Why Can't the Brighter Half of the Country convince the Dumber Half of the Country that Dump's Deranged?

Really, WHY? All politics is propaganda. And Dump is winning that contest?

What's really going on when logic and sensibility loses out.

F*ck off if you can't handle yet another Dump thread. We need to find an answer.

by Anonymousreply 149February 14, 2024 5:21 AM

At this point they are being stubborn and won't back down and admit they were wrong. Like their orange idol they double down.

by Anonymousreply 1February 11, 2024 10:17 PM

My two cents: a lot of the people who are being platformed by the media to do this are lecturing or attempting to debate them, instead of trying to develop a rapport where valid concerns can be shared and might be listened to; some of the people talking at them tend to come across as condescending or smug and no one is persuaded into anything by that type of person; and they also have a habit of piling 123,444 other issues on when it should be just one, simple theme: for the love of everything, Trump is evil.

by Anonymousreply 3February 11, 2024 10:37 PM

Because there’s a part of our country that wants a Putin-like President.

They want him to strong-arm black/brown persons and immigrants into submission.

They want him to punish the libtards, kill homeless and put women in their place.

Sad but true.

by Anonymousreply 4February 11, 2024 10:41 PM

Make sure they know how wrong they are so call them out when you can loud and often , call them names, call them stupid, and call those that disagree with you Nazis. And make sure they know your side hopes they all die.

This is exactly how you get the opposition to see your side as better and to consider joining with you.

But it’s important to be as nasty as you can

It’s right out of Chapter One of how to negotiate successfully and have people join with you for dummies.

by Anonymousreply 5February 11, 2024 10:42 PM

Perhaps step outside of your bubble and go explore, OP. Many people don’t like him but hate the left. He’s politically incorrect and they find that refreshing in a politician.

by Anonymousreply 6February 11, 2024 10:44 PM

For many of them it’s a matter of faith.

by Anonymousreply 7February 11, 2024 10:45 PM

They're not half the country. They are are a turd of a third of the population and they hate Americas and American democracy.

It is not our place to convince anyone of the very obvious.

Their candidate had no previous experience in politics (or the military) when he was placed in office in 2016, being famous for being rich playboy doesn't count as experience.

This unsuitable candidate didn't belong on stage with a candidate of Hilary Clinton's experience.

The question is why was he allowed to get that far.

When he was allowed to debate Clinton, it was game over Team USA.

President Biden has performed in his capacity as POTUS in the highest caliber in the most volatile of times, he is still being disrespected by the same individuals directly and indirectly responsible for Trump.

President Biden is being demanded to step aside for a more "youthful" candidate.

Those demanding President Biden resign would never demand Trump, who is the same age as President Biden, to leave the arena.

President Biden offered a speech on the soul of America and it was not aired on CBS, ABC or NBC.

by Anonymousreply 8February 11, 2024 10:46 PM

The smarter half of the country is who they hate. Trump feeds that.

by Anonymousreply 9February 11, 2024 10:46 PM

You breached the Nation's capitol, ambushed, assaulted and killed cops. You smeared your feces on the floor and walls of the capitol just because you didn't accept the election results of 2020.

You have no right to ask other people to behave with respect to you.

by Anonymousreply 10February 11, 2024 10:50 PM

The media is not asking candidate Trump for the binder of classified data regarding election interference in 2016.

They're not asking candidate Trump why he called around looking for 11 thousand votes on election night in 2020.

They are asking a sitting President, who has performed his duties with dignity and is moving this country forward from the shameless spectacle of his predecessor to resign due to this President's age.

The media is not asking his predecessor, who is the same age as President Biden, who fomented an act of terrorism against this country to remove himself from the running.

There is no hope this thread is proof the divide is far to large

you will have to lean how to crush them, hope they don’t find a way to crush your side, learn to compromise, or learn to live with ongoing dysfunction and hope they don’t find a way to crush you while you do. And we all know compromise is off the table.

They are just as mean and nasty but more driven to do what ever it takes. In the long run you are screwed. In the long run and that could be years.

Enjoy those years while they last

by Anonymousreply 12February 11, 2024 11:13 PM

I thought you people don't negotiate with terrorists.

