellen's meanness during the 2007 Writer's Guild strike when some writers used their time to blog about her backstage behavior. The only things I recall are that she glowered at staff when displeased, wouldn’t say what she wanted, and expected immediate mind reading and correction. Also, Christmas bonuses for the writers was some very low denomination Amex gift card. Recall she used to shill for them.

Broadway people, in general, are nasty and catty. This has been the case for decades. I think it's because they feel stuck on Broadway and would much rather have careers in TV and film, and have recording careers. Eight shows a week for little pay and recognition turns them into bitches.

Donald Spoto's biography details many of the mean things Hitchcock did to people over the years, the most notorious being the unnecessary torture of Tippi Hedren in set during "The Birds" by forcing her for a week to have animal wranglers throw live birds directly at her. She eventually had a breakdown when a gull tied to her went for her eye, and production had to be shut down for days.
Hitchcock loved pulling pranks on people, just as Ellen does. Chronic pranksters are usually people with a LOT of anger bottled in them (see also: Mel Gibson), and so they think it's funny to see other people humiliated.

The Simpsons voice actors are some of the luckiest cunts in showbiz. They just happened to be in the right place at the right time and got a dream gig that's made them millions. I can sort of, in a very minor way, understand that perhaps someone with hundreds of employees under them may not want to say hi to every one of them, know their names, etc. They should delegate that to several assistants, so that any questions get answered calmly.
But for Ellen to treat a neighbor like that is outrageous. If she yelled "Get back" at me I'd yell back "Get fucked, you crazy bitch!"

Kathy Griffin, her own problems aside, made a guest appearance on Ellen’s sitcom and wrote about it in her book. She said the table read was very tense, that nobody would laugh unless Ellen did. Griffin said Ellen ruled that set with an iron fist.
Others have good things to say about Ellen from that period, but Griffin was one of the first to publicly criticise her. The floodgates would open later.

I handled a lot of celebrities who came to my college when I was a student. There were many nice ones, but some were difficult.
Lauren Bacall was bossy and dismissive, and treated everyone like they were beneath her Miserable woman. Think Jean Smart's character in Hacks.
Cary Grant was cold as ice, and his stern wife was even colder. I think he was attracted to me, but didn't want to show it in front of his wife, so he was aloof.
Terri Nunn of Berlin. I knocked on her dressing room door to see if she needed anything and she answered in just a towel. She told me to come in and opened her towel(she was completely naked) and asked if I liked what I saw? I nearly passed out because I was still closeted and I had no interest in her. It was SO awkward. I never dealt with her again. I wanted her bandmate John Crawford to seduce me instead, but he never did.

This isn't a personal story but a friend of mine was a student at Columbia University in the late 90s when Sigourney Weaver visited for some event or another. My friend was in charge of her during her time there, i.e. showing her around, introducing her to people, seeing if she needed anything etc. He said she was absolutely lovely and chatted with him about his life and goals etc. while he was with her. A few days after the event she called him personally to thank him and tell him what a good time she had.

I was in the galley and asked the cabin crew (this was LHR-JFK in F) if they had ever worked any flights with her and if the rumours were true. One said she had flown with her many times and she very diplomatically said, "well, she never spoke to you personally, it was always her husband, assistant or travelling companion, so as I never spoke to her I cannot say whether those rumours are true". That said it all to me!

A few Chevy Chase stories ...
Director Chris Columbus was hired to direct Chevy in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, but that gig was over before a line of dialogue was recorded. A get-to-know-you dinner was a disaster. “To be completely honest,” says Columbus, “Chevy treated me like dirt.” A second meeting went even worse. “I called John (Hughes) and said, 'There’s no way I can do this movie. I know I need to work, but I can’t do it with this guy’.”
The new Not Ready for Prime Time Players revered Chase as a comedy god, says cast member Terry Sweeney, but it didn’t take long for God to start smiting. “(Chase) said to Robert Downey, Jr., ‘Didn’t your father used to be a successful director? Whatever happened to him? Boy, he sure died, you know, he sure went to hell.’”
That was nothing compared to what Chevy had loaded up for Sweeney, the show’s first openly gay cast member. “I’ve got an idea for a sketch for you. How about we say you have AIDS and we weigh you every week?” Chase wasn’t done, according to Jon Lovitz. At a writers’ meeting, “Chevy looks at Terry Sweeney and goes, “You’re gay, right?” Terry goes, “Yes, what would you like me to do for you?” Chevy goes, “Well, you can start by licking my balls.” “It was out of place,” says Sweeney. Lorne Michaels agreed and tried to get Chevy to set things right. “So then he ended up … coming to my office. He was really furious that he had to apologize to me. He was a monster.”

