Saw him on Broadway when he replaced Richard Gere in Bent. He was good but the play closed one month after he took over.

I really liked him in Romeo & Juliet when I was 15 - however Leonard Whiting's butt cast a shadow over all of the other guys in the movie - so to speak.

York played Abby's first love on Knots Landing. Allegedly thought he was too big of a star to be on the American telly, particularly on a tawdry nighttime soap.

I don't care if it's true. Even if he'd only done Cabaret, he'd still have my heart.

He made the talk show rounds maybe 10 or 12 years ago (longer?) publicizing a Cabaret anniversary screening and looked like he was knocking on deaths door. Glad he's still with us.

Watching him in the “making of” features on my Cabaret DVD, I was sorry to see that he seemed to have been through some really rough health problems.

I read he and his wife sold their home in Hollywood and moved to The Charter retirement community in Rochester Minn. run by the Mayo Clinic as it’s more convenient for him to get ongoing treatment for his rare disease.

I didn't get York's appeal at all when Cabaret came out. He was too sensitive, pretty and hairless for my dogmatic teenage taste in men. I've never liked "beautiful" men, but at least today I see why others thought York was hot shit.

In Cabaret, though, Helmut Griem was so blindingly gorgeous - and much more virile -that there wasn't room for another man in the movie. I still think he was one of the handsomest, sexiest men ever.