You want the rest of us who have been held hostage by your violence to forget all about J6 , turn the other cheek and accept more of your abuse.

In fact that’s exactly what you’re asking.

But American democracy? You have no understanding or respect for the stuff.

by Anonymousreply 26February 11, 2024 11:36 PM

OH look another Trump thread.

by Anonymousreply 27February 11, 2024 11:36 PM

This is the result of reality TV. We have raised a generation of people who crave trash. Trump is their leader. He speaks directly to them without being one of them. He heats KFC and McDonald's, calls people names and confirms the conspiracy theories they all read on Facebook, He confirms their fears. Illegals are taking their jobs, The democrats want to take away their guns, Non-white people will take away all of their rights and they will become second-class citizens. Never mind that they cannot point to one thing he has done to help them. The same people who worship mega pastors who have millions while their congregation is poor.

by Anonymousreply 28February 11, 2024 11:36 PM

[quote]The bigger question is that given the threat that Trump represents to our nation, why can’t someone eliminate him?

No. No. No.

His martyrdom would create chaos and likely lead to a worse outcome.

Have we learned nothing in the past few decades regarding the dangers of religious fervor and zealotry?

by Anonymousreply 34February 12, 2024 12:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 35February 12, 2024 1:02 AM

That third of the country is also deranged, they are afraid of the black and brown and gay coming for them. This time it WAS Obama that did it, he scared the crap out of them, black man in charge is frightening, either the rest of the people kill them all or we suffer under them until they all die off, and they seem to live forever.

by Anonymousreply 38February 12, 2024 1:21 AM

You won't convince them. They are lost and have decided that "owning the libs" and their various isms and phobias are more important than a leader who truly cares about their well-being.

by Anonymousreply 39February 12, 2024 1:25 AM

[quote] Why Can't the Brighter Half of the Country convince the Dumber Half of the Country that Dump's Deranged?

Because nobody talks with the other side anymore. In order to improve things you would have to talk to Trumpists and genuinely ask them what they want. Not sure they know what they really want. But do people actually even start to make an effort to wonder what the other side wants? I don't think we are there yet. So far, people are happy to just shun and exclude the 'other side'.

by Anonymousreply 40February 12, 2024 1:27 AM

by Anonymousreply 44February 12, 2024 2:48 AM

OP, it's the same reason that the brighter half of the country can't convince the dumber half of the country that God is imaginary.

The MAGATs have decided to believe in Trump the way they believe in God. Intelligence and education can get no foothold against blind faith.

The Myers-Briggs type I fear most is the strongly FJ. It basically means, "I feel strongly this is right and nothing will change my decision." You can't make them see that a strong feeling is not a decision.

by Anonymousreply 45February 12, 2024 4:27 AM

You don't actually stir shots. You stir cocktails. Other than that, r44, I don't get your other points either. You don't think that you should engage with your opponent, the other side? How do YOU resolve problems with other people?

by Anonymousreply 46February 12, 2024 5:05 AM

mass stupidity in a culture of narcissism - people aren't open to information because they feel personally attacked by it. they think the world works like a simple fable or popcorn flick.

by Anonymousreply 47February 12, 2024 5:18 AM

No, r2. No. MAGAts are willfully ignorant. They all have cellphones, aka, access to knowledge, history, current events, the heliocentric reality, etc.

About why they should have graduated from high school.

I'm sick and beyond tired of your ilk's admonishing those of us who make cogent arguments replete with facts and figures, to "understand" the grievances of a class of people who cannot be persuaded to vote in their own interests EVEN AFTER becoming aware of the reasons, because their OVERRIDING value---more than self-preservation, MORE THAN JOBS---is HATRED:

Of Blacks, migrants, women (yes, MAGAt women can hate other women), Democrats, China, NATO, the homeless, public schools, books, social programs because MAGAts are too stupid to realize how they benefit (including free Covid-19 vaccinations), and anything and anyone whom Trump hates.

by Anonymousreply 48February 12, 2024 5:30 AM

R48 the Democrats risk losing to Trump again because stupid people like you insist on shoving Joe Biden down our throat

The only reason Democrats are "shoving Biden down our throats" is that they don't have anyone else. Lack of succession planning is a serious accusation that can be thrown at them. Clearly none of them watched Brian Cox's show.