A lot of the people who refuse to interact directly with working people (or try to prohibit working people from looking at them) grew up in very poor circumstances themselves or else worried they would spend their lives being poor. The "don't look at me"/"don't talk to me, even if it's your job" prohibition is a way of exercising distance and control from their poor backgrounds.
I used to live in Los Angeles, and though i did not work in the entertainment industry, I had friends who did, and they would indulge this behavior, and not just socially. I was more than once instructed before parties or get-togethers not to look directly at some celebrity or other who would be there: not just not [italic]gawk[/italic] at them (which is understandable, although I think that would have gone without saying), but not even to cast my eyes in their direction. I realized when I left LA how insane that was and how it just enabled celebrities to keep demanding that behavior.

The biggest pain in the ass I ever dealt with was Jeannie C. Riley. To set the stage, it was at least 90 degrees and she was in a fur coat. I was helping out at a graduation ceremony and was tasked with finding her a seat. Every time I found one, she hated it. Four or five seats were rejected and finally I told her I had to get back to the door. She huffed at me and plopped down in a set designated for handicapped. I said screw it and left her there.

She's was so miserable that a few people actually tried to punch her on the set of Sheila Levine. Roy Scheider, no walk in the park himself, said if she were a guy he would have beaten the shit out of her. She had something of a resurgence last year when she was seen with Bill Murray. I have a friend who used to drive a limousine and wound up doing a lot of work for Letterman and Saturday Night Live.
He said David Letterman was cold and curt to the point of overt hostility and made him feel uncomfortable.
He said Paul Schaffer was the absolute nastiest prick he ever encountered, on the job or off. Whiny. mean, belittling, foul-mouthed.
The SNL cast members were a mixed bunch. He had memories of RDJ during that time and said he started out a bouncy, friendly, happy-go-lucky sort and then got sadder and more quiet as the year went one, actually bursting into tears the last time he saw him. Look at the timeline, he suspected RDJ had been told he would not be returning to the show that day.
He drove Bacall a number of times during the same period. Said she was quiet (read in the car) but perfectly civil and tipped him well. He also said it was not until she left the car the first time he drove her that he realized she had star power - he said she got out of the car as if she was shrugging off a floor-length sable.

There was a huge amount of pressure on her to be the family-friendly dyke that the general public could be at ease with. FFS, the fucking Harkles take the cake.
The wannabe face of L'Oréal spent years in interviews name-dropping by saying Ellen the arsehole told her to buy a rescue dog, which she ended up ghosting because the dog didn't like Dimbo.
Getting her ex-husband to get her a role in Suits, then FedExing her rings back to him.
Dimbo dashing off across the pond to see his father, the King, as Thomas Markle has long one foot in the grave and has never actually met Harry. And hasn't even met Archie and Lili. But Dimbo merched the visit with Charles on GMA and tried to get back in with his family. Using cancer to get back in.
Mainly inviting celebs to the evening wedding reception and not even inviting Markle's family, save Doria, to the actual wedding.
Nothing says arsehole like a person who tries to get an A-list celebrity they've never met like Reese Witherspoon to come to their wedding, but has no siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and childhood friends there.
Shitting on the entire BRF from great height via Oprah, the Netflix special and WAAUGH.
Nobody is meaner than the Harkles that we know of, Trump aside.

When he was asked about what Oprah was like, the classmate said Oprah, behind the scenes, is unpleasant to EVERYBODY.
Donald Trump probably wins the thread.
I pray for his death daily, but I’m forced to disagree. As a person interacting with other random people, he’s actually supposed to be rather charming.
Of course he’s a pathological narcissist, so when someone’s in his way, forget it.
I actually saw an example of this in the late 80s. I was working in the pr business before I went to law school and took a client to the restaurant in one of Leona’s hotels (I forget the name, on 43nd st, I think near third ave). My colleague Marilyn had joked that there was a table there that was Leona’s and was reserved always for her. She was right! On this occasion the client and I sit down and sure enough Leona is there with Trump. We noticed and whispered about it.
A few minutes later the client stood talking in mid sentence. He was seated facing Leona’s table. Leona is having a meltdown about the butter. My client narrated because I’m not the kind to turn around and stare. Apparently Leona was putting the poor girl through the wringer, but the whole time Trump was trying to talk Leona down and make the girl relax.
I had read so much about Trump in Spy (THE magazine of the 80s) that this took me by surprise.
Maureen Dowd has said the same — that Trump can be quite reasonable and charming in private.
Still hope he dies though!

