Dave Matthews? LOL
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 10, 2024 4:02 PM |
Cool but at least 1/2 aren't rock and roll
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 10, 2024 4:02 PM |
r3 That's who you single out to LOL?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 10, 2024 4:03 PM |
[quote]That's who you single out to LOL?
I know that they define "rock and roll" very loosely. It's pretty much just a list of popular artists whether they be rock, pop, R&B, or whatever. I just don't see how the Dave Matthews Band has had any kind of lasting influence or legacy to warrant being nominated.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 10, 2024 4:12 PM |
That’s one mixed bag!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 10, 2024 4:21 PM |
r6 I don't disagree with that, I just meant you didn't say the same about Mary J Blige, for example? Is she more of a lasting "rock and roller" than Dave Matthews? (admittedly, I can't remember the name of a Dave Matthews hit, nor one of Mary J Blige's)
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 10, 2024 4:23 PM |
Frampton is one of the nicest guys in the world, very humble and all about the music. He's been very sick. I hope he wins! And that Lou Gram is part of Foreigner's nomination, because HE made the band a STAH! And oh yeah hurrah CHEE!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 10, 2024 4:27 PM |
Cher, Dave Matthews, and Lenny Kravitz don’t belong on this list
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 10, 2024 4:28 PM |
If Dolly can make it, Cher can
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 10, 2024 4:43 PM |
She’ll need to turn back time to make it…
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 10, 2024 4:45 PM |
Cher absolutely belongs on the list. She released solo hit records even when she was still paired with Sonny in the '60's, and many more afterward. She should have been on the list a long, long time ago.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 10, 2024 4:49 PM |
r10, Lenny is more rock than any other of the black artists mentioned.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 10, 2024 4:50 PM |
Sinead O'Connor had one song that people remember. Sympathy nomination.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 10, 2024 4:53 PM |
Cher has sang plenty of pop songs that have a rock feel. I Found Someone. If I Could Turn Back Time. Bang Bang. We All Sleep Alone. Just Like Jesse James.
I hope she gets in. Would be great for the gays.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 10, 2024 5:15 PM |
Chee has the longest history of anyone on this list, and she’s more rock-and-roll than a number of them.
But hasn’t she publicly said she doesn’t give a fuck about it and won’t even show up?
This video is from almost sixty fucking years ago. Who else was wearing a flashy fur and hoop earrings while covering a classic amidst large farm animals - and is still a draw in 2024?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 10, 2024 5:16 PM |
I’d love an Oasis snub just to watch their mouths spew their usual shit.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 10, 2024 5:18 PM |
People who know music know Sinead is far more than one song.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 10, 2024 5:20 PM |
Cher will be there, I bet.

by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 10, 2024 6:47 PM |
After Dolly Parton was inducted (she tried to refuse it but they still gave it to her) anyone could be nominated . At this point it should be renamed Entertainment Hall of Fame. Cher will probably refuse it but they will award it to her anyway just like Dolly.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 10, 2024 7:02 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 10, 2024 7:12 PM |
I don’t like Lenny Kravitz’s music much.
But man, if Sheryl Crow is in, it’s hard to make an argument against him.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 10, 2024 7:20 PM |
Sade even has an album with “Rock” in the title. Ergo she is a rocker.
Even if it is a reference to a reggae sub-genre.
It contains one of her most underrated songs, Every Word.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 10, 2024 7:27 PM |
Oh please. You have no leg to stand on whining about soul and R&B nominees when fucking MADONNA is there, not to mention Dolly Parton after her woeful rock album last year.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 10, 2024 7:31 PM |
I was hoping Phil Collins would be nominated for his solo work. It would be a lovely fuck you to Jann Wenner.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 10, 2024 7:31 PM |
The organization should be renamed the Rock & Pop Hall of Fame.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 10, 2024 7:32 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 10, 2024 8:40 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 10, 2024 9:17 PM |
What happens to bands like New Order/Joy Division that almost made it a year ago? I still think it's crazy that The Cure and Depeche Mode are in there and New Order is not.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 10, 2024 11:21 PM |
If you're gonna put people like Sheryl Crow in, then Cyndi Lauper should have been inducted a decade ago.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 10, 2024 11:23 PM |
Will the Oasis induction be enough for a Gallagher brothers' reconciliation?
Also I kinda like Noel's bitchy attitude. He's also one of the few people in music industry who actually had the balls to trash Taylor Swift way before it became a trend.

