Opening prayer at Trump rally today: “We thank you for a man of God, Donald Trump, who stands with Israel. I ask this day God that you will be a wall of fire around him. Lord, I ask that you expose enemies and foes that seek to do secret things in secret places to thwart him.”
Sounds like an Obama do at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta

Nobody was called upon to worship Obama as a Messiah.

Actually, R2, a little bit. Proving Newton’s 3rd law as a political phenomenon.
Remember that nomination speech: “this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal ...” Trump and evangelicals are a batshit insane fun house reflection of this, but you can’t conveniently forget all the hopey changey stuff, to paraphrase that deep thinker Sarah Palin.

As I said in another post:
Trump has no qualms about playing into whatever the Christian Nationalists that make up the Republican base want. They want a Messiah? He’s happy to tell them he’s the Messiah. They are afraid of Muslims? He’ll tell them he’ll ban Muslims. They don’t like immigrants? He tells them he’ll round them up by force and send them “back where they came from.”
I don’t think of that as genius. It’s just a lust for power completely unconstrained by principals, law or even common sense. And sadly, it works