R18, actually they were very close friends. Bacall was not a nice woman. I saw that up close. She was a crank- cheap, chip on her shoulder for some reason, loud and abusive. But when you gave it back to her- she backed down.
I’ve never heard or rather read of more peers speaking poorly about a peer than Madonna. Faye D is mentally ill- my guess is a borderline personality.

Danny Kaye was well-known as being a mean, nasty asshole.
From writer Mark Evanirs blog, featuring shade most delicious from Vincent Price:
" I remember this show being quite wonderful and this episode does not disappoint. Danny Kaye is amazing. He sings, he dances, he does characters, he tells jokes…he's absolutely perfect to star in a weekly variety show. I love him on screen enough to be troubled and conflicted by something. Years later when I got into the business of writing — sometimes writing variety shows, in fact — I got to work with and/or know an awful lot of people who worked on this show including all but one of its writers. They all hated Danny Kaye. I was very close with Howard Morris who was a recurring sketch player on this show. He hated Danny Kaye. I did a show one time with Vincent Price, who was one of the sweetest, gentlest men you could ever hope to meet. Over lunch, someone remarked how the actors who played the worst villains were always like that in real life and Mr. Price remarked, "Yes, it amuses me how many people thought I was like the monster in the Edgar Allan Poe movies and thought Danny Kaye was a nice man."

"Adding my 2 cents here. I met Danny Kaye. To make a long story short, I grew up in NY City. I was a teenager and went with a bunch of friends to see Two By Two starring Danny Kaye. Because of some connections, our group went backstage to meet DK. Now, I was an insecure 15-year-old who had struggled with my weight since toddlerhood....I managed to keep my weight just slightly above the acceptable range for my height by continuous diet and reasonable exercise.
Danny Kaye took it upon himself to humiliate me in front of my friends by telling me I was fat and needed to lose weight. Please tell me why a grown man felt the need to do that to a child. I hated him from that day forward -- to this day I won't watch anything that has Danny Kaye in it. "

The infamous Pearl Bailey/Maya Angelou story was confirmed by Maya Angelou's son on American Masters:
My mother had a chance to do the understudy in 'Hello Dolly' with Pearl Bailey as the lead. For my mother it would have meant living continuously in New York, without leaving me for at least a year. And it was regular money.
The director and the producer both loved her but Pearl Bailey came back and said 'Oh no, I ain't gonna have this big ol' ugly girl be my understudy.' There are very few times in my life that I remember my mother crying, because this meant she had to go back out on the road and find other work.
It was devastating because I knew all the sacrifices my mother made to keep me. 35 years later when Pearl Bailey was getting a Lifetime award, and they asked her, 'Who do you want to give it to you?' She said, 'Maya Angelou.' And guess who gave it to her, and never said a damn thing?

Julianna Margulies has had negative stories following her since she broke out on ER. Then again, so did/do all the original cast members. Margulies died an under-five (sort of) and came back to life as a stah. The only person that I've read about having actually apologized for being an asshole was Noah Wyle.

I work in the industry and can tell you that just about everyone is mean at some point or other. So much pressure to behave, to keep up the image, and to fake intelligence (very few actors have IQs much over 100, although a few are actually very smart). Now and then you do run into some, however, who try their best to always be nice. David Hyde Pierce is a good man. Keanu Reeves lives up to his reputation. Jon Stewart is totally down to earth
But the meanest I ever ran into was Oprah. She truly believes that she is above the human race, and all the rest of us are either possible subjects in her kingdom, or people to be ignored or ridiculed. A horror of a woman. And yes, a lesbian from top to bottom.

Oprah throws a 'they don't know who I am' look at the guy who is with them, then tries to recover by complimenting them at how grown up they were for their age (7 y/o)

Pushing back on this arrogant take for a second here. What aspect of the business do you work in? It's a bit different on LA sets, but with NY sets, almost all the actors come from theater backgrounds and are polite, professional and intelligent and know how to play well with others. A few exceptions of course, but just who the fuck are you to assess the intelligence quotient of anyone?
Martin Freeman
From an article by Cailtin Moran (also a cunt) during the run of Sherlock:
Standing outside a location trailer is Martin Freeman. He is notably not wearing the safety helmets that are mandatory for everyone else on set, and is in the middle of explaining to one of the Sherlock runners – who is wearing her safety helmet – just why this is. “I’m a big fish, you see, love,” he says, sipping at his tea. “I’m… Johnny Big Bollocks. And you’re… you’re… what’s that stuff whales eat? Krill. You’re krill. Location krill. Krill wears a helmet.”
Freeman is on very good form today. Incredibly funny and incredibly filthy, he makes a comment about Una Stubbs that it would be inappropriate to repeat in The Times. (“I’ve been flirting with Una,” he concludes, after the bad story. “Well, it’s actually sexual aggression, but I often find the line between the two quite blurry.”)