R53, If all Trump wanted to do was host and lark around on SNL, who would GAF? But noooo; he wants to rule over us (not govern, mind you).

Because "we" aren't ignorant banjo-players, we hate every single damn thing Trump has imposed or wants to impose, his criminality, his treason, his vulgarity, his psychopathy, his incompetence, his admiration for dictators, his misogyny, etc.

"[T]hey hate Dems" because "they" somehow believe that policies that promote equality under the law, that make up our "social safety net," are "Socialism" or maybe "Communism," their not knowing what those terms mean.

by Anonymousreply 55February 12, 2024 8:07 AM

But ‘char an ignorant banjo player, Blanche, ‘tchar!

You are told repeatedly why Biden should not run for reelection but you don’t accept it! People tell you tgey don’t want to be “ruled” over by such an old man, but you discount them!

You are the Democrats’ Deplorables!

Stop complaining! You are as much as the enemy as the Deplorables are! And you will never accept it! When Biden steps down, you will announce you are voting for a third party candidate or abstaining from the election.

by Anonymousreply 56February 12, 2024 1:14 PM

The problem is you can't engage in a debate with magats. If you try, they get enraged and go into attack mode. I've seen it happen. Anything less than complete worship of the fat, ugly turd is met with rage and anger.

by Anonymousreply 57February 12, 2024 1:34 PM

True, R57. There are lots of videos on YouTube that anyone can look up where journalists ask average Trump supporters various questions and they become unhinged very quickly.

by Anonymousreply 58February 12, 2024 1:38 PM

R57 that is how it is dealing with Biden supporters

by Anonymousreply 59February 12, 2024 1:38 PM

Curious R56. Why is Biden too old but Trump isn't? They are roughly the same age so why the focus on Biden's age? Is Biden showing signs of mental decline? Most likely but so is Trump and Trump's decline has been showing longer. The difference is Trump is a danger to America, Biden is not. Biden hasn't sold intel to our enemies and I'm convinced Trump will sell us to the highest bidder for power and a seat at Pootie's table.

by Anonymousreply 60February 12, 2024 1:39 PM

No, R59, it isn't.

by Anonymousreply 61February 12, 2024 1:40 PM

What is over the top funny about your comment is that you made it on the DL. The DL where any disagreement can be met with a block, a FF a call for others to block and FF. Opposing views are not tolerated by so fucking many here.

I have never seen a forum so opposed to actual debate and sharing opposing views as the very liberal DL is.

by Anonymousreply 62February 12, 2024 1:40 PM

No one is attacking you here R59 despite the fact we know you are a troll. No self-respecting gay man would vote for the Lump and his policies.

by Anonymousreply 63February 12, 2024 1:47 PM

[quote]Curious [R56]. Why is Biden too old but Trump isn't?

R60 See, this is why you are a Democratic Deplorable. I did not say that. Logic would clearly follow that someone who believes Biden is too old to be President would also believe Trump is too old to be President. But you do not make that connection, because you are too stupid to realize how stupid you are.

You are as bad as the OG Deplorables, if not worse!

by Anonymousreply 64February 12, 2024 1:48 PM

I think the point is R64 is that people/media are focusing on Biden's age but I hear zip about Lump's. What's your explanation for that?

by Anonymousreply 65February 12, 2024 2:01 PM

Let's pretend we are planning a stay in Las Vegas.

YOU: "We are going to stay at the MGM Grand."

ME: "I don't think we should stay at the MGM Grand. It's an older property that hasn't been renovated recently. There are a lot of other flaws with it too."

YOU: "So you mean you want to stay at the LUXOR?"

ME: "No, I think there are a lot of better options. We can stay at the Bellagio, or Wynn, or Fontainebleau. There are a lot of other places we could stay. There's still enough time to change or travel plans."

YOU: "Why is it OK for the LUXOR to be old and unrenovated, but not the MGM Grand?"

