Some of the most stringent in the world. This is a great step and hopefully in the next decade or so we will see FULL-OUT, immediate bans! Not just grandfathering.
Another reason to love Canada, their tobacco control policies! 🥰

Do these policies also apply to Nunavut?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 16, 2024 1:05 AM |
This is dumb and grandstanding.
I was a smoker for 30 years and knew very well it was bad for me. You might make the argument that third world people may not know, but every Canadian (and American) knows.

R2 This has nothing to do with informing anyone. This is about shaming, and rightly so. Smokers are vile and everything should be done to make their lives as miserable as possible. There is NO safe level of exposure to cigarette smoke, if you didn't know. Brief passive inhalation takes seconds off life.

Fuck off, OP! People, especially Americans, who rail on about cigarettes are always losers. Smokers are already relegated to climb down into the sewer to enjoy a cigarette without scorn. You cunts never say anything about the massive health and safety impact of alcohol or the fact that food is basically poison in America because of the FDA that also allows pharmaceuticals to be taken like candy or the EPA and the chemicals being spilled constantly into water supplies. I’m sure your woke ass encourages “body positivity” aka obesity. What happened your Grammy or Uncle died in their late 70s allegedly due to smoking related lung cancer? I’m sure they were much more interesting in a conversation with a Marlboro in between their fingers than you’ll ever be hopped up on your psychotropic SSRI cocktail. It’s so rare to even see someone smoking in public anymore. Get off your high horse it’s not 1997.

OP is tobacco-shaming!!!

Let’s also talk about the severe mental illnesses popping up from the sky high THC levels in marijuana now.

Well that ship has sailed R6, and I don't really have a problem with it.
What I have an issue with is thinking that printing text, on a cigarette or on a pack, that NO ONE will read, will make an actual difference. This is the most virtual signaling thing I have read in a while.
There was one thing made me quit smoking and it wasn't branding or health. It was that you couldn't smoke anywhere. Even outdoor spaces are frequently restricted. It was just too much a PITA.

Just think what could be done with those precious seconds.

I applaud them! Uneducated, low-class smokers have no defense.

70% of famous Hollywood celebrities smoke on the sly.

R9 The most hilarious virtue signaling was when Beverly Hills banned smoking EVERYWHERE…
EXCEPT the cigar spots that are frequented by Schwarzenegger and other elite types. They don’t mind the ban if it doesn’t affect them.

I would venture to say that most smokers in Canada get their cigarettes from illegal resellers of Native cigarettes. They cost about 25$ for 200 rather than 18 dollars for 25 of the legal brands.

R14 Natives are nasty. Smokers have no class.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 16, 2024 1:44 AM |
I've accosted numerous people on the street for smokin native cigarettes. It is essentially a form of tax evasion and I have gone so far as to follow these people home sometimes and report their addresses to local authorities.

You’re racist! Black people love cigarettes!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 16, 2024 1:51 AM |
R16 The healthcare system is crumbling in Canada. Smokers should be thankful that the heavy taxes they pay on smokes are later put toward treating their self-inflicted diseases. I'd personally take an "you asked for it, you're on your own" approach a la what many jurisdictions chose to do with the unvaccinated who became ill with covid. We are a society, right? Smoking knowing the lethal effects it can have on others is as good as driving drunk. It is manslaughter, in a way.

I smoke and I love it. And actually when I see an attractive guy smoking it makes him hotter to me.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 16, 2024 2:16 AM |
People only rail against smokers because they have no control over their miserable little lives. It makes them feel like theiy’re doing something good for the world all the while they’re just a shit stain on it. We see right through you.