Comedians or comedic actors on the whole are very unhappy people, with low impulse control. I've only worked with 3 that seemed normal: Al Madrigal, Conan, and Stephen Colbert.

Lauren Bacall led a very charmed life. Why was that bitch so miserable? If Bogart survived longer, he would’ve put that bitch in her place. He would’ve never tolerated seeing her rudeness to ordinary people. (Ironically, she WAS Beth Jarrett.)
After Bogart died, she fell in love with Frank Sinatra. After he rejected her, she never moved past her bitterness. She said Frank should have talked to her, face to face, about why he ended the relationship. Actions speak louder than words. She never had the last word and was infuriated. Frank artfully dodged that bullet.

Andy is actually very sweet when he's sober, but he literally turns into the devil once he gets booze into him. It's so sad seeing his downfall, he actually had a really cool mid century house in the valley.
And people don't know about the Christian Bale rant- I've worked with the cinematographer's (DP) camera crew, and they told me that the DP was a complete asshole- would try to adjust the lights right in front of the actors while they were shooting a take, and treat his crew terribly (a lot of DPs do though). CB is method, and you never get into their eyeline when they're shooting. So the DP was in CB's eyeline screwing around with the lights, and CB decided he had enough of his foolishness and chewed him out. The camera crew came up to CB and thanked him for taking him down.

I think you're right, R402. The Buffy fandom gossip has consistently alluded that there was an unnamed female cast member that was fucking Joss Whedon and was the Dick Pig Dian of the show, making everyone else miserable and getting away with it because she was fucking the boss. I've read insinuations that it was Amy Acker, but more often that it was Hannigan.
During the original run there were many negative stories about Sarah Michelle Gellar's behavior on set. But most of the costars have since confirmed that she was totally professional and always looked out for cast, crew, and guest stars; she just wasn't very sociable with the cast and didn't participate in Whedon's weekend Shakespeare readings, etc.

The story I heard was Amber Benson who played Tara was supposed to return as a manifestation of the First Evil to torment Willow, but Hannigan made her life so miserable (because she wanted Willow to end up with Oz) that Amber refused to return, so they had to rewrite the story.
Who was Marilyn Cooper and what did she do in Woman Of The Year?
Gawd, I feel ancient, lol.
I saw "Woman of the Year" during its pre-Broadway tryout in Boston in1981 a few months before I moved to NYC where I saw the show again.
In Act II, Marilyn Cooper appears as the current wife of Bacall's former love interest. Bacall visits her and they trade stories about their lives and man troubles in a song called "The Grass is Always Greener", which stopped the show cold every night due to Cooper's looks- the polar opposite of the glamorous upscale Bacall and her magically nasal voice which blended marvelously with Bacall's foghorn of a voice. All Bacall had to do was sit there enjoying her co-star's performance, singing along when needed. Her utter delight in Marilyn's performance made her look like a warm and generous star, which by all accounts she wasn't. The applause demanded an immediate reprise which added to the fun.
At the Tony Awards that season both ladies walked away with their trophies in a stroll as Best Actress in a Musical and Best Featured Actress in a Musical due to this one number.

I think at times it must have been tough for Bacall to be asked about Bogart on every talk show or interview show appearance she ever made. They were married only about 11 years, and she was asked about him for the next 50 years. Granted she did perpetuate it by writing her autobiography and doing the TV doc, Bacall on Bogart.
Anyhow, she once said on a talk show I was watching that she didn't know why she kept being asked about Sinatra, that it wasn't a long relationship and it was a long time ago.