ME: "I didn't say that. Obviously if I think the MGM Grand is too old, the Luxor is also too old."

YOU: "Does the MGM Grand have a terminal bedbug infestation problem like the Luxor? Does the MGM Grand have balconies you can easily fall off of?"

ME: "The Luxor is an awful place to stay! I don't want to stay there, or the MGM Grand! There are better options!"

YOU: "Luxor is a danger to America, the MGM Grand is not. The MGM Grand hasn't sold our comp points to our enemies and I'm convinced Luxor will sell us to the highest bidder for power and a seat at Marriot Bonvoy's table."

by Anonymousreply 66February 12, 2024 2:02 PM

My point stands R66. Biden is not a proven traitor despite any mental decline.

You're a troll, darlin'. Until you answer a question, bye.

by Anonymousreply 67February 12, 2024 2:05 PM

[quote]I think the point is [R64] is that people/media are focusing on Biden's age but I hear zip about Lump's. What's your explanation for that?

Well for one thing

The Republican Party was already smart enough to have a younger alternative in the wings (Haley) should Trump, who is clearly in declining physical condition, no longer be able to continue with the primary season. Joe Biden has not permitted Democrats to have that insurance. So if Biden is unable to continue in the election, we would not be able to quickly replace him as the de facto replacement, Vice President Harris, is even less popular than him.

by Anonymousreply 68February 12, 2024 2:05 PM

See this is why R67 is a Deplorable. Look at how his logic works. "If you don't agree with me, you are a traitor or a troll."

Everything they accuse the Deploreables of being, they are guilty of themselves. Standard, day one lesson one psychological projection.

by Anonymousreply 69February 12, 2024 2:07 PM

You can’t reason someone out of something they weren’t reasoned into.

by Anonymousreply 70February 12, 2024 2:09 PM

Zzzzz.....R69 and you still haven't answered a simple question. The fact is Trump IS a traitor. Jan 6 ring any bells? The attempt to overthrow an election is as un-American as you can get.

by Anonymousreply 71February 12, 2024 2:09 PM

R71 I could tell you that Trump is a terrible traitor, unfit to be President and needs to be sent to Bellevue all day. But that's not what you want to hear. You want to hear only one thing: "We must re-elect Joe Biden." You will never accept anything short of that, because, like I said, you are a Deploreable.

by Anonymousreply 72February 12, 2024 2:13 PM

Confirmation bias is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms or supports one's prior beliefs or values. People display this bias when they select information that supports their views, ignoring contrary information, or when they interpret ambiguous evidence as supporting their existing attitudes. The effect is strongest for desired outcomes, for emotionally charged issues, and for deeply entrenched beliefs. Confirmation bias is insuperable for most people, but they can manage it, for example, by education and training in critical thinking skills.

by Anonymousreply 73February 12, 2024 2:17 PM

At this point it's anyone but Dump. Dump has no core beliefs except himself and money. He's the guy who would pick up a child and use it as a shield. Completely amoral, criminally stupid and a toxic narcissist. I think Fat Kim has more morals than Dump. He, at least, actually shed tears over his people's plight.

by Anonymousreply 74February 12, 2024 2:21 PM

Let me just add

The Democrats took advantage of a lot of paranoid fear mongering during the Trump years

This type of paranoid fear mongering, which MAGA is also guilty of, was going to attract a lot of autistic people

Now there are two types of high functioning autistic people: those who have always felt like outsiders, like myself, that pride themselves on nonconformity and independent thinking; and then there are autistic people that are horrified at being outsiders, so they join cults. Cults have among the highest rates of recruitment from people on the autism spectrum.

Now, if you look at the obsessive poster above, you can see some of the trademarks of autistic thinking. For example, when trying to have a conversation, they keep reverting to some basic tenets. A question about Biden's age is always answered with a reversion to Russia, or January 6. This is an example of looping thought. The brain gets kind of stuck in a circuitous train of thinking which it is unable to escape from. For example:

ME: "A b c d e f g..."

YOU: "H i ab b c d a b c d."

ME: "...h i j k l m n o p."

YOU: "A b c h i j k a b c a b c h i j a b c a b c a b c."

