Connelly's look actually made her Requiem For A Dream all the more effective, jarring and gut wrenching. Someone that looks like that lowering to the depths of ass to ass and portraying such deep sadness in the eyes was completely devastating. Really spoke to addiction well.

Catherine Zeta Jones is one of the most beautiful women who ever lived - but why hasn’t she been in a decent film in years? She isn’t a bad actress. The last movie I saw with her that I enjoyed was “The Terminal,” and I caught the ending of “Side Effects” which seemed decent enough. I always think of “Chicago” or “Mask of Zorro” when I hear her name.

I understand she stopped doing films for a while due to her bipolar disorder (which reminds me of her doppelgänger Vivien Leigh), as well as raising a family, but why has her material been so consistently underwhelming? You’d think Michael Douglas would help her find better work.

R110 I can chime in here. I worked on a not-so-great TV movie with her a few years ago, Cocaine Godmother (2017). She was nice, gave it her all each day, very pro on set. Had high hopes for it. She told the crew from the onset the project meant a lot to her. She’d been trying to make it for many, many years and felt the opportunists weren’t coming her way. When we finally started filming, maybe not coincidentally, there was interest by rival studios to produce their own projects about Griselda Blanco. One of them just came out, starring Sofia Vergara. Our movie had a writer from Blow and was directed by Del Toro’s DOP (who won an Oscar for Pan’s Labyrinth). Despite the talent… seemed difficult to get produced. I wonder if the production agreed to take less money to get it made to beat the other projects? If it were made today, I think it would have had more resources. An example of how they saved money, most of the sets were already built, reused and slightly redressed from the tv show UnReal. Almost wish some eagle-eyed viewer would do a side-by-side comparison. It was fun to work those days that had their Scarface moments though, drug smuggling and shootouts. Wish the final movie had been stronger.