Despite playing a goodhearted, folksy sheriff on the show, Griffith had a reputation as a mean drunk and had some costars shaking in their boots! “Friends winced at the thought of spending an evening in the Griffith home,” said Daniel de Visé, author of the book Andy & Don. George Lindsey, who played Goober Pyle, a hayseed car mechanic on the show from 1964 to 1968, noted Griffith’s volatile moods in his 1995 memoir, Goober in a Nutshell. “Most of us were deathly afraid of Andy,” recalled Lindsey, who died in 2012. “Every Monday night, he would call you if he liked your performance. If the call didn’t come, I dreaded going back to work on Tuesday morning.”

The Andy Griffith post reminded me of Frances Bavier, who played Aunt Bee on the show. She was a nasty old bitch and thoroughly unpleasant. Nobody liked her. After the show ended she retired to a little town in North Carolina and became a crazy cat lady recluse. Her house was a pigsty and there were more than a dozen cats in it.

Why did Andy Griffith state in his will that he be buried as close to immediately after his death as possible?

R461 here. I'd never heard or read anything about Knott's sexuality (I certainly wasn't curious and Googling about it!) I just assumed he was gay. He does have something of cookie-sniffing look so I was genuinely surprised about his horn dog ways.

by Anonymous | reply 473 | February 25, 2024 10:06 PM |
I think Ken Berry's words about Frances Bavier are revealing and sincere and tell you a lot about this much maligned actress who had to deal with the powerful orneriness of Andy Griffith on a daily basis for years on end. There weren't many women on that Mayberry set, even fewer older women I'd guess, and I'm sure it was something of a boys' club lorded over by Griffith. She probably had the patient of a saint.
But maybe I'm wrong. Has Ron Howard ever talked about Frances Bavier? I'd tend to believe him.
by Anonymous | reply 474 | February 26, 2024 12:24 AM |
I read about this a long time ago so I forget, but I think the people in that NC town asked her to move there, because she'd been on the show that takes place in the area. But then they didn't like her. Can't remember more than that.
by Anonymous | reply 475 | February 26, 2024 1:14 AM |
The article at r457 says Bavier came from a wealthy New York family so she probably had an attitude that didn't go over well in a small Southern town.

Does anyone remember a 1950s sitcom (you'd have to be verrrrry old!) with Frances Bavier in which she played the spinster sister to two nutty brothers, one of whom was played by the great James Dunn Oscar winner for A Tree Grows in Brooklyn) ? Can't remember the title of it but I watched it in morning reruns in the late 50s as kid and loved it. And so I know Bavier even before Mayberry fame.
by Anonymous | reply 477 | February 26, 2024 3:40 AM |
Just looked it up and the series title was It's a Wonderful Life and only James Dunn played Bavier's brother. But the other 2 stars were the sexy William Bishop and Michael O'Shea, who played Dunn's chums and were always getting him into trouble.
Anyway......who else is mean?

R480. Okay, well, yes they did. I was thinking of Lana Turner, who she supposedly gave shit to, and Marilyn Monroe, who she publicly derided. But more to the point, Lucy Marlow, who she started out mentoring on Queen Bee, then turned on. Betsy Palmer implied it was probably because the kid didn't turn out to be that good and Crawford was disappointed in her.

by Anonymous | reply 488 | February 26, 2024 3:43 PM |
Ann Sothern, older and heavier than she once was, made newcomer Barbara Eden feel very unwelcome when the latter made a guest appearance on Ann’s show. Barbara was whisked back to hair and makeup, only for the stylist to call up Ann and say, “I’m sorry, Miss Sothern. There’s nothing I can do to make her look bad.”
Ann then refused to speak to Barbara for the remainder of the shoot, instead barking orders at the director. “Turn her around! Make her do this! Make her do that!”
Eden has alluded to the incident in many interviews but only named Sothern as the culprit in her book. She still seems shaken by it.
By contrast, she found Lucille Ball a pleasure to work with, and that “sparkly dress” story has given her much fodder over the years.

One of The Lucy Show directors who worked with Ann Sothern on that series didn’t speak bad of her, per se, but admitted he called her “The Princess”, because you had to pamper Ann to get a good show out of her. I could see her being intimidating to younger ingenue types. And Barbara was very young and green when that incident happened, so it probably had a bigger effect on her than it would’ve to someone more experienced.

Lucy considered having Sothern play her sidekick on her show after Viv left, but Sothern wanted equal billing which was delusional. Or perhaps, she knew that Lucy would be hell to work with at that point. Lucie Arnaz has said that Viv and Ann Sothern were the only people who would stand up to her mother.
Sothern did like taking breaks for ice cream with crushed oreos and chocolate syrup----her fat ass wasn't just a side effect of Hepatitis.
Back to Eden--she's turned not much talent or career into an occupation. There are countless working actresses her age (or even younger) who have had more real longevity in the business. She was lucky to have a second rate knock off of a big hit that lasted long enough for syndication.