Looping thought.

by Anonymousreply 75February 12, 2024 2:28 PM

Gawd, there are some deranged gays here shilling for Trump and pretending to be reasonable.

The Dem office holders are there because PEOPLE VOTED FOR THEM. No candidate is ever "shoved down our throats" because there are always others to vote for. That non-observation is unique to NON-VOTERS who want compelling office holders, but never get in the game and actually vote, because it is easier and less stressful for them to just sit on the sidelines and bitch!

by Anonymousreply 76February 12, 2024 3:03 PM

Most of Trump’s supporters come out of the evangelical communities. These are people who believe the Bible is literal truth and that fossils and geology are traps laid by the devil. They come from a world where religion is entrepreneurial and preachers craft their messages to put butts in the pews and dollars in the coffers. They are used to people in authority telling them what they want to hear and imbuing those messages with religious significance. They are distrustful of science and critical reasoning.

There is no way to convince these people of anything they don’t WANT to believe.

by Anonymousreply 77February 12, 2024 3:04 PM

I was talking with a lady I've known for awhile last night at the superbowl party I went to and we were discussing Trump. She said she loved Trump but could not articulate why but said she didn't believe Trump said what he did about NATO. They live in a bubble and any bad is automatically not true. She did say he needs to keep his mouth shut and think first though. This lady watches too much reality TV, morning "news" shows and doesn't read, not well-educated and she's hard-core catholic.

by Anonymousreply 78February 12, 2024 3:20 PM

No, the media industrial complex wants entertainment. Biden nor Trump are not entertaining. Trump WAS entertaining, but now is a repeat. Both are repeats for the oldest demographic, repeats of Blue Bloods and NCIS. The media wants White Lotus and Stranger Things.

[quote]Confirmation bias...confirms or supports one's prior beliefs or values.

Even allowing for CB, Trump ups said confirmation regularly. Of course he does it to outrage, but he also believes it. CB has its merits when considering a would-be 'President' encouraging Russia's insane expansionist aggression. That cannot and should not be normalised in any way. Nine more months of this grotesquerie to go. The huge charge-sheet against Trump must be repeated by the responsible and sane relentlessly. That is my bias, confirmed.

by Anonymousreply 90February 12, 2024 7:46 PM

R89 Biden has been President for the last three years and it hasn't killed him. You think he's incapable of flying to Milwaukee and giving a few speeches? I'll never understand the "Biden is too old crowd" because he's had the job for three years already. He's a known quantity. You may not like him but he's still showing up and doing the job. The right is focusing on his age because they have nothing else.

by Anonymousreply 91February 12, 2024 7:53 PM

Oh. It's so nice magats are genuinely concerned for the well-being of President Biden and just want him off the ballot for the sake of his health!

by Anonymousreply 92February 12, 2024 11:50 PM

After permitting your political party to be destroyed by maga, you don't have the right to try to reach into the Democratic party and dictate which candidate is placed on the ballot.

STHU, R56. I vote straight Democratic, regardless of candidate, and have since the election on my 19th birthday in 1968.

If you think that 9 months out a declination by Biden and a declaration by... whom? Gavin? Kamala?---would result in a Democratic Presidential victory, you are, I'm tempted to say, certifiable. And so would be ANY politician who agrees with you.

But because I'm a patriot: If your hoped-for scenario comes to be, and the Democrats do win the Presidency with Someone Not-Joe, I'll eat my crow fricaseed, and gladly.

Whatever it takes.

That old saying "it's the economy stupid" (plus the border chaos) seems to be the reason.

Every time I go to the supermarket and my bill is much higher than I expected I shudder and think how many people this is turning towards Trump.

by Anonymousreply 100February 13, 2024 5:08 AM

All it would take to defeat trump is a charismatic good looking plain spoken. But smart youngish man who was in control of his temper and women wanted to fuck. It's wild that there's no one around who fits the bill.

by Anonymousreply 101February 13, 2024 5:25 AM

There's no one around to fit the bill because they get assassinated, either literally or figuratively through constant lies, obfuscations, and both-siderism run amok.