by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 10, 2024 11:32 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 10, 2024 11:35 PM |
R8, you don't know any Mary J songs?!!! She's a legend
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 10, 2024 11:37 PM |
Frampton is well liked in the industry and has worked with a lot of people.
Frampton
Kool and The Gang
Foreigner
A Tribe Called Quest
Ozzy Osbourne
Sinead O’Connor
Cher
Dave Matthews band won the fan vote the last time they were nominated so they may slip in.

Mary J Blige famously sang the theme to The Young and the Restless.

by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 11, 2024 7:43 AM |

Sade should be denied induction just for using Interstate as the typeface on her album cover at R28.
One of the worst '90s-era crimes against design.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | February 12, 2024 4:01 AM |
That article at R73 mixes its reasons for the "snubs." The B52s and Barry White 100% deserve to already be there. I'm not a fan of the Pixies but I can also understand and support their inclusion, but most of the rest of those choices are ridiculous.
Labelle was pretty much a one hit wonder. If you want to induct Patti LaBelle, then I get that, but Labelle did nothing to warrant induction. Same with The Commodores. If you've already inducted Lionel Richie, you're covered. He was the Commodores. INXS were a band with a few sort of catchy hits that did nothing to further music and they basically lasted 8 years. Outkast is a ridiculous choice (and the writer is being a bit disingenuous saying that album went diamond. It was a double album and the RIAA has lways counted sales of double albums twice, for some inexplicable reason.) Outkast was a flash in the pan. Same with Smashing Pumpkins. Influential? No. Had a few hits for a few years? Yeah, so what.
What the hall needs to get back to is honoring artists who actually made a difference, or who were so popular for such a long time, that they became legendary or iconic, or had a talent that was so great, it's undeniable. I think on the basis of those criteria, you could pick up the hall, shake it out, and lose a lot of prior inductees. And should.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | February 12, 2024 4:01 AM |
Sade should be in for reasons I'm not sure you could induct anyone else. Having a nearly 40 year career where you release an album when you feel like it, you do nearly zero press for it, and it's still a hit. Why? Because the music is good. THAT is longevity. And no one in this business has that the way she does. She's a recluse who still sells music. She would be my first vote this year.

by Anonymous | reply 87 | February 12, 2024 6:09 AM |

Paul Revere & The Raiders were a popular garage rock band that were very influential for their 1960s era. They had 15 top 40 hits, 4 gold albums and deserve to be in the RRHOF more than any of the nominees. Jann Wenner had set up arbitrary rules as to who can get nominated and who can't. He lumped them together with The Monkees because they appeared regularly on the TV show Where The Action Is, and their first album had session men instead of the band, even though they were very competent musicians and toured constantly.

New Order singlehandedly funded a major record label from the ashes of Joy Division and, as a result, much of the "Madchester" music scene through the mid-90's. Hugely influential and documented in the film 24 Hour Party People and much, much more.

Two voters explain their choices.
[quote]Voter 1: Foreigner is the epitome of “anonymous classic rock.” They’ve been touring over the past few years without any original members and it doesn’t seem that anyone minds. It’s a brand, not a band. The brand gets a boost by being in the Rock Hall. Hooray, I guess.
About Lenny Kravitz:
[quote]Voter 2: A hard no. Another member of the B-team. He’s a cool guy who has some cool songs. I don’t see the influence. He seems more of a symbol of rock rather than something really new. How can you put Lenny Kravitz and Kool & the Gang next to each other? It’s a joke.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | March 6, 2024 1:49 AM |
R125 glad they’re ignoring Foreigner and Kravitz, but it’s weird that they’re so pro hip-hop and R&B but see neo-soul, funk and pop as antithetical to rock. (Yes! Funk!)
It’s a bit silly at this point.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | March 6, 2024 7:30 AM |
They need to rebrand the stupid ROCK and ROLL part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and call it Popular Music Hall of Fame. Most of the inductees over the last 15-20 years are not rock and roll or are bottom of the barrel rock and roll adjacent.