Ann Sothern was a perfect foil for Lucy when she appeared as her PRIVATE SECRETARY sitcom character Susie McNamara in the first of those Lucy/Desi Comedy Hours about how the Ricardos met in post-WII Havana. And Cesar Romero and Rudy Vallee were also great fun.
Loved Ann in so many things back to her MGM years, but admittedly not as that silly Countess de Framboise character (or whatever she was called) that was created for The Lucy Show.

Ann Sothern was starring in the movie Kid Millions when Lucy was literally in the chorus, trying to be noticed by the camera. I don't blame her for trying to get star billing with Lucy, not be reduced to being Vivian Vance.

He sat near the street so he could be seen but had a security person stand outside in case any fans rushed up to see him. Someone at the restaurant asked "Who is that?" because it was quite a sight. They said, Andy Cohen. The person responded who? the restaurant was fairly empty and no one was going to bother him. It was the most obnoxious spectacle.

He wasn't the meanest, or even mean, but Mark Ruffalo (for four months) employed a now-former assistant whom I knew through a boyfriend before she moved to Maine. She said he was a combination of older brother, employer, and passive-aggressive depressant/didactic bully. He kept a second apartment as an office here in NYC where he brought a girlfriend he was cheating on his wife with. When he wasn't there the assistant lived there, and he basically expected her to keep it clean instead of hiring someone. She said he was surprisingly dirty and would not always flush the toilet after he'd used it. He was depressed by the murder of his brother, partly because he didn't even like his brother but felt guilty about it.
She realized she wasn't equipped to be an assistant, so she quit, and he gave her a thousand dollars. Because he was cheating on his wife, she thought that might have been an unspoken bribe. She did say he was an extremely loving father to his kids, but she was disheartened because she said she'd always had a crush on him but in reality he was dark, depressed, and resentful. She was happy to leave

He was a fucking amateur compared to me!

Let it go, Viv at R579.

R528, no one here said they were shocked. And no, not everyone cheats.

Very surprised at Ruffalo. I guess that would explain why his wife was practically sitting on his lap at the Golden Globes.

This was in Variety today
I did a film with an absolute idiot of a co-star and this human being was being so insecure and angry because this person couldn’t get the scenes out,” she said. “And I think I was so vulnerable and uncomfortable that I got screamed at and I would cry walking off set.”
”This person would literally look at me in front of the whole crew and say, ‘You call yourself an actor? This is what I have to work with?’ I stood there just breaking,” Ferguson continued. “Because this person was number one on the call sheet, there was no safety net for me. No one had my back.”
Ferguson said the experience was the first time she ever spoke up for herself as an actor on a set. She arrived on set the next day and told the actor, “You get off my set. You can F off. I’m gonna work towards a tennis ball. I never want to see you again.”
And then I remember the producers came up and said, ‘You can’t do this to number one. We have to let this person be on set,'” Ferguson remembered. “And I said, ‘The person can turn around and I can act to the back of the head.’ And I did. I was so scared. I feel it now when I’m saying it.”
Maybe this should go in a blind item post

^ Rebecca Ferguson, that is

People are guessing that Alec Baldwin is who she's talking about.

You’d drink too if you had to wring laughs out of being married to Vivian Vance.
And then she had to sing along to a song that *I* introduced in vaudeville.

Hope Ruffalo wiped his nasty ass before filming this scene.

William Frawley and Mark Ruffalo--ass to ass.

Please don't start a second thread. This "mean celebrity" gossip from 1947 or so is not interesting or tittelating. We get it and thanks...but please no more.

How was Ruffalo's brother killed?

Given how similar to their characters they come across on the It's Always Sunny podcast, I'm guessing Glenn Howerton is a prick in real life too

Does anyone even know Ben Foster, the actor? Worked with him about 8 years ago. A true horror.

I have seen his movies r593. What did he do to you?
by Anonymous | reply 594 | February 29, 2024 1:03 AM |
^ No, but not surprising.

Details about Ben Foster, please!

Can't get too specific cause it will reveal too much but Foster was a complete lout. No respect for the director or anyone else involved on the project. And his talent wasn't worth it. Tiny macho creep.
Does he work much now? Can't say I've followed his career.

Glenn Howerton seems too smart and self-aware to be an outright cunt.

Thanks, R599. Fuck you, R590.