And try just bringing up any of who should be our rising stars here, and watch the daggers come out.

by Anonymousreply 102February 13, 2024 5:40 AM

[quote]Because nobody talks with the other side anymore. In order to improve things you would have to talk to Trumpists and genuinely ask them what they want. Not sure they know what they really want. But do people actually even start to make an effort to wonder what the other side wants? I don't think we are there yet...

The New York Times constantly sends reporters out to rural Trump country to ask them what they want, and they write these annoying, condescending think pieces about the great MAGAt vs. rational people divide. With regularity, so much so that the NYT Pitchbot has turned it into a meme.

We have done nothing but cater to "the other side" for my living memory of 59 years. We made sure they had access to everything modern life offers, from electricity in the early 1900s to telephone and eventually internet connections at the same prices as city dwellers pay despite the cost of production being off the charts, to quality public education, funding of rural hospitals up to and including in Obamacare... the list goes on and on. The problem is they won't say what they want because they know what they want is immoral, disgusting, racist and simply not acceptable: white supremacy in everything.

They have glommed on to Trump because he's their id; he'll say out loud the things they feel. And it is ugly.

by Anonymousreply 103February 13, 2024 5:54 AM

Notice they are no longer covering Trump every day because he loses ground when they do. Now they are following Biden's every movement to look for signs of age.

They used to give Trump daily free publicity but because he is deranged and ill they no longer do.

by Anonymousreply 104February 13, 2024 8:54 AM

R104 Notice?

Links to what ever network you claim is no longer covering Trump and is now following Joe 24/7 looking for signs of age.

Some here , not me of course, might think you are not being accurate and just making up shit to make a post.

by Anonymousreply 105February 13, 2024 11:44 AM

Richard Nixon's long reach: We are living the extreme but foreseen results of his "Southern Strategy." THIS is what Trump voters want.

Sure, "It's the economy, Stupid," but ask any of them exactly how they think Trump might lower their grocery bills, or what he has SAID about same [Spoiler Alert: Trump hasn't.], and you won't hear any logical response. You more likely will hear some racist xenophobic nonsense about "the border."

Trump will "fix things." Of course, he wasn't able to do anything beneficial from January 2017 to January 2021, but who even cares?

Where is his record being analyzed in the media, notably his handling of Covid-19 (remember when Jared told the nation that the Federal stockpile of hospital equipment "belongs to us, not the states," as though there were some other place the equipment should go. Oh, wait; there WAS. The US shipped supplies to CHINA!), when Trump’s initial and spontaneous thought was to "punish" NY and NJ for being Blue states.

Technically you are talking about the Never Trumpers, and we ended up with Joe Biden because of them. Joe Biden was seen as sufficiently inoffensive to the Never Trumpers.

Let’s dump him? I agree!

by Anonymousreply 109February 13, 2024 12:30 PM

Don’t blame the South for Trump, asshole. Trump is a New Yorker through and through. The Midwest and Pennsylvania made Trump President, but of course you’re probably from there and can’t look down on your people.

Trump was made by the decision of President Clinton to sign the North American Free Trade Agreement, which union workers in the Midwest and Pennsylvania felt was a betrayal of the fundamental compact between the Democratic Party and organized labor. Ergo, they left us.

by Anonymousreply 110February 13, 2024 12:35 PM

The lack of rising stars in the Democratic Party is primarily due to people like Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton who refused to cede the spotlight. The Democratic Party cannot have these people in power any more.

by Anonymousreply 111February 13, 2024 12:41 PM

Not true. Amy klobuchar and Pete buttigieg ran for president and with only limited success were deemed unfit. People could rally behind Kamala harris yet don’t. None of these notable democrats are that old

by Anonymousreply 112February 13, 2024 12:48 PM

Pete Buttigeig was a horrible choice for a Presidential candidate and he still came in second in New Hampshire. People want new faces. Biden came fifth.

by Anonymousreply 113February 13, 2024 12:51 PM

I know that they are unreachable, but will they be truly happy under a quasi-dictatorship if all the things that the powers that be behind Trump get what they want (it’s called project 2025)? This includes immediate deployment of the military for domestic law enforcement, dismantling the FBI, allowing a president to go after his political enemies without just cause and, the big one - outlawing pornography. Do they not think things can be directed against themselves, not just those they hate, under such a system? Nevermind,

It’s a shame all the focus now is on Biden this or Biden that. The alternative is unbelievably horrific, in my opinion, and it will not be fixable through future elections.

by Anonymousreply 114February 13, 2024 12:59 PM

If you want the spotlight stand up like an adult and take it. Blaming old people for not giving up and stepping aside is the cry of the weak. It’s what children say when they want to blame their shortcomings on parents or old people.

