Michael York: "Doesn't my body drive you wil dwith desire?"
He was really Hollywood's British 'It" boy after playing Tybalt in 'Romeo and Juliet" in 1968. He was so sexy, with a sweet face made all the more intriguing by a broken nose, and a great body (especially for the time). He got great roles as D'Artagnan in "The Three Musketeers" and 'The Four Musketeers" and of course as Brian in "Cabaret." He was in a lot of flops, though: "Justine," "Lost Horizon," and "Fedora." by the end of he seventies he was no longer getting good parts.
He's been married to the same woman forever, but there have been tons of stories about his bisexuality. He had serious health problems in the last twenty years but seems to be okay now.
Did anyone else jerk off thinking about him back in the day?

He's also famous for playing Logan in "Logan's Run."
And he played Basil Exposition in the "Austin Powers" movies.

His voice is absolutely beautiful.
My cousin met him once at a book signing, and he was very kind and sweet.

You haven't seen Logan's Run? Or Austin Powers?

Saw him on Broadway when he replaced Richard Gere in Bent. He was good but the play closed one month after he took over.

Moving through terminal 1 at Charles de Gaulle airport is like going to Carousel on Logan's Run. I had mixed feelings.

What about Cabaret ???? Remember ??? Liza Minnelli ?? He is stunning in that movie and happens to play a bisexual man.
And…. On Curb your Enthusiasm —- one of the partners investing in the restaurant

I've never even HEARD of that movie, r12.
But no mention of Murder on the Orient Express, featuring York and Jackie Bissett at the height of their beauty?

Apparently he put out for Zeffirelli who was infatuated with him. Go figure.

I really liked him in Romeo & Juliet when I was 15 - however Leonard Whiting's butt cast a shadow over all of the other guys in the movie - so to speak.

York played Abby's first love on Knots Landing. Allegedly thought he was too big of a star to be on the American telly, particularly on a tawdry nighttime soap.
I don't care if it's true. Even if he'd only done Cabaret, he'd still have my heart.

He made the talk show rounds maybe 10 or 12 years ago (longer?) publicizing a Cabaret anniversary screening and looked like he was knocking on deaths door. Glad he's still with us.

Recall when York was on some chat show when Don Rickles turns to him and says "Did your wife punch ya in the nose?"

Don Rickles wouldn't have a career today (but I thought he was hilarious and loved his comedy albums).

Loved him in CABARET and thought he only got sexier as he got older (15 years later on KNOTS LANDING). He made a great couple with Donna Mills.

He took the “bisexual” roles when most other actors were staying far, far away.

More's the pity, R17. The entire movie is a hoot, hottest at 39:00-40:05. 44:30-46:10, and 1:29:30-1:30:00. It used to play often on double bills with Cabaret when repertory movie houses were in full flower.

Watching him in the “making of” features on my Cabaret DVD, I was sorry to see that he seemed to have been through some really rough health problems.

I read he and his wife sold their home in Hollywood and moved to The Charter retirement community in Rochester Minn. run by the Mayo Clinic as it’s more convenient for him to get ongoing treatment for his rare disease.

I didn't get York's appeal at all when Cabaret came out. He was too sensitive, pretty and hairless for my dogmatic teenage taste in men. I've never liked "beautiful" men, but at least today I see why others thought York was hot shit.
In Cabaret, though, Helmut Griem was so blindingly gorgeous - and much more virile -that there wasn't room for another man in the movie. I still think he was one of the handsomest, sexiest men ever.