I think the Dems have a lot of stars in waiting. The key word being——waiting.

by Anonymousreply 115February 13, 2024 1:11 PM

No r115. Biden’s nomination happened because an old people (James Clyborn) conspired to keep each other in power.

Gavin Newsom is trying very hard to push Joe Biden out right now. What do you want him to do, push him down a flight of stairs?

by Anonymousreply 117February 13, 2024 1:17 PM

If Gavin wants to run this time he should stand up and say that the Dems need a choice. Then he should fucking run.

Haley had the balls to say this to the GOP—-we need a choice.

Personally I am for Joe but don’t blame others fear or weakness to do something on him.

First, I want to thank R31 for posting that link. It's a very interesting article and answers a lot of questions.

Secondly, I somewhat resent the implication that those of us in "the brighter half" haven't attempted to persuade "the dumber half." I certainly have, even back before Trump was president.

Over the years, it's impossible to catalog the abuse I received from people I talked to about politics. The conversations generally start with, "So, what do you do?" And I would reply, "I teach at X College." And of course, the next question was, "What do you teach?"

And perhaps I should have lied, but not only do I hate to lie (which is why I've been out since 1972), but I'm very bad at it. So I would answer with the truth: American Government and/or Political Science (depending on the college).

You would be amazed with the reactions I've had to that statement -- or maybe not. But I've been fielding them since 2004, when I first started teaching here in FL. They're mostly along the lines of "just because you went to college doesn't mean you know more than me!" So when I reply, I have a series of lines I use on people depending on the person, circumstances, and attitude. Not that any of them do any good.

My most common rejoinder is, "So, how many justices are on the Supreme Court?" I would guess that fewer than one out of 25+ people I've asked actually knew. But that doesn't matter -- they still think they know more about politics than I do. Even a surgeon checking my wound didn't know! And yes, he was a native-born American. Naturalized citizens know much more about our government than native-born Americans do, because they have to pass the citizenship test to become a U.S. citizen.

The common thread is the complete ignorance of most Americans, even those who are supposedly well-educated, about the way the government actually works.

I have tried to talk rationally to many, many Deplorables about Trump -- because, with a few notable exceptions, I'm surrounded by them. But as was stated above, you can't actually have a conversation with them. They are spoiling for a fight, and will tell me I'm ignorant (in spite of my degrees -- and sometimes because of them) right to my face (and mind you, some of these people are functionally illiterate). Two different black men at two different times called me a racist because (supposedly) I assumed they were Democrats. Silly me! I thought they might be a little smarter than the crackers they're surrounded by.

So yes, some of us try. But it's a thankless task and convinces no one. And I've put myself in serious danger more than once, because most of these people carry guns at all times, and boy, do they have a temper!

Sorry -- I could go on and on about this. But I'm glad I have DL to rant to -- otherwise, I'd go bananas.

by Anonymousreply 121February 13, 2024 2:40 PM

"just because you went to college doesn't mean you know more than me!"

Because THEY KNOW the TRUTH about the "Deep State" and its funding from George Soros; about the international pedophile organization run by prominent Democrats, which ring Trump and Putin are working to reveal and destroy; about how Democrats want more illegal immigrants to bribe with free cellphones for their votes; about the Democrats' plans to forcibly confiscate people's guns and gas stoves; about how Democrats want to take the words "boy" and "girl" out of elementary school workbooks; etc.

There is no arguing with, persuading, or enlightening a Trump voter, because they ALREADY KNOW what's true and whom to trust! Why would they change their minds?
